Homelessness is a terrible tragedy and it tends to affect the most vulnerable members of society: minorities, the very young and the very old, those who are the product of generational poverty and to a lesser extent, those who are dealing with psychological issues. The way in which these human beings are treated is beyond horrifying and we ought to remember that having a home is a BASIC HUMAN RIGHT. It's downright criminal that governments are not taking any steps to protect these people and re-integrate them into wider society, but waste billions on wasteful programs that are deliberately designed to not solve anything at all, but feeds a network of NGOs that serve very specific political purposes - as always, the institutions are headed by immoral, depraved psychopaths.

What we need is to re-distribute wealth and make it illegal for anyone to accumulate more than certain amounts, especially because billionaires build their fortunes on corporate welfare from the state, which is tantamount to extreme corruption. Regarding this poor child, it's incredibly shameful, sad and painful that he and all other homeless people are in such an awful situation in what is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, which devotes a scandalously high percentage of its budget to feed the Military Industrial Complex that heads what is, in reality, nothing more than a repugnant cabal of death mongers.

Sad. Poor guy can't stand still. He's itching everywhere and needs a bath real bad. How he got money for that tattoo baffles me. He most certainly needs some help from a care agency or family which there seems not to be any that are willing to step in.

Capitalism probably helps its adherents rationalize culling parts of the population for the sake of profit. Other things that are regularly rationalized include war profiteering, birthing children that the parent can't support, and eagerly giving money to large corporations; so this tracks. Governmental leaders don't even think about issues until it affects their election chances and this year, nobody gives two shits about homeless people. As I could be homeless in a few years, related subreddits like r/vandwelling, r/urbancarliving, r/almosthomeless, & r/homeless are a great way to understand people's current process, compare the different situations in different cities/regions, and plan for yourself at a high level. Also, the r/vagabond sub is more of an adventuresome vibe...if that's your thing.

Let's make sure we polarize every issue so that a way out can't be found.

It can be done, R17. This child is on drugs because of his desperate situation - the trauma of being homeless is magnified by constant isolation broken by mostly negative interactions with other people, and the uncertainty of not knowing when the next act of aggression will com from, or whether he will be able to eat at all. Drugs and alcohol protect against the cold, help to make fear less painful and above all, suppress the feeling of hunger.

The model that Finland has implemented has been EXTREMELY successful and helped to rapidly solve homelessness: provide people with a home, therapy and training, and make them get a job during training while they get constant support from trained professionals. This is MUCH cheaper and effective than hoping that homeless people will go somewhere else, or simply die.

And R19, you're wrong. This is a child in a terrible situation and I am not a fucking creep. If it were an unattractive 40-year-old men, I would be just as saddened and outraged by this egregious injustice. In short: not everybody is like you, sweetie.
