So, I’ve heard that in the olden days of DL…

…there was a separate section for politics.

That must have been nice.

The blog era made for a LOT of political links.

Not just "politics." ... Ye Olde Datalounge was far better because it had topics categorized by subject matter, thereby you could avoid things you had no interest in altogether. None of this endless scrolling through a ton of crap just to get to something that might interest you.

The Datalounge officially condoles your thumbs.

Politics and Gossip were two of several categories. IIRC, there was a separate forum for Lesbian issues, though there was no forced gender segregation.

Yes, it was refreshing not having to interact with those who were less serious about politics, LGB issues and life in general.

R3, in the olden days, people were using all ten fingers on a computer keyboard, not squinting at a tiny screen they carried with them everywhere so they could obsessively follow and rant about their pet issues.

R4 ... and even more refreshing for the rest of us to be free of the cranks, grinds, fanatics and humorless obsessives.

[quote] rant about their pet issues.

Is it a rescue issue?

In my life, something major changed about 10 years ago. Before then, I had very good friends on the left and right and it was pretty easy to push politics aside while maintaining a real relationship with these people. When TFG took over and fascism became mainstream, it caused a major shift in the way we interact with each other which made politics unavoidable. Almost like turning a switch, I couldn't stand to enjoy anything that was supported by or appealing to the fascists. The same goes for Datalounge.

It was around the turn of the century.

A glimpse of stocking was even looked on as something sholcking, OP.

Goddammit.
