I saw it. It was a taut, suspenseful thriller, shifting political tensions on Earth to the claustrophobic confines of the International Space Station. The film examines human nature and who we truly are when a catastrophe occurs and our survival instinct kicks in. The problem is marketing. It’s a genre picture, but it’s not sci-fi, not horror, not action, however it does have a bit of all those elements. It’s a drama about existential dread, paranoia, hate, anger, love, loyalty, betrayal. I enjoyed it, but who the heck is the target audience for this movie? It would have probably worked better as a play.

The movie is so bad. I don’t understand why people are trying to make her a thing. She fully lacks charisma. She is entirely implausible as a scientist who would be sent to the International Space Station. She cannot carry a movie. She is not a box office draw. And the movie is too bad. Everyone looks like they’re floating around on strings attached to their belts. John Gallagher Jr and Chris Messina and the Russians are far more compelling.

It was a mistake to make her a lead but it will never happen again.

Oh, and Ariana’s character is an out lesbian in this movie. That may or may not resonate with audiences. It certainly limits overseas exhibits.
