June Squibb in "Thelma"

This could be funny or it could be awful.

[quote]It’s an adventure movie that proves kicking ass isn’t just a young person’s game. In it a grandmother loses $10,000 in a phone scam, prompting her to set out on a treacherous quest to get her money back. It’s fitting that Squibb, who gets the first starring role of her seven-decade screen career, was willing to perform action scenes that could have left her with titanium hips, because “Thelma” cheekily references and riffs on the gravity-defying sequences of “Mission: Impossible.”

[quote]In one scene, Squibb hijacks an electric scooter and has a vehicular showdown in a retirement home with Ben, played by the late Richard Roundtree in his final screen performance. The two zoom into each other and crash, as Squibb plows Roundtree’s scooter out of the way.

She's a horrible actress.

by Anonymousreply 4January 21, 2024 5:09 PM

I will watch this shit for June Squibb and Richard Roundtree.

by Anonymousreply 5January 21, 2024 5:11 PM

"I'm hearing Oscar buzz already for Squibb and Roundtree..."

by Anonymousreply 6January 21, 2024 5:29 PM

Thelma? At first I thought it was a big screen adaptation of Mama's Family. I love Squibb and will see it for her.

by Anonymousreply 7January 21, 2024 5:35 PM

Is this a porno?

by Anonymousreply 8January 21, 2024 5:46 PM

I love her in everything she does

by Anonymousreply 9January 21, 2024 6:00 PM

Squibb was terrible in an equally terrible film called "Would You Rather". I wonder why she would even associate herself with that sort of thing (and I love horror). But actors take on projects for all sorts of reasons.

Otherwise, I'm a fan and love to see her doing well.

Saw Thelma last night and loved it! So many funny moments in the movie. I could relate because my mom is getting close to 80 and doesn't even know the difference between WiFi and Bluetooth.

I heard good things about it today from two friends. I seldom go to the movies and don’t know who the actress is but I think I might make it out to this one.

by Anonymousreply 12June 24, 2024 6:36 AM

The movie has gotten good reviews. My Mom told me she is going to see it tomorrow with an old school friend.

by Anonymousreply 13June 24, 2024 6:48 AM

She was Schmidt's wife in "About Schmidt" and did a pretty good job.

by Anonymousreply 14June 24, 2024 6:49 AM

Saw it yesterday and what a delightful little movie this is. It'll make your heart swell.

by Anonymousreply 15June 24, 2024 9:28 AM

MARY! @R15!

by Anonymousreply 16June 24, 2024 9:31 AM

Why am I not surprised that much like with "fun facts" the other day, you're using "Mary" incorrectly as well. Must be a language issue. Or, you know, being a queer for Palestine rotting your brain just in general.

by Anonymousreply 17June 24, 2024 9:48 AM

I am not a Queer for Palestine. I actually support Israel and the JEWS!

by Anonymousreply 18June 24, 2024 9:50 AM

She's a poor man's Zelda Rubinstein.

by Anonymousreply 19June 24, 2024 10:35 AM

Saw it yesterday. It was enjoyable, but it’s not going to win any awards. The best actor in this movie is Richard Roundtree. June Squibb is wooden - I wish Carol Burnett had gotten the part.

by Anonymousreply 20June 24, 2024 10:44 AM

She’s supposed to be 90 and has a 24 year old grandson? I know great grandson is a mouthful to say but that’s what it should be.

by Anonymousreply 21June 24, 2024 2:32 PM

I'd rather see June Squibb as Telma Hopkins.

by Anonymousreply 22June 24, 2024 3:37 PM

I enjoyed the movie but also realized I mix her up with Lois Smith.

by Anonymousreply 23June 30, 2024 9:54 AM

I thought it was a sweet and funny movie.

At my age, that is NOT A GOOD THING!

by Anonymousreply 25June 30, 2024 10:18 AM

How has no one mentioned how hilarious Parker Posey is in THELMA? And she looks fantastic!
