Out today. My God, why mess with one of the most classic songs of all time? And this is... a mess.
Do not choose ANY artist solely based upon their sexuality. Ever.

It's a great song and I understand why someone would want to cover it. But that's like re-making The Wizard of Oz.

Is it as bad as that Olly Alexander cover of "It's a Sin"?

r1 What are you talking about?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 26, 2024 11:29 PM |
I think R1 is lost. It happens to all of us occasionally.

[quote] Jake Shears is Covering Being Boring
What have we, what have we, what have we done to deserve this?

I'm not on Spotify so I can't hear it. I hope it's not TOO dreadful.

Sooner or later this happens to everyone…to everyone.

This is one of my favorite songs. There is a paragraph in the lyrics that kills me, even when it came out in the 90s it made me feel nostalgic for the future.. The video was gorgeous as well. Well, mary, i know.
Having said all this. I was expecting something much worse, it is nice, actually. Not mind blowing, but nice. Will listen again.

Eh, it's fine - boring
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 26, 2024 11:45 PM |
It's an abomination
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 27, 2024 12:18 AM |
Well he IS boring, so.

I like Jake Shears but this cover is not good
I can’t think of an artist who would cover Being Boring and do it justice
Maybe Madonna? Or Janet Jackson?

Fuck no.

He has a new podcast to promote, "Queer the Music," which premiered on Jan. 30.
Shears was featured in the "On My Radar" column in The Observer (UK) a couple of Sundays ago. He actually had some good recommendations, including the singer Mega Bog (AKA Erin Birgy). I've listened to her album "The End of Everything" several times since, and plan to seek out more of her music. He has decent taste, at least.

I saw Jake get fucked in a backroom at John Street in lower Manhattan in the early 00s. Definitely not boring.

This queen is still around?! His 15 mins of fame were up about two decades ago.

Miley Cyrus covers Being Boring, yes?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 3, 2024 2:49 AM |
I quite like Jake, but this is… unnecessary.

As is his podcast, r20. He sounds very stilted, and it’s so obvious he’s (badly) reading a (badly paced) script.
Such a shame, because I really loved the Scisdor Susters Jake.

Scissor Sisters Jake, too.
