ALL the money is in streaming these days. The Oscars is one of the only reasons movies are released in theaters besides popcorn blockbusters.

It is simply false to equate movies or series released on streaming platforms to the old tv vs. movie star hierarchy.

There are still many leading Hollywood men who do not do series, hun.

R17 Butler’s post-Elvis choices have been uniformly bad. He should not have taken Dune where he is playing second fiddle to Chalamet. The Bikeriders was pulled two weeks ahead of its theatrical release by Disney and will likely go straight to Hulu. No one wants another WWII miniseries.

Two decades ago, a male actor coming off a hot debut would have immediately been cast in a Steven Spielberg film (Matt Damon in Private Ryan, Jude Law in AI, Colin Farrell in Minority Report, Eric Bana in Munich). They would not be doing television.

Movies don't pay as much as they used to for top actors. Gone are the 20/25 million dollar payouts to start in a film. And a lot of them promise backend deals which are hard to chase down. Streaming doesn't pay backend - it's all money upfront. So more big name actors are doing streaming because that is where the cold hard cash of movie's-yesteryear still exists.

Oh, and Dune covered up his good looks. You look good in your first big studio film, you look good in your second. Chris Pine in Unstoppable, Chris Hemsworth in Snow White & the Huntsman, Henry Cavill in Man from UNCLE. Not hits, but it teaches the public what to expect.
