Other topics for the "Feud" series
Someone here suggested Stevie Nicks vs. Lindsay Buckingham, but that will never happen while they're alive. Ryan Murphy already got in trouble for depicting Olivia de Havilland while she was still alive in "Bette vs. Joan": she lost her lawsuit, but i would bet he doesn't want to risk that again. So unfortunately there will likely not be a "Feud: The Women of 'The View' vs. Each Other," or "Feud: Sarah Jessica Parker vs. Kim Cattrall."
But what else could they do? He's said he doesn't just want to do Hollywood feuds, so he could do "Feud: Hamilton vs. Burr" (except people would expect the musical), or "Feud: Octavian vs. Antony and Cleopatra" (but that's also been done before). "Feud: Stalin vs. Trotsky"? That doesn't have much of a gay angle.

The way Ryan Murphy picks the subject matter for some of these things makes no sense. First, he wanted to do an American Crime Story season about Hurricane Katrina despite that not even being a crime. Then he starts another anthology on Netflix with Monster, which covers subject matter that just as easily could have been part of American Crime Story. Not only that, the second season of Monster is about the Menendez brothers, which was just covered in an NBC mini-series in 2017. He's also launching American Sports Story, the first season of which will focus on Aaron Hernandez, a subject that easily could have been covered by American Crime Story or Monster instead.

A few years ago, I was having dinner with one of Lupone's assistants (one of my best friends was in a relationship with him at the time). This was a few months before the pandemic broke. He was saying she was excited that 'Hollywood' was going to air soon, she was so proud of her work in the film, and she adored working with Murphy. I spoke up and suggested they do a "Feud' between Lupone and Webber. He and my friend looked at me and started laughing - and we were figuring who could play who (who would play Glenn Close ???).
A few months later, I get word from her assistant that he told her my idea and she loved it - presented it to Murphy. Murphy (supposedly) reached out to ALW, and ALW quickly disapproved of it...so it probably won't get made any time soon.

Ari Onassis vs. Stavros Niarchos.
The two men were huge lifelong rivals in the super-rich world of Greek shipping. Niarchos's third wife was shipping heiress Eugenia Livanos, and then after her mysterious death from a drug overdose, he married her sister who was Onassis's divorced first wife Tina Livanos (mostly just to spite Onassis). Then Tina also mysteriously died of a drug overdose in Niarchos's Paris mansion.
You could also bring in the Marquess of Blandford (Tina's second husband), Maria Callas, Jackie Kennedy, Lee Radziwill (again), Princess Rainier and Princess Grace, Pamela Churchill Hayward Harriman again (she also had an affair with Niarchos), and Onassis's children by Tina, Alexander and Christina. Although Gore Vidal vs. William F. Buckley is great, the Joan Rivers vs. Johnny Carson idea seems most likely for this series given the camp/gay/“fabulous” nature of the first two seasons thus far. R185 - OK, but wasn't much of this season's Feud already covered by the play TRU? I realize TRU was decades ago and only a fraction of people saw it compared to the Crown's viewership, but it's hardly virgin territory. Besides, as much as I enjoy Murphy's brand of shlock, it's not exactly in the same universe as The Crown. It's not even Gilded Age.

So far the Joan Rivers/Johnnie Carson idea sounds the most viable since they're both deceased. And I'm sure nothing would make Ryan Murphy happier than to see Sarah Paulson's take on Joan Rivers. God help us.

[quote] OK, but wasn't much of this season's Feud already covered by the play TRU? I realize TRU was decades ago and only a fraction of people saw it compared to the Crown's viewership, but
No "buts."
I doubt there are more than a few thousand people still alive who remember seeing "Tru" either in person in Manhattan or on PBS's "American Playhouse," both more than thirty years ago.
There are literally millions of people who saw "The Crown" within just the last few years cover the Charles and Diana relationship.
If you cannot see why that enormous difference would matter to Murphy and F/X , I cannot help you.

It surprises me people still keep suggesting living people as potential subjects for the series--that would never happen, unless the subjects were politicians or royals 9who are immensely public figures).
Famous singers and actors and artists and writers who are still alive would sue Ryan Murphy's ass off if he tried to make a "Feud" series about them.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | February 9, 2024 10:00 PM

The Thiel vs Gawker idea is a strong one, but I think it would be difficult to make Thiel interesting. He could come across as a quiet, dark force. But his character I fear would be very one dimensional.
All the drama would have to come from the Gawker side, which probably wouldn’t be difficult.

If Murphy wanted to revisit something from Bette and Joan he could do Hedda vs Louella. Judy Davis is already Hedda, so he'd just need to cast Louella. He could have Jessica back for a cameo or two, and mix in a few other figures of the day.
The mixing in of figures is what would make it fun.....Walter Winchell, maybe. Dorothy Kilgallen? Or are those people too NYC....maybe sticking to Hollywood society, a few closeted stars, a few sluts, you know, Ryan Murphy's noctural wet dreams.
