I've heard he's very quietly gay. Not closeted, and fully out to his friends and family, but he also doesn't bring it up in interviews.

Very handsome, but for some reason, like so many British actors, he stopped giving a crap about his appearance.

While American actors a bit obsessed and foolishly think cosmetic surgery will extend their careers, British actors seem to stop giving a crap and don't even bother hitting the gym or exercising.

Neither do active actors. It depends on whether the viewer values beauty or good acting.

Many middle-class and/or wealthy gay men are obsessed and worried about their own physical appearance, and so they expect everyone else has to be too. So it makes irrationally them angry when handsome actors like Jeremy Northam are not gym rats.
