And will there ever be another non-soul, non-rap and non-hip-hop Super Bowl halftime show as long as he’s in charge? I doubt we’ll be seeing any white headliners anytime soon
Why was Jay-Z given the power to select the Super Bowl entertainment

Is he also responsible for the singing of the " Black National Anthem" ? I thought the country only had one national anthem. Are white people allowed to kneel in protest?

So the owners wouldn’t have to sign Colin Kaepernick to any team.

The half-time show used to be a thing people watched. Now, no one does mainly because no one knows who the performers are. Bob and Betty Lou Boring in Flyoverland don't listen to hip hop and rap. Now, half-time is bathroom and smoke breaks. I can't remember a party where anyone watched it and if they do its to say "wtf is that" and criticize.

Only enlightened, sophisticated citizens of the coasts love hip hop and rap, the music of choice amongst the sophisticates. I'm sure the parties in Malibu and The Hamptons stopped cold to let the partygoers crowd around the television to enjoy Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg. Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar.

So, I guess the people of Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago, Birmingham, and St. Louis have no idea who the rappers and hip hoppers are, R3?

Build your own Roc Nation and book your own guests. Until then STFU.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 10, 2024 3:32 PM |
Who the fuck wants to watch anyway?

The show should be someone everyone likes and music that has a crossover appeal. Actually, better yet, do away with it.

[quote]... don't listen to hip hop and rap.
It's boring, tedious, repetitive, old and performed by no-talents.

The half-time performer is USHER, an R&B superstar singer who has been recording for nearly 30 years. Unless Bob and Betty Lou are 85 or over they likely know Usher and his hit music from 25 years ago. But if they are 85 and over remind them that Perry Como is dead.

Exactly, R2.

R10, I'm 60 and not flyover and don't have a clue what he sings. The name is familiar but if you don't listen to the genre then, no, no one will know. I don't know what Como sang either.

Usher was huge in the early 00s. As big as anyone. But he hasn't been relevant in a long time. He's a bit of an odd choice in 2024.
I wonder if the big time rising pop stars like Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, etc., are not being asked or just don't want to do it? They seem the exact right choice as they'd get younger viewers (presumably).
Now that I think about it, Taylor has never done it. Which is somewhat shocking. I assume even Jay Z would have to let her perform if she wanted?

Swift is on a list of those who have turned it down.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 10, 2024 4:41 PM |
Pssst - they only get performers on their way down

They basically paid him to tell Black people to stop kneeling for the anthem.

This song has almost 1 billion views just on YouTube...

R12, do you know the music of Justin Timberlake? Or Justin Bieber?

Other than Prince- who performed “Purple Rain” in a torrential downpour with a smile on his face-who has truly put on an amazing halftime show?

Up With People, R19.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 10, 2024 11:04 PM |
I know the names but, shit, no. Not my genre.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 10, 2024 11:29 PM |
R19, Bruno Mars was damned good, too. I think Prince was the best, but Bruno was a close second.

Bruno, Beyonce and Chris MArtin from Coldplay did ahalf time show together. It was lit!

Madonna is still the queen of the SB Halftime...until somebody does it better. That was a cool spectacle what she did.

I was watching the commercial with the little African boy running with a football, and the NFL talking about how they are bringing football all over the world and recruiting "to help young boys realize their football dreams..." Which is bullshit. Football ought to banned and recruiting internationally is just trying to increase the audience for a dying sport. Soccer is ascendant. Fuck Football.

A dying sport…?
