Taylor Swift has 4 AOTYs yet Kanye, Jay, Usher, Queen Bey has 0. Some of the most critically acclaimed albums of all time. The point is the Grammys will always award the least rhythmic sounding song or artist with about a 20 year average exception. It’s asinine( especially for an award ceremony which claims it’s not merely a popularity contest. But is Blanche it is. And a subversive one at that because it will always award the most far away from contemporary black music artist that exists.
The Grammys are a whole joke

Incomprehensible gibberish.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 5, 2024 11:43 PM |
I was about to agree with you until you name-checked Kanye, Jay Z, Usher, and Beyoncé. Collectively, they deserve zero Grammys.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 5, 2024 11:45 PM |
This isn’t about sour grapes. It’s about being real. The Styles, Swifts, and Ellishes are talented but come the fuck on. Every young white artists with some solid reviews and huge commercial impact will win a general category. A black artist should be grateful to even be nominated? Fuck outta here.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 5, 2024 11:45 PM |
R2 Fair enough. But this about reviews. The same way universally acclaimed films usually get nominated for Oscars. Look at the wins. It will always be the most similar to music that came out in the 70s and 70s with icing on the cake of a young white cunt with a huge commercial appeal.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 5, 2024 11:46 PM |
I stopped watching any awards shows years ago. Much ado about nothing if you ask me. I have grown to detest celebrity culture.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 5, 2024 11:48 PM |
A record like Crazy by Gnarls Barley can’t take home Record the Year but Miley Cyrus’ Flowers. Kanye’s albums universal acclaim yet some middle brow shit always wins. This not about their personalities or how much money they got. There is complete illicit bias. Ed Sheeran, who is one of my favorite current pop artis can easily win Record of the Year for a Marvin Gaye retread yet when Usher or John Legend realest the same type of seeeping, too 50 dominant, solid reviews love ballads they ALWAYS lose. Fuck outta here. Fuck the Grammys and their bias.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 5, 2024 11:49 PM |
Sweeping*, top 40 dominant.

Way back when, the Grammys were all about traditional music. Gale Garnett's We'll Sing In the Sunshine beat Dylan's Blowing in the Wind for Best Folk. But in the end, the Grammys are an industry award. They give awards to the successful artists.

SZA shoulda won album of the year. That album was transformative, and evocative and influential but hey Taylor Swift wrote another top selling album and plays the guitar, she is a musical genius. Rolls my motherfucking eyes.
SZA’s album also broke records for weeks at number one.

If Usher would have released 24K, he would have been nominated, congratulated for a great album with commercial success but ultimately not groundbreaking enough.

Is r4 suggesting that "Barbie" is the favored movie for awards?
Go read Rolling Stone; they always have "Best" lists that include zero commercially appealing songs.
Is the OP suggesting that because he says so that Taylor Swift should have lost?

R18 My motivation is not Taylor Swift losing; it doesn’t add up. 4 Album of the year wins. Come on, her timing ain’t that great. There is complete bias and all the black industry tastemakers should protest the Grammys, not perform, and stop letting the Grammys use them for youth and the cool factor. This bitch is more talented than Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, Alicia Keys, and Jay-Z?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 6, 2024 12:10 AM |
No use crying over spilled milk. They will just have to try harder next year. But whining and rubbing your pussy because the people you wanted to win a Grammy didn't win, is just a waste of your time.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 6, 2024 12:12 AM |
I thought last night's Grammys was one of the best yet. It was electric. The staging was out of this world. The entertainment gave us a lot of choices for being entertained. The MC was encouraging. I've watched most of the Grammys since they first aired, I think in the late 50s or early 60s. Some have been better than others, which I think is pretty common for award shows. This perspective comes from a 79 year old who was in the music business and still keeps up with the many changes. I don't love all of the newest music, but I do love the effort these newer artists put into entertaining. I remember when Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" hit our turntables. I cried then and I still cried last night when she sang. There's so much more to love and appreciate than who gets the few awards each year.

As sister Maya used to say, when people tell you who they are, believe them.
As soon as Rebbie Jackson got completely shut out at the 1985 ceremony despite her electrifying breakout hit, Centipede — nary a nomination — I knew what the Grammys were really all about. Misogynoir, white hegemony, boots on the necks of BIPOC to misappropriate their art and property. No ma’am, I am not the one.
Don’t even get me started on Gnarls Barkley, who basically wrote this millennium’s Greensleeves only to be overlooked by a predominantly thankless and unrewarding white public.

Taylor Swift was such an asshole at the Grammys. She acted like a 2nd row Becky, standing up, singing along, and trying to make Tracy Chapman's performance all about Taylor, which the director and cameraman were happy to go along with. Then she bragged about how many Grammys she has, and snubbed Céline Dion, anddidn't acknowledge her fellow nominees.
Taylor Swift is an asshole.

I stopped watch the Grammy Awards a few years ago. I'm still very much into music at age 60, even a lot of new music, however 95% of what I'm into that is new is basically independent or just not mainstream. I know most of the names of the nominees, but I know only some of their actually music. Let's face it, the overwhelming majority of what is on the charts or popular today is just terrible. And even the winners I read the next day were perplexing to me. A no talent like Miley Cyrus winning over Billie Eilish for record of the year?! Boygenius winning over Arctic Monkeys for best rock performance? At least their not horrible, but come on!
