‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Casts Catherine O’Hara

Catherine O’Hara has been cast in “The Last of Us” Season 2 at HBO, Variety has learned.

Details on the character O’Hara will be playing are being kept under wraps. She joins returning series leads Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the hit series alongside new cast members Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, and Kaitlyn Dever as Abby.

O’Hara is one of the most celebrated comedic actresses in modern times, having first broken out during her time on the acclaimed sketch comedy series “SCTV.” She is best known most recently for her starring role in the comedy series “Schitt’s Creek,” on which she played Moira Rose throughout the show’s six-season run. She received two Emmy nominations for the show, winning the award for best actress in a comedy in 2020 for the final season. O’Hara is also known for her work in the films of Christopher Guest like “A Mighty Wind,” “Best in Show,” and “Waiting for Guffman.” She has starred in other features like “Beetlejuice,” and “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2.”

“The Last of Us” is based on the hit video game of the same name created by Neil Druckmann and developed by Naughty Dog. The official description states “the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

Season 1 of the series was written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Druckmann. Both have also directed episodes of the show. Carolyn Strauss and Evan Wells, president of Naughty Dog, executive produce along with PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan as well as Rose Lam. The series is a co-production between HBO and Sony Pictures Television. PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog produce.

The cast for Season 1 also included Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, Storm Reid, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Woodard, Graham Greene, Elaine Miles, Ashley Johnson, and Troy Baker.

“The Last of Us” proved to be a massive hit with both critics and audiences. In addition to stellar viewership, the show received multiple awards nominations for its first season. It received three Golden Globe nominations as well as 25 Emmy nominations. The show won eight Emmys at the Creative Arts Emmys. That includes wins for both Offerman and Reid for best guest actor and actress in a drama series respectively.

by Anonymousreply 15April 14, 2025 2:42 AM

by Anonymousreply 17April 14, 2025 2:53 AM

Is there a thread for season 2 yet? It started tonight

by Anonymousreply 18April 14, 2025 2:54 AM

I had to pause the season two premiere just now to comment how hot Young Mazino is and how deeply I need him inside me. Oh, and they finally got real giraffes, so that's nice. I love those gentle giants so much, we really don't deserve them.

More to come later!

by Anonymousreply 19April 14, 2025 4:59 AM

Well, that was really, really good. Just as I started to get bored with interpersonal drama, they introduce the stalkers, which scare the shit out of me!

Fuck that Matt Damon at the New Year's party. I mean, really? Let the baby dykes be, for fuck sake.

Can I have Young Mazino now that Dina no longer needs him?

Catherine O'Hara killed it as no fucks given psychotherapist.

by Anonymousreply 20April 14, 2025 12:38 PM

Young Manzino should be naked and bathing in a river only to notice Pedro Pascal peeking at his smooth male body through the branches of the nearby forest. They can get it on and on. Catherine O'Hara can unpack it all in a therapy session. So much more interesting than the over-the-top random violence in every episode.

by Anonymousreply 21April 14, 2025 10:02 PM

I’m not reading this thread too closely because I haven’t started s2 yet, but I noticed an interesting disparity in the cotton tomatoes reviews.

Both seasons get close to 100% from the critics. But there’s a big drop in audience approval in s2 — 88% like s1 but only about 68% like s2. I wonder if that’s just unrealistic expectations after s1, or the incel brigade bombing the ratings door whatever weird agenda they have, or … it’s just not as good?

by Anonymousreply 22April 15, 2025 2:00 PM

^^^ rotten

by Anonymousreply 23April 15, 2025 2:01 PM

Yes, it's the incels doing that, the main sub for the game still can't get over Bella's casting. Only one episode of the second season has aired so far, so I don't know why RT even allows people to rate the season as a whole at this point.

by Anonymousreply 24April 15, 2025 2:12 PM

But r24 using that rationale, why is s1 so much higher?

by Anonymousreply 25April 15, 2025 2:42 PM

Because they eventually got on board with that actress. What they can't get on board this season is that there's been a five-year time jump and she wasn't recast with a sexier actress.

by Anonymousreply 26April 15, 2025 2:44 PM

season 1 started out as a great dystopian story and had some very appealing characters - the middle aged fungus scientist, the daughter who was killed, Joel. The gay couple episode was good on its own, but didn’t add to the storyline for me.

Now it’s just a soap opera. But that’s usually how it goes. Same with Designated Survivor, Yellow Jackets, Walking Dead.

Ellie is exceptionally unappealing. You don’t have to be a disappointed incel to feel that way. It doesn’t help that she is not good-looking, but she’s unfunny and an asshole outside of that. A good looking actress playing that role the same way would also be unlikeable. Every time she is on the screen she is doing something annoying. The sole exceptions in episode 1 were some of her light hearted interactions with her gf and the scene when she was watching her dance. She pulled that off. And then turned back into an asshole when Joel dared to stand up for her. The part where they were communicating silently was very stupid. Oh, look, what a bond they have! They are so expert at zombie hunting.! Well, apparently not because they fucked up. Because they were being assholes.

I watch this kind of thing for stuff like the stalker angle. Which didn’t get the build up it should have. They showed it and then Ellie announced it. It should have unfolded.

by Anonymousreply 27April 15, 2025 3:09 PM

Bella is they now. Maybe a reason, who knows?

by Anonymousreply 28April 15, 2025 3:10 PM

The actress they cast to play Dina is insanely charismatic. She's Hawkgirl in the new Superman movie as well.

by Anonymousreply 29April 15, 2025 3:26 PM

[quote]They showed it and then Ellie announced it. It should have unfolded.

But it did unfold – in the supermarket. I would have hated it if they had Bella keep quiet about it because she was too busy dealing with the bite. That would have been one of those "bad communication" tropes we see on TV so often. These post-apocalyptic people are direct and to the point, and I love that.

by Anonymousreply 30April 15, 2025 3:29 PM

And unless you think I'm just praising the show, I did find some of Catherine O’Hara's lines cringe and unworthy of an actress like her. Like, we get it, she's a bad bitch, you don't have to keep hitting me over the head with it.

by Anonymousreply 31April 15, 2025 3:31 PM

There’s a guy on IG who stops people on the street in Manhattan to ask what they do for a living and it’s obviously quite staged because New Yorkers do NOT want to stop and talk.

But he does have Young Mazino jogging by shirtless and sweaty in one video. “I’m an actor!” he calls out as he doesn’t even stop his stride. I wish I knew the guy’s name.

by Anonymousreply 44April 21, 2025 2:53 AM

I take it that most of you who are disappointed don’t play the video game series. Joel’s death in the second video game is what made the fans of the series extremely pissed off. I can only imagine that the reactions to the series and future episodes will get worse if it follows the storyline of the second game.

[quote]I asked Google AI if Joel is gone for good from season 2 after this death in episode 2.

I thought these AI chatbots have a cutoff date that's a year or so in the past? I know I told it last year that the pandemic was over and it replied with a semi-bitchy "I have no knowledge of that, but I'm happy to hear that."

by Anonymousreply 54April 21, 2025 11:44 AM

Move over, PP, Young Mazino is the star of the show now. Tall as fuck, smoothest skin in the biz, and the voice to get your knickers wet in an instant.

Having said that, I'm extremely shocked by what happened and probably need some time off from the show. First the pope and now this, the world's gone to shit!

by Anonymousreply 55April 21, 2025 11:46 AM

Can someone please explain to me where all those infected in this episode came from? A sinkhole?

by Anonymousreply 56April 21, 2025 12:53 PM

r56 I was wondering that too. Most of them looked freshly infected, and there were hundreds. Was there a huge settlement nearby? Why didn't anyone in Jackson apparently know about it?

by Anonymousreply 57April 21, 2025 1:02 PM

R56 - they obviously came up through China.

Killing off Joel is a true jump the shark moment. Yes, it's in the game. But a game is a game, and a TV show is a TV show. They have different rules.

Ellie is not a compelling enough character to carry the show, nor is Bella Ramsey a good enough actor. Turning the series into "Ellie's Revenge Quest" is boring.

I wasn't really into the season premiere, and the prospect of watching this show after obsessing over "White Lotus" for two months seemed like a tall order. But this seals it. I'm out.

by Anonymousreply 61April 21, 2025 3:54 PM

I cringe every time Ellie swears, it just sounds so incongruous with that actress. And that's coming from someone who has no issue with this casting.

by Anonymousreply 62April 21, 2025 3:56 PM

I like her and will keep watching, even though I’m pissed, I just can’t buy her as a 19 year old.

by Anonymousreply 63April 21, 2025 3:58 PM

There are Joel flashbacks throughout the game. I'm assuming they'll do precisely the same in the series.

I'd recommend playing the game because Ashley Johnson is SO much better as Ellie, but honestly? When my gf was replaying Pt. 2, I just headed upstairs when Abby asserts herself as the game's other main character. Could not STAND her.

Now the tv series has an unlikeable Ellie and Abby. Good luck to those still watching.

by Anonymousreply 64April 21, 2025 4:06 PM

The show needs to tone down Ellie as some kind of teen alpha boss bitch with grown men taking orders from her and the other little bitch. Also, Ellie as some hot ass bitch getting any chick she can?

by Anonymousreply 65April 21, 2025 4:14 PM

I will only continue watching if Ellie takes Young Mazino with her on her revenge tour. Will that be the case? I'll flip a coin if she takes Dina.

by Anonymousreply 66April 21, 2025 4:14 PM

It gets worse, R65.

Part 2 sucked so hard.

by Anonymousreply 67April 21, 2025 4:47 PM

Yes, hardcore fans of the game loathe Part 2, and it's nowhere near considered a classic like the first game.

by Anonymousreply 68April 21, 2025 5:16 PM

Yep, that's why I'm waiting for Pt. 3. I'm willing to give Druckmann one more chance.

Given that he didn't change anything up in the series vis a vis Joel's death, however, I'm not holding my breath for it to be good.

by Anonymousreply 69April 21, 2025 6:00 PM

[quote]I will only continue watching if Ellie takes Young Mazino with her on her revenge tour. Will that be the case? I'll flip a coin if she takes Dina.

Get ready to flip that coin, toots.

by Anonymousreply 70April 21, 2025 6:04 PM

Will it be explained where that horde came from? And what happens to those dogs now, do they immediately get infected as they attack the zombies and then have to be put down? I imagine infected dogs are as dangerous as the infected people, if not more so.

by Anonymousreply 71April 21, 2025 6:07 PM

The dogs are purely a conceit from the series, not the game, so I don't know what the showrunners have planned.

There's one dog later in Pt. 2. Maybe that's where the two plot lines get tied up..?

by Anonymousreply 72April 21, 2025 6:12 PM

HBO, you can make it up to us by offering Pedro Pascal a part in The White Lotus Season 3.

by Anonymousreply 73April 21, 2025 6:20 PM

So what's his next project now? TV, I mean, I know he's in the Fantastic Four.

by Anonymousreply 74April 21, 2025 6:22 PM

The dogs were probably a nod to the dogs in the game that the W.L.F. in Seattle use to sniff out and attack trespassers (i.e. Ellie). A TV show obviously can't show her hacking her way through a bunch of German Shepherds, so instead the creators put them in Jackson to help the good guys take down the infected.

by Anonymousreply 75April 21, 2025 6:25 PM

I've never been able to tell these two cuties apart.

The gist of it apparently is that the freckled one is a Texan and the other one a Mexican. Now I just need to come up with a mnemonic device that'll help me keep this distinction in my mind forever.

Joel’s tv death hit way harder than Joel’s game death. I wasn’t even mad at Abby in the game, but now I want to kill her.

by Anonymousreply 79April 22, 2025 5:34 AM

Given the plot and pacing of the TV series is closely following the game there is no way they can either not kill of Joel nor move his death to later. The rest of the plot depends on Ellie trying to take her revenge. There is no plot without this happening… unless it’s a completely different plot.

by Anonymousreply 80April 22, 2025 7:55 AM

I really didn't think they'd kill off Joel on the show. Yes he died in the game but tv audiences are different. Also, the gaming audience hated that Joel died. There's never been a part 3 of the game.

I really don't care to see that ugly annoying little cunt be the main character of the show.

by Anonymousreply 81April 23, 2025 12:28 AM

What else is there to watch on Sunday nights? MAX knows this and doesn't care.

by Anonymousreply 82April 23, 2025 2:19 AM

Not ashamed to admit I jerked off at a clip of Young Mazino in all his naked glory in Beef.

by Anonymousreply 87April 25, 2025 12:47 AM

Where did the get those hounds from hell? Those were not your regular pooches. And how did they know not to attack non infected folks? Also, Tommy stood in the middle of the zombie horde on the street and they just went by him.

by Anonymousreply 88April 25, 2025 8:20 AM

[quote] Those were not your regular pooches. And how did they know not to attack non infected folks? Also, Tommy stood in the middle of the zombie horde on the street and they just went by him.

i think you just answered your own question.

Tommy is probably sick/infected.

In World War Z, the zombies only attacked healthy people, and bypassed people who were dying of cancer or other illnesses.

It's likely that the attack dogs sensed something wrong with Tommy, and therefore avoided him.

by Anonymousreply 89April 25, 2025 8:40 AM

It's not just Tommy. They avoided a whole bunch of uninfected people. Are they all sick?

by Anonymousreply 90April 27, 2025 12:44 PM

I'm not digging the teen lesbo love story much. I muted it during the tent scene... don't care to hear them talking about their "feelings". Also, the idea of two teen girls going across a zombie infested world with limited supplies, hoping to eventually meet up with the ex-Fireflys on a revenge plan. Far-fetched much? Sheesh. I figure the game is based on this "whole get even for Joel scenario", but it's stupid IRL.

by Anonymousreply 91April 28, 2025 2:42 AM

It's pretty hilarious that you find two teens going on a revenge quest and having feelings far fetched in a world full mushroom-infested zombies. Do you understand how basic human narratives even work?

by Anonymousreply 92April 28, 2025 4:05 AM

Those Seraphites were fucking terrifying, though not as terrifying as the Wolves, whom I hate for obvious reasons. How on earth are Ellie and Dina supposed to take them on?

I wonder how many cities FEDRA still holds.

by Anonymousreply 93April 28, 2025 6:11 AM

I'm ambivalent toward Pedro as an actor, but without him, this show feels rudderless.

by Anonymousreply 94April 28, 2025 3:28 PM

I feel the exact same way. I mean wow was his absence felt in this episode. Not a fan of flashbacks, so I don't think those will fill the void for me either.

by Anonymousreply 95April 28, 2025 3:42 PM

That ugly little bitch is all wrong to be the star of the show. It was Pedro Pascal's show. Yes, Joel died in the video game but TV is a different medium. What a horrible decision.

by Anonymousreply 98April 30, 2025 12:02 PM

I saw Jeffrey Wright in the preview for the upcoming episode. I like him as an actor and hope he'll fill the void that Pedro has left.

by Anonymousreply 99April 30, 2025 8:10 PM

Jeffrey Wright has always been great in everything I've seen him in.

by Anonymousreply 100April 30, 2025 8:22 PM

I have a bad habit of nitpicking things in TV/movies that should just be accepted for the entertainment but I keep pondering how it's a little convenient that Ellie has been bitten twice... only bitten. In most other encounters with the infected, people are shown getting torn up while fighting for their lives. You'd expect she'd at least get some black eyes, broken noses, arms, severe wounds, gashes, etc. Lucky Ellie with the plot armor.

by Anonymousreply 101May 1, 2025 6:13 PM

I wish they'd explain if people are still getting infected from the food supply or not.

by Anonymousreply 102May 1, 2025 9:14 PM

Jeffrey Wright was spectacular in the first season of HBO's Westworld. Actually the first season was the only good one, HBO should have made it a movie.

by Anonymousreply 103May 1, 2025 10:29 PM

R102, I wonder this, too. It spread through flour initially, but they haven't shown any precautions taken since. I would at least think the survivors might not eat baked goods, but they do. Why would they trust it wouldn't leap into flour again?

by Anonymousreply 104May 3, 2025 6:35 AM

Yes, r104. It really doesn't make any sense. We've seen people eating pancakes and other flour-based foods on the show. You would think they'd be scared to death to touch anything that was flour-based.

by Anonymousreply 105May 3, 2025 6:17 PM

Episode #4: This teen lovey-dovey shit is killing me. They find a bunch of dead bodies, get stalked by Wolves, chased by undead and almost die about 5 times in one hour but manage to escape dead. In the next interlude, Dina sees Ellie get bit, then almost shoots her, then Dina says she's pregnant! They find a little cubbyhole and they have more sex than Joel had in the whole series. How many more episodes?

by Anonymousreply 106May 5, 2025 1:55 AM

Pregnant? Talk about bad timing.

by Anonymousreply 107May 5, 2025 1:56 AM

Disappointing episode tonight, this is the first time I was bored watching the show.

by Anonymousreply 108May 5, 2025 2:14 AM

Joel is sorely missed.

by Anonymousreply 109May 5, 2025 2:28 AM

Watching these two on their seek-and-destroy mission has not pulled me in to care very much. I never tuned the show out when Joel was onscreen, but tonight there were at least 3 times I zoned or rolled my eyes. I like Jeffrey Wright, I wasn't feeling the menace during his hot copper pan torture scene. Then the guitar serenade almost put me to sleep. My eyes rolled to the ceiling when Dina drops her preggo bombshell and attacks Ellie with her lips. WTF?

Kill Abbie? Good luck, but I'm not invested.

by Anonymousreply 110May 5, 2025 2:44 AM

When it was Ellie and Joel it was very good, the dynamic between those two worked.

by Anonymousreply 111May 5, 2025 3:39 AM

I thought it was an absolutely thrilling episode... during the action scenes. But when it's just those two alone, it's not compelling at all. Like r100, I also rolled my eyes – at the serenade, the pregnancy announcement, and the hand holding at the end. It's like it switched to a completely different show.

LOVED seeing the Wolves getting rekt. More, more, again, again!

DL's favourite Gilded Age twink Ben Ahlers enters stage and he almost steals the scene from under Jeffrey Wright's nose. He's straight, so don't get any notions now.

The nekkid Seraphite was played by Ryan Masson, who's been in loads of stuff. Has a super cute filmmaker boyfriend.

Episode four felt like a reboot of the season to be more like season one. The "Take On Me" performance was nice, and the subway escape from the infected was thrilling. This episode felt the most like a video game, with the various obstacles the characters went through. Isabel Merced's performance is making up for a lot of Bella Ramsey's deficits as an actor. Bella just isn't a compelling enough lead to carry this series, and Ellie is a really obnoxious character, period.

The absence of Joel/Pedro is casting a really long shadow over the series. Only three episodes are left; I'm going to stick it out to the end to see where it goes, but the original interest just isn't there.

by Anonymousreply 114May 5, 2025 4:33 PM

This show has been progressive in the fact that the only two scenes of couples being sexual in the whole series were gays. I loved the scenes Frank and Bill last season, but the lesbian thing is just not cooking for me. Their teens falling in love scenes seem out of kilter with the apocalypse horror that's going on all around. I thought I heard wrong when she said 'pregnant' and those words got a WTF from me. Maybe if I played the game I could appreciate the relationship between Ellie and Dina differently.

Even the civil war fighting seems so "big picture" and these girls playing at being mercenaries is hard for me to swallow.

by Anonymousreply 115May 5, 2025 6:21 PM

They don't act at all like they're on a mission of revenge. Ellie in particular seems so cheery all the time. Where's the rage that is supposed to be fuelling her on this trip? Bulldozed by romance with Dina?

by Anonymousreply 116May 5, 2025 6:26 PM

I nitpicked earlier in this thread (in R101) about Ellie getting bitten and she gets bit again in this episode. It's so convenient she only gets a few punctures from zombie teeth and not a chunk of flesh ripped off. Nothing that a bit of gauze can't fix compared to skin torn open, muscle and tendons destroyed and major bleeding from veins bisected. That is luck!

by Anonymousreply 117May 5, 2025 6:56 PM

I've been wondering, is it a bit of a mindfuck for people from Seattle watching this? Do they recognise, say, that vista at the very end when they're on the rooftop? Or are regular buildings that aren't landmarks fictionalised?

by Anonymousreply 118May 5, 2025 7:01 PM

I missed something - who’s this Isaac guy torturing the naked guy, and who’s the naked guy?

by Anonymousreply 119May 6, 2025 12:11 AM

Jeffrey Wright makes me miss Westworld (before it went off the rails and sucked)

by Anonymousreply 120May 6, 2025 1:31 AM

Isaac is the man in the first scene who threw a grenade into the armored car full of FEDRA goons. Apparently he switched sides along the lines and now is a WOLF, and is going after the folks with facial scars. These 2 groups are in a civil war, with FEDRA against both groups, I think (I didn't play the videogame).

by Anonymousreply 121May 6, 2025 1:58 AM

The Wolves lost about fifty soldiers over the course of this episode, all relatively young. That seems like A LOT in a post-apocalyptic context where every life is that much more precious. So I can't wait to see what the fallout from that will be. Something tells me the Seraphites are way worse and they might do something terrible to Ellie if they find out she's immune.

by Anonymousreply 122May 6, 2025 2:05 AM

Ramsey speaks some sense.

Yes, thank you Bella. I was debating with someone how some people wanted to claim Joanne of Arc and Eleanor of Acquitane as transgendered, and I said to them, "Don't take away the efforts of women and attribute them to transmen".

by Anonymousreply 124May 6, 2025 8:29 PM

[quote]Even though Ramsey does not identify as female and says being labeled an “actress” does not feel quite right,

There are two sexes honey, male and female. You're female.

by Anonymousreply 125May 6, 2025 9:59 PM

Bella Ramsey was interviewed by Louis Theroux for his podcast and she came across really well.

by Anonymousreply 126May 6, 2025 10:04 PM

She really does not seem 21.

by Anonymousreply 127May 6, 2025 10:19 PM

I'm way behind, but I just watched Joel die.

How stupid. I know that's how it happened in the game, but this isn't Game of Thrones. There are two leads. And one is dead.

I assume viewership has dropped off?

by Anonymousreply 128May 10, 2025 8:13 AM

Mhm.

[quote]According to Programming Insider, the Season 2 premiere pulled in 938,000 linear viewers in the U.S. Episode 2 saw that number fall to just 643,000 – a staggering 31.5% drop. Episode 3 posted a partial recovery with 768,000 viewers, but still trailed the premiere by over 170,000.

by Anonymousreply 129May 10, 2025 10:57 AM

It was a nice surprise to see Hettienne Park in ep. 5 - loved her as Beverly in "Hannibal". Also, I saw the name Alanna Ubach and I recognized it for some reason. I looked her up and see she's been in a lot of stuff but I finally found where I remember her from - a kid's show called Beakman's World that ran in the mid-90's. How time flies.

by Anonymousreply 130May 12, 2025 1:21 AM

These teen girls playing like they're Seal Team 6 going after Abbie like she's Bin Laden, escaping death by inches at every turn.... not pulling me in. And suddenly Jesse just finds them in Seattle w/o getting killed himself?

(I didn't play the game, so my perspective on is different)

by Anonymousreply 131May 12, 2025 1:40 AM

Young Mazino to the rescue! Like the most beautiful knight in shining armour you have ever seen. I have such a bad feeling about him and Tommy though, I feel like they won't survive the season.

I liked the way they subverted our (well, my) expectations at the end – I fully expected Ellie to be caught by the Scars meters away from the hospital.

Ramsey always sounds like she has a retainer in her mouth. I think she could benefit from voice lessons.

r130 Was just about to do a shout out to Hettienne Park. She was a charisma machine in Hannibal, took me ages to get over her horrible death. Haven't seen her in anything since The Outsider, which I couldn't finish.

by Anonymousreply 132May 12, 2025 12:46 PM

Ellie turned the lights on in the theater, alerting all of Seattle that people were in the building. That was really stupid.

by Anonymousreply 133May 12, 2025 12:55 PM

Ellie and Dina make all kind of terrible decisions that would have immediately alerted others to their presence. A theater of that size with electricity being abandoned is kind of silly; in a post-apocalyptic scenario, a building like that would have incredible value. Jesse rushing in at just the right moment was eye roll-inducing.

How's the horse doing, by the way?

Since this episode kind of ended on a cliffhanger (Dina getting an arrow to the thigh, Ellie still in the hospital basement), next week looks like it will be a flashback to Joel and Ellie's falling out (or something like that). Which will lead to the last episode of the season, which will also probably end on a cliffhanger -- I would guess Abby will be involved somehow. And then it's another two-year wait until the next season.

by Anonymousreply 134May 12, 2025 4:10 PM

These two-year waits between seasons are killing me, although I guess it's better than the four years for the 3 Body Problem (expected in 2028!).

by Anonymousreply 135May 12, 2025 4:18 PM

And 4 years for Euphoria. They’ll be in a nursing home if there’s a season 4.

by Anonymousreply 136May 12, 2025 7:49 PM

And the Stranger Things kids are fully grown adults by now. I know there'll be a time jump, but I still lost interest two seasons ago.

by Anonymousreply 137May 12, 2025 7:56 PM

yeah, when Stranger Things comes back (sometime this year), I'll definitely have to watch the recap because I no longer remember what happened last season.

by Anonymousreply 138May 17, 2025 1:57 AM

Episode 6 -- 5/18/25: Started out with a child!Joel flashback, then into what happened to Eugene, and revealed other major plot points. However, the end gutted me..... Emmy noms for B. Ramsey and P. Pascal.

by Anonymousreply 139May 19, 2025 2:03 AM

I only liked the ending, the rest was beyond tedious.

by Anonymousreply 140May 19, 2025 4:51 AM

Episode six didn't do Ellie any favors. What an insufferable brat. It also underscored that killing Joel was a mistake. The series should have dropped the plot of the second game and went in its own direction.

One episode left. Abby will probably show up toward the end, resulting in a cliffhanger. Then it's two years at minimum until the next season. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 141May 19, 2025 2:53 PM

They never should've followed part 2 of the game. The gamers hated Joel's death, and there has never been a part 3. That ugly annoying little brat Ellie cannot carry the show.

by Anonymousreply 142May 19, 2025 3:00 PM

You can throw in face acting lessons for Ramsey, in addition to voice lessons. My god, she looks so gormless in all her scenes. The tears at the end were nice though, I didn't even care if they were fake or not.

by Anonymousreply 143May 19, 2025 3:21 PM

This last episode really moved around, but it needed to in order to cover all the backstories in part 2. O'Hara has been fucking perfect in her role, as was Pantoliano in his scene.

[quote]Abby will probably show up toward the end, resulting in a cliffhanger.

Yes, and yes.

by Anonymousreply 144May 19, 2025 6:35 PM

I can't stand looking at Bella. Truly. She has a ratface.

by Anonymousreply 145May 19, 2025 9:31 PM

R145 here. Not a gamer. There are elements of this TV sereies that really remind me of Game of Thrones. I adored Arya. Bella 's Ellie is not one little teensy bit as sympathetic as Arya.

by Anonymousreply 146May 19, 2025 11:52 PM

R139 What happened at the end of the episode that was gutting?

by Anonymousreply 147May 20, 2025 12:00 AM

Fourth season tentatively in the works.

by Anonymousreply 148May 20, 2025 5:35 AM

So I'm slow, but explain this to me. Ellie has the physical DNA whatever to develop a cure for this virus that is literally devouring mankind. But in order for the scientists to secure this cure they have to kill her? And how would it work? Would it be a vaccine that people not infected can take so they don't get infected? Is the only way to get it through being bitten? if you already have it can this reverse it? And where did those particularly big monsters come from, like the one Tommy had to use the flame thrower on until he ran out? There are definitely elements of Game of Thrones in this series.

by Anonymousreply 149May 20, 2025 2:23 PM

Making that vaccine would require extracting the mutated strain from her brain, killing her in the process.

The vaccine would then be given to the healthy and it would signal to the infected that the healthy were already infected, so they wouldn't attack. It wouldn't be able to reverse an infection. You get infected through a bite and through breathing in the spores, but that's a new pathway and found only in specific areas like that hospital where the earliest patients were brought in.

Those big monsters are mutated from people who have been infected for a really long time, a decade or more.

by Anonymousreply 150May 20, 2025 2:46 PM

Thank you, R150.

by Anonymousreply 151May 20, 2025 4:05 PM

R150 - is it possible to only infect MAGATs?

by Anonymousreply 152May 20, 2025 9:37 PM

r152 please leave politics out of threads that have fuck-all to do with politics.

by Anonymousreply 153May 20, 2025 10:04 PM

Oh, fuck off R153. Who made you hall monitor.

by Anonymousreply 154May 20, 2025 10:05 PM

You fuck off r153. The political shit in threads that have nothing to do with politics is ridiculous. Yes, we all hate Trump and Republicans. But we don't need it in other threads.

by Anonymousreply 155May 20, 2025 10:07 PM

Kaitlyn Dever, Young Mazino, now Catherine O'Hara? Love it.

by Anonymousreply 156May 20, 2025 10:09 PM

R155 - then skip over it, moron. It wasn’t intended to be part of the political discourse. Maybe pull your panties out of your ass.

by Anonymousreply 157May 20, 2025 10:10 PM

Get fucked r157. Every thread doesn't need the political obsessives.

by Anonymousreply 158May 20, 2025 10:13 PM

Correction, R150 - can it apply to MAGATs and to R158 et al?

by Anonymousreply 159May 20, 2025 10:15 PM

I actually agree somewhat with both posters currently catfighting.....but am leaning towards the free speecher, if only because the please-let-me-enjoy-something without having to think of that horrible-troll poster, (who I completely sympathize with) should know bettter and just press the ignore button.

by Anonymousreply 160May 20, 2025 10:19 PM

Get fucked r159. We don't need political bullshit in other threads.

by Anonymousreply 161May 20, 2025 10:22 PM

Here’s an idea cunt @R161 - since you’re so obviously triggered by this, you block me, I’ll block you, and everyone can move on with their lives.

by Anonymousreply 162May 20, 2025 10:32 PM

Christ, this now has more guitar playing moments than infected zombies.

by Anonymousreply 163May 20, 2025 10:34 PM

Going back to her chin, she could play Jennifer Aniston's mother in something.

by Anonymousreply 164May 20, 2025 10:42 PM

I want to see the zombie monsters, not that ugly little troll playing guitar and falling in love.

by Anonymousreply 165May 20, 2025 11:01 PM

You know what? The show is becoming a big yawn. This from me who usually loves this stuff. Any one of us on here can predict and write the next episodes.

by Anonymousreply 166May 21, 2025 1:55 AM

Bella probably is not a big Lea Thomas fan and wants trans out of women's sports

by Anonymousreply 167May 24, 2025 12:37 AM

Can I just say again how great Ashley Johnson (CHRISSY SEAVER, ffs) is as Ellie in the game? As much as Bella Ramsey is bring hated on, Johnson's work is just looking better and better. More props, please. ☺

I do wonder how Naughty Dog is evaluating viewer response to season two. If Druckmann et al. was thinking they'd use the show to build to a new sequel, I really hope they're taking the criticism to heart. It wasn't just incel fanboys who hated Pt. 2 - it was wildly misimagined from beginning to end. If I want grim and sanctimonious, I'll go pick a fight with my mother.
