Jason Gould drops first single "Laws of Desire" off his new EP 'Sacred Days' - what do you think ?
Jason Gould started making music about ten years ago. He said he was always musical, but never really came out as a musician in fear of being 'judged' in comparison to his mother's talents. In 2012, he released an EP, and in 2017 he released a full album. This weekend, the 57 year old dropped the new single he cowrote - described as a 'hybrid dance song' - 'Laws of Desire' from his new EP 'Sacred Days', to be released March 22.
What do you all think ? Mother Streisand says she's proud of him.

He has a pleasant voice and he's cute. The video and song are silly.

Couldn't he have just named the EP "Nepo Days"?

Why do all of his songs sound the same? He should take the time to study music and vocals.

From whom?

Why doesn't he sing classics, like jazz standards? Material matters. His own mother could tell him that.

His mother's fans, R9. They're very charitable of all things Babs or Babs-related.

He has a very warm and pleasant voice, but his stylistic choices mirror those of his mother; the only thing that changes is the type of instrumentation, but the tenuous melodies, lethargic singing style and boring, unoriginal production are exactly the same. You'd think that he'd be more adventurous and try something more challenging and original, given the fact that he's obviously talented.
And sorry, R1, but there is nothing cure about good old Jason. He has the same goat-like face as his mother, with an even worse nose.

Voice is fine, but the music is just so blah. That beat drop is as basic as it can be.

I find nothing remarkable or memorable about his singing. The track reminds me of Cher.

I would think his mother's fans are past the age for dance tunes.

According to his mother, he was a big Donna Summer fan in the 70s, which was one big reason she did the duet. You might think he'd listen to more of her 70s music and be influenced by her.

R9 Probably a mix of leftover Barry Manilow fans and Clay Aiken's fans.

Jason has always had a good voice. He should have been singing for years. He let his talent go dormant. He could have gotten over the 'nepo' baby label because he's good. Liza Minnelli got over it; Jason could have as well.

He comes from a musical family. His mother, of course and his aunt, Roslyn Kind. He should have been cultivating and releasing his talent before just the past few years.

Jason WANTS to fail., because he can’t take the pressure. A tiny success if he can manage it is what he wants. Never could handle any of it, which is fine because he lives off Mothers money.

Jason Gould doesn't have the work ethic through desire or necessity that most average people have. And there's nothing wrong with that if it's not hurting anyone. He doesn't have the work ethic because he doesn't have to. He's been blessed to have the financial security that others don't have.
Several people on this thread have said he he didn't use his talent especially since it's obvious he has a good voice. But if you've ever listened to an interview with his mother, Barbra has often said that she's lazy. Of course, she has a vast body of work, in which she said she gave it her all. But when she's not working, she admits that she's lazy and doesn't want to work. Barbra probably sees these same 'lazy' qualities in Jason. When Barbra was young, she had the drive and the need to work. Jason is of a different generation, and grew up with the luxuries and security Barbra didn't have. Jason has the benefit of saying, "I'm shy," "I couldn't measure up to my mother's talent," etc. The average person doesn't have the benefit of sitting back, working on occasion and then kicking back when it doesn't suit us.
Having said all that, he seems to have squandered his talent. Because he could. No wife, no husband, no kids, not much responsibility to do all that much. That's a great life, I'd say.

Jason was excited to show Barbra his new video for the song but she hoped to hell the visuals were metaphoric. What Jewish mother needs to see her gay son's laws of desire?

Chris O’Donnell had been cast in “The Prince of Tides”, but was fired and Jason was given the role.

R54, that was because Pat Conroy didn't think Chris was a good choice because he was too athletic while the character was not a natural athlete, which was an important point. According to Barbra on page 10,347, Pat saw a picture of Jason and Saud, he's the one, so to speak. I'm paraphrasing because the actual story goes on for 70 pages.
I'm mocking but really living the book.
