Taylor is so much more popular than Beyonce right now and it isn't even close. Midnights gets something like 9 million streams a day and it has 8 billion streams so far. Renaissance gets less than 2 million and less than 3 billion streams total. This, despite the fact that the media wouldn't shut the fuck up about Renaissance "bringing house music back" (it did no such thing) and hyping it like it was going to be the biggest album of all time.

Beyonce has a good voice when she isn't screaming her vocals. Taylor's voice is decent but in no way distinct

I agree that Beyonce is MUCH prettier and more talented than Taylor Grift. I also don't understand why Taylor insists on wearing that body suit in concerts. That stage costume is intended for performers who can dance and are in great physical shape, like Madonna and Beyonce.

Beyonce is a mediocre singer but an A-1 marketer, much like Madonna in her day.
She sang an a capella number on the Dreamgirls DVD and she was ... not good.

by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 6, 2024 8:49 PM |
R13, Beyhive stans act like house music was dead before Beyonce "brought it back to life". House music has been reimagined and reincarnated like 1000 times since the 80s, Beyonce wasn't doing anything unique with it.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 6, 2024 9:17 PM |
The Queen has so many upset and denying reality of contemporary pop music. Because some Avenue D artist is playing live on the Lowest East side or the kickbacks you go to, Tony G is spinning house music does not mean that house music was still mainstream.

Other people here know a billion times more about her than I do. What I’ve observed is, she can carry a tune but isn’t a super skilled or powerful singer. She crafts her music as she crafts her image — very carefully and with a lot of calculation. She has extremely talented people helping her project herself into the market.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 6, 2024 10:09 PM |
Beyonce is starting to look like Tina (although, her last 'refresh' was very good). Sorry OP, but Beyonce is entering the 'Las Vegas residency' years. She had a better run than almost anyone in the world, but her star is waning.
Taylor Swift is undeniably at her zenith and probably has at least a few more years as a mega-watt performer. She is also a mainstream-friendly songwriter, so her music will probably continue to chart even when she is no longer the hot thing.

Hence, no AotY.

And your one example of "only one sampling" is like the Monty Python "But there's not MUCH Spam!"
To reiterate from the other thread:

B is a good looking woman and has a decent voice. She is mostly a brand and product of her very clever husband. She is not a vocal artist in company with Ella, Billie, Judy, Barbra, or Aretha, never mind songwriter or musician. She is not a beauty or talented actress. She is a product. Her husband created her. And for my money, she does not have the social justice chops of her equally mediocre musically and vocally rival Taylor Swift. Swift is smart like B’s husband and a much better human being.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 7, 2024 3:08 AM |
I don't know why it's got to be a competition. Both of them have already won a trunk full of awards and are billionaires.
I don't understand why there's not more artists talked about. There certainly is a lot of musical talent out there but they never blow up enough without the pr machine marketing them.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 7, 2024 3:16 AM |

Howard Stern exposed Bey's lousy vocals when she appeared live on The Today Show, breathing (not singing) If I Were A Boy. It was painful. That was her REAL voice. She's in league with Linda McCartney and Britney Spears as a manufactured singer. Sad.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | February 7, 2024 1:10 PM |
B can sing better but that's not saying much. She's a great entertainer with a good voice. Her sister's instrument is far superior.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 7, 2024 1:39 PM |
It’s sort of like Aretha Franklin and Carole King. Just as Carole would never claim to be a singer like Aretha, I don’t think Taylor would ever claim to be as gifted a singer as Beyonce is.
Beyonce, however, is not a best-of-her-generation musical genius like Aretha was. What she is is a very good, if not quite excellent, singer who has consistently gotten better over the years due to her faultless work ethic and personal discipline (this is Beyonce’s real gift). She also has the benefit of very very beautiful, though she needs a team around her because her own instincts are very tacky pageant-girl-turned-minister’s wife.
Like Beyonce, Taylor Swift had a relentless stage dad pushing her along when she started, a big work ethic - her vocals, while always thin, have improved a lot over the years - and the sort of beauty that appeals as much to women as it does men (in Taylor’s case, maybe even more?), but I think, like Carole King, Taylor actually has a real genius for writing evocative pop bangers.

R21 Beyonce changed album release dates.
Albums used to be released on Tuesdays going back to at least the 90’s, maybe the 80’s.
When Beyonce released her surprised self-titled album in 2013 on a Friday, the industry followed.
Music is released on Fridays now because of Beyonce.
I’d say that’s a feat.

R66 Her last album was a long, derivative, reductive, dull, boastful commercial about herself. She can't shut about about how great she is, and you are simply parroting it back.
Her sales impress because her 'product' doesn't anymore? I'm way more interested in how music sounds rather than how it's marketed.
