The Galloping Gourmet is back!! Hello, all
I'm back! I have been on an Internet hiatus for a large part of 2023, doing some inner work and trying to recover from a whirlwind 2022. More books, more contemplation, more quiet time for cooking. I will host a modest dinner party for 12 on New Year's Eve at my new home on the Upper West Side, finally, after years toiling beneath 14th Street!!
The menu is a dilly: clams casino, shrimp cocktail, pumpernickel toasts and salmon, my own homemade chopped salad with provolone cubes, swordfish with a tomato mousse, and a rich chocolate fudge cake with pistachio sauce!! All clear alcohol: champagne, white wine or gin (or of course seltzer).
I wish everyone at DL a wondrous and GOURMET 2024.

r2, Thank you so much! I used to post here quite a bit, and then someone USURPED my name and began posting the most flagrant idiocies! It is nice to be back among my DL pals.

Can't be Graham Kerr, because he's an alcoholic. He always reminded me of the tall British guy on "The Jeffersons."

Hi GG! We've missed you and it's so good to have you back.
Dumb question: Your meal sounds delicious, but what if one of your guests didn't like or is allergic to seafood?

I'm curious why NYE menus are always so seafood-heavy. I will eat some sushi and don't mind lobster, but would never go out of my way to order lobster. Clams, oysters and most fish don't taste good to me at all. I also don't like lamb, even though I've tried it throughout the years as tastebuds do change. The only salmon I've ever liked was what i was served on the docks in Alaska last year, but I will eat the occasional tuna sandwich. That's about it for me in terms of seafood. I've also had baby shrimp in salads and fried rice, but again, wouldn't be something I'd go out of my way to order.
All that aside, is there some reason why NYE menus tend to be so seafood-focused?

Because New Yorkers have more diverse palates than your babytastes, R9.

Excuse me, r10. I lived in NY for 10 years. I also was born in Hawaii, grew up in Southern California and now live in Northern California. My parents were both excellent cooks that prepared Greek, Mexican, Cantonese, Italian food from scratch my entire childhood. Canned and processed foods weren't allowed in our house, and we grew our own vegetables and raised most of our protein sources as well.
I don't have "babytastes," asshole.

^^forgot to mention i lived in San Francisco for 2 years as well, and also lived in Los Angeles for 5 years. I've eaten all kinds of food and cuisine. And liked it.

Typical Californian, long paragraphs about me me me as if anyone is interested and repressed anger bubbling to the surface the second they’re called out. Have a clam or some lamb, R12.

Laughing that you consider those "long" paragraphs. Shows your (lack of) intelligence that you can't pay attention long enough to read a few sentences.
Move along, little man.

Animals?
We just call them protein sources now? Soulless.

What a bunch of immature, blithering idiots on this thread. You refuse to answer a valid question, and instead name-call or throw out over-used and trite quotes.
Fuck off, I refuse to participate anymore on the thread. It's clear there's no one of value to converse with anymore.
Also, I've always been a supporter of you, Greg. I can see that support was ill-advised now.

Lovely menu and a delightful host. But I don’t like swordfish at all, despite loving just about any other fish. So I would have to just pick at it and move it around on my plate.

Nice to hear from you, GG. Your menu sounds fab and the super impressed with himself California guy who grew his own protein, is a dolt.
