Jason Gould drops first single "Laws of Desire" off his new EP 'Sacred Days' - what do you think ?

Jason Gould started making music about ten years ago. He said he was always musical, but never really came out as a musician in fear of being 'judged' in comparison to his mother's talents. In 2012, he released an EP, and in 2017 he released a full album. This weekend, the 57 year old dropped the new single he cowrote - described as a 'hybrid dance song' - 'Laws of Desire' from his new EP 'Sacred Days', to be released March 22.

What do you all think ? Mother Streisand says she's proud of him.

He has a pleasant voice and he's cute. The video and song are silly.

by Anonymousreply 1January 28, 2024 6:50 PM

Mama, can you hear me?

by Anonymousreply 2January 28, 2024 6:51 PM

Couldn't he have just named the EP "Nepo Days"?

by Anonymousreply 3January 28, 2024 6:59 PM

Why do all of his songs sound the same? He should take the time to study music and vocals.

by Anonymousreply 4January 28, 2024 6:59 PM
He should take the time to study music and vocals.

From whom?

by Anonymousreply 5January 28, 2024 7:00 PM

Why doesn't he sing classics, like jazz standards? Material matters. His own mother could tell him that.

by Anonymousreply 6January 28, 2024 7:01 PM

Funny Gay

by Anonymousreply 7January 28, 2024 7:01 PM
He said he was always musical, but never really came out as a musician in fear of being 'judged' in comparison to his mother's talents.

Huh?

by Anonymousreply 8January 28, 2024 7:04 PM

He's 57. I wonder who he thinks his audience is.

by Anonymousreply 9January 28, 2024 7:11 PM

His mother's fans, R9. They're very charitable of all things Babs or Babs-related.

by Anonymousreply 10January 28, 2024 7:13 PM

He has a very warm and pleasant voice, but his stylistic choices mirror those of his mother; the only thing that changes is the type of instrumentation, but the tenuous melodies, lethargic singing style and boring, unoriginal production are exactly the same. You'd think that he'd be more adventurous and try something more challenging and original, given the fact that he's obviously talented.

And sorry, R1, but there is nothing cure about good old Jason. He has the same goat-like face as his mother, with an even worse nose.

I haven't been so underwhelmed since I heard JT's new single 48 hours ago.

by Anonymousreply 12January 28, 2024 7:16 PM

Voice is fine, but the music is just so blah. That beat drop is as basic as it can be.

by Anonymousreply 13January 28, 2024 7:16 PM

I find nothing remarkable or memorable about his singing. The track reminds me of Cher.

by Anonymousreply 14January 28, 2024 7:23 PM

Chee!

by Anonymousreply 15January 28, 2024 7:24 PM
His mother's fans, [R9]. They're very charitable of all things Babs or Babs-related.

I would think his mother's fans are past the age for dance tunes.

by Anonymousreply 16January 28, 2024 7:32 PM

That's a dance tune, R16?

by Anonymousreply 17January 28, 2024 7:39 PM
That's a dance tune, [R16]?

He and his company have termed it as such:
This weekend, the 57 year old dropped the new single he cowrote - [bold]described as a 'hybrid dance song'[/bold] - 'Laws of Desire' from his new EP 'Sacred Days', to be released March 22.

by Anonymousreply 18January 28, 2024 7:41 PM

what is it hybrided with?

by Anonymousreply 19January 28, 2024 7:43 PM

A soporific, tuneless ballad R19? It's one of the most boring things I have ever heard.

by Anonymousreply 20January 28, 2024 7:46 PM

EVERYONE, R5.

by Anonymousreply 21January 28, 2024 8:09 PM

According to his mother, he was a big Donna Summer fan in the 70s, which was one big reason she did the duet. You might think he'd listen to more of her 70s music and be influenced by her.

by Anonymousreply 22January 28, 2024 8:12 PM

R9 Probably a mix of leftover Barry Manilow fans and Clay Aiken's fans.

by Anonymousreply 23January 28, 2024 8:16 PM

Don't forget Roslyn Kind fans.

by Anonymousreply 24January 28, 2024 8:20 PM

Was anyone asking for this?

by Anonymousreply 25January 28, 2024 8:22 PM

He’s no Streisand.

by Anonymousreply 26January 28, 2024 8:22 PM

he better have a big dick with that ugly nose.

by Anonymousreply 27January 28, 2024 8:34 PM

Jason sounds like Cher.

by Anonymousreply 28January 29, 2024 1:23 AM

Speed it up and increase the disco beat, and the song will be a hit in the dance clubs.

by Anonymousreply 29January 29, 2024 1:24 AM

Jason has always had a good voice. He should have been singing for years. He let his talent go dormant. He could have gotten over the 'nepo' baby label because he's good. Liza Minnelli got over it; Jason could have as well.

by Anonymousreply 30January 29, 2024 1:28 AM

Cut your hair, Jason.

by Anonymousreply 31January 29, 2024 1:31 AM

He comes from a musical family. His mother, of course and his aunt, Roslyn Kind. He should have been cultivating and releasing his talent before just the past few years.

by Anonymousreply 32January 29, 2024 1:33 AM

Jason WANTS to fail., because he can’t take the pressure. A tiny success if he can manage it is what he wants. Never could handle any of it, which is fine because he lives off Mothers money.

by Anonymousreply 33January 29, 2024 1:42 AM

Every single note is rehearsed, nothing spontaneous.

Jason Gould doesn't have the work ethic through desire or necessity that most average people have. And there's nothing wrong with that if it's not hurting anyone. He doesn't have the work ethic because he doesn't have to. He's been blessed to have the financial security that others don't have.

Several people on this thread have said he he didn't use his talent especially since it's obvious he has a good voice. But if you've ever listened to an interview with his mother, Barbra has often said that she's lazy. Of course, she has a vast body of work, in which she said she gave it her all. But when she's not working, she admits that she's lazy and doesn't want to work. Barbra probably sees these same 'lazy' qualities in Jason. When Barbra was young, she had the drive and the need to work. Jason is of a different generation, and grew up with the luxuries and security Barbra didn't have. Jason has the benefit of saying, "I'm shy," "I couldn't measure up to my mother's talent," etc. The average person doesn't have the benefit of sitting back, working on occasion and then kicking back when it doesn't suit us.

Having said all that, he seems to have squandered his talent. Because he could. No wife, no husband, no kids, not much responsibility to do all that much. That's a great life, I'd say.

by Anonymousreply 35January 29, 2024 3:04 AM

Jennifer Lopez is more entertaining than this.

by Anonymousreply 36January 29, 2024 3:13 AM

OP. I am an Eldergay , I liked it . Any dancing will occur at home , with the blinds drawn and only my cat 😺 providing any feedback on my skills and coreography. I am almost Medicare eligible, I would not be welcome at a club especially a gay one .

by Anonymousreply 37January 29, 2024 3:38 AM

He must be my age.

by Anonymousreply 38January 29, 2024 3:44 AM

The music sucks and sounds like crappy ez listening from the 1990’s.

by Anonymousreply 39January 29, 2024 4:58 AM

There are times when it sounds as though his voice is being auto-tuned. I'm not a fan of that.

by Anonymousreply 40January 29, 2024 7:27 AM

It sounds like "on hold" music you'd hear while waiting on the phone after selecting "speak to a representative".

by Anonymousreply 41January 29, 2024 7:36 AM

he sure did join ugly group when he said he is gay.. The rateo of civilized gays to common jackals would place the jackals on the endangered list

by Anonymousreply 42January 29, 2024 9:06 AM

R37 At57, Jason qualifies as an 'eldergay', too.

by Anonymousreply 43January 29, 2024 6:03 PM

Ugh R34, that song sounds like it was rejected by Barbra in 1984. Jason needs to find better co-writers for his music.

by Anonymousreply 44January 29, 2024 6:19 PM

Jason was excited to show Barbra his new video for the song but she hoped to hell the visuals were metaphoric. What Jewish mother needs to see her gay son's laws of desire?

by Anonymousreply 45January 29, 2024 7:21 PM

R44 Jason's next album will be produced by Barry Gibb. He will also do a duet with him.

by Anonymousreply 46January 30, 2024 2:40 AM

Ugh. Now I have to write another chapter for the memoir paperback edition.

by Anonymousreply 47January 30, 2024 3:04 AM

Jason's next album: "Not Guilty."

...or maybe, "Back to Bed."

by Anonymousreply 48January 30, 2024 3:28 AM

Jason just announced he will not be doing the duet with Chita Rivera he had planned for his next album. He made a call to Rita Moreno to take her place.

by Anonymousreply 49January 30, 2024 8:48 PM

is that supposed to be EDM? Downtempo? What?

by Anonymousreply 50January 30, 2024 8:51 PM

He has a better voice than I would have expected.

by Anonymousreply 51January 30, 2024 10:00 PM

He could've been the next Josh Groban with that voice, but yea...his song choices are lacking. I find him very likable. He's a vocal Trump hater so he can sit next to me anytime!

by Anonymousreply 52January 31, 2024 5:42 AM

Trying to launch a musical career at age 57 isn’t a well thought out strategy.

by Anonymousreply 53January 31, 2024 10:13 AM

FUN FACT

Chris O’Donnell had been cast in “The Prince of Tides”, but was fired and Jason was given the role.

by Anonymousreply 54January 31, 2024 10:53 AM

R54, that was because Pat Conroy didn't think Chris was a good choice because he was too athletic while the character was not a natural athlete, which was an important point. According to Barbra on page 10,347, Pat saw a picture of Jason and Saud, he's the one, so to speak. I'm paraphrasing because the actual story goes on for 70 pages.

I'm mocking but really living the book.
