Some Democrat.

A lot of country music acts pander to their audience and tell them political and cultural points they want to hear. The smart ones who don't agree with the stereotypical southern right wing politics just focus on the music and leave politics out of it so they won't alienate their fan base.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 6, 2024 12:15 PM |
Valid point, though look at Tim McGraw - he's a country singer and a dem with (what appear to be) fairly liberal views. But to my recollection, he's never wrapped himself in the flag & pandered to wannabe dictators like Keith did.

That's a legitimately hilarious question to ask in this of all threads, but I'm not sure you're joking. Anyone too young to remember Keith's brand of patriotism should check out "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)." It's "Accidental Racist"-level bad.

I had a colleague (about 70) who was diagnosed with stomach cancer end of July. She was dead three weeks later. My friends, who were closer to her than I, said she had said something hadn't felt right, but she didn't really have sufficient symptoms to go for a test. My guess is that, as we get older, we get used to intermittent and/or chronic (they can be both) feelings of discomfort and shrug them off, assuming we'd be running to the doctor every other week otherwise. And then it does turn out to be cancer (or something equally grim).

by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 6, 2024 12:28 PM |
This whole "Oh, making it about politics again?" take is such braindead bullshit. Everything is about politics bitch. Grow up. Imagine, adults being concerned about how our society is organized and governed when it affects every facet of our quality of life. Imagine, adults relating things to politics when we have the agency to vote at the local, state, and national level. He's the one who chose to run his mouth about it and write propagandistic anthems for jingoism. If Toby Keith didn't want to be remembered for politics he could have refrained from involving himself in a majorly public and attention seeking way.

My son lives in Moore, Oklahoma, and the city has a water tower painted “Home of Toby Keith”.
From what I recall, he performed in Dubai for lots of money, similar to Beyoncé.

During their feud, Natalie Maines wore a tee shirt that said "F.U.T.K." to an awards show.
When asked what it meant, she said it stood for "Friends United in Truth and Kindness."
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 6, 2024 3:52 PM |
I may not have agreed with his politics, I liked Toby Keith as a performer. And he may have been more pop than country, his songs were catchy. I especially liked "God Love Her" and "How Do You Like Me Now."
