Lauren Boebert switches congressional districts, avoiding a Democratic opponent

DENVER (AP) — Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert announced Wednesday she is switching congressional districts, avoiding a likely rematch against a Democrat who has far outraised her and following an embarrassing moment of groping and vaping that shook even loyal supporters.

In a Facebook video Wednesday evening, Boebert announced she would enter the crowded Republican primary in retiring Rep. Ken Buck's seat in the eastern side of the state, leaving the more competitive 3rd District seat she barely won last year — and which she was in peril of losing next year as some in her party have soured on her controversial style.

Boebert implied in the video that her departure from the district would help Republicans retain the seat, saying, "I will not allow dark money that is directed at destroying me personally to steal this seat. It’s not fair to the 3rd District and the conservatives there who have fought so hard for our victories.”

“We have to protect our majority in the House," she said.

Boebert called it “a fresh start,” acknowledging the rough year following a divorce with her husband and video of her misbehaving with a date at a performance of the musical “Beetlejuice” in Denver. The scandal in September rocked some of her faithful supporters, who saw it as a transgression of conservative, Christian values and for which Boebert apologized at events throughout her district.

She already faced a primary challenge in her district, as well as a general election face-off with Democrat Adam Frisch, a former Aspen city council member who came within a few hundred votes of beating her in 2022. A rematch was expected, with Frisch raising over $7.7 million so far to Boebert's $2.4 million.

Instead, if Boebert wins the primary to succeed Buck she will run in the state's most conservative district, which former President Donald Trump won by about 20 percentage points in 2020, in contrast to his margin of about 8 percentage points in her district.

“It’s the right move for me personally, and it’s the right decision for those who support our conservative movement. This is the right move for Colorado, for us,” Boebert said in her video.

Boebert rocked the political world by notching a surprise primary win against the incumbent Republican congressman in the 3rd District in 2020 when she ran a gun-themed restaurant in the town of Rifle, Colorado. She then tried to enter the U.S. Capitol carrying a pistol and began to feud with prominent liberal Democrats like Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Her constituents wearied of her antics, however, and in 2022 almost handed the seat to Frisch in a district that had a tradition of electing low-key pragmatists. This year was even rougher for Boebert following the disclosure of the video from the musical in Denver, for which she apologized.

So, it’s more about her than the people she represents

by Anonymousreply 1December 28, 2023 2:16 AM

Surely this trashy cunt won't be re-elected?

by Anonymousreply 2December 28, 2023 2:17 AM

She promises IF she wins in the new district she will move there, believe her?

by Anonymousreply 3December 28, 2023 2:24 AM

You can't just pick whatever district you want to run in. They could refuse to put her on the ballot, I suppose, if she doesn't meet residency requirements.

by Anonymousreply 4December 28, 2023 2:33 AM

How on earth is she considered "conservative?" Just because she's a racist homophobe??

by Anonymousreply 5December 28, 2023 2:35 AM

Yes R5. Those are some of the main requirements of conservatives these days.

by Anonymousreply 6December 28, 2023 2:37 AM

She'll be moving from Utah to Kansas or Nebraska

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 7December 28, 2023 2:47 AM

R4 you don’t what you’re talking about. Yes, she can. All she has to do is establish residency by Election Day in the State in which her district is located, per Article I, Section 2, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution.

by Anonymousreply 8December 28, 2023 3:32 AM

She has no skills and is totally unqualified for anything except Applebee's hostess. So of course she needs to do all she can to keep that congressional paycheck.

by Anonymousreply 9December 28, 2023 3:35 AM

Applebee's has hostesses?

by Anonymousreply 10December 28, 2023 3:39 AM

Whatever the fuck she’s up to, I’m loving that her apple cart is tipping over. Piece of shit through and through

by Anonymousreply 11December 28, 2023 3:39 AM

R8, I mentioned residency requirements. But thanks for the unnecessary constitutional tutorial.

by Anonymousreply 12December 28, 2023 3:45 AM

You just have to live in the state you run in. You could live in Brooklyn for example and run for the congressional seat based in Buffalo.

by Anonymousreply 13December 28, 2023 3:48 AM

R12 Don’t bitch at me because you don’t know that the Constitution sets out the only applicable residency requirement here. There is no other residency requirement. Duh.

by Anonymousreply 14December 28, 2023 3:50 AM

What a whore

by Anonymousreply 15December 28, 2023 3:57 AM

R14 what part of "if she doesn't meet the residency requirements" do you not understand? That was a conditional statement. "If...then..." But whatever.

by Anonymousreply 16December 28, 2023 3:59 AM

Don’t be disingenuous. Own up to your ignorance.

Quote: “You can't just pick whatever district you want to run in.” R4 clearly thought there was a district residency requirement. There is no such requirement. Full stop. F-off

by Anonymousreply 17December 28, 2023 4:10 AM

Fine. I bow down to you. You are the foremost Constitutional scholar on DL. I submit to your superior Google skills.

by Anonymousreply 18December 28, 2023 4:17 AM

by Anonymousreply 19December 28, 2023 4:21 AM

[quote]a divorce with her husband

Divorce? I missed this news. I missed her being kicked out of Beetlejuice too.

[quote]How on earth is she considered "conservative?"

The definition of Conservative has evolved a lot in recent years, R5. Imagine a 36-year-old, newly divorced, grandmother who was kicked out of Beetlejuice the musical for vaping, groping, and yelling being considered a "Conservative" even 10 years ago.

R18 Google might be a good starting point for your future posts. Less messy.

I’m no scholar, but I did manage to pass my Government class in 10th grade. It wasn’t too difficult.

by Anonymousreply 21December 28, 2023 4:26 AM

Wtf? This is what she wore to Beetlejuice?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 22December 28, 2023 4:29 AM

I lost graciously. You said she can run anywhere she wants in Colorado. I mistakenly assumed that because there have been so many scandals and headlines about members of Congress not actually living in the district they claim to represent that it was somehow not allowed. I was wrong. Go about your business. Is that sufficient for you?

by Anonymousreply 23December 28, 2023 4:32 AM

Cleanup in Aisle 3…

by Anonymousreply 24December 28, 2023 4:33 AM

But I will add that political parties are private organizations and can make any rules they like as to who is eligible for the ballot as a Republican. She can run as an Independent, but the Republicans don't have to let her on the ballot.

by Anonymousreply 25December 28, 2023 4:35 AM

I think we're missing the good news here.

Her District will likely be represented by a DEMOCRAT in 2025, which means we'll probably gain one more seat in the House of Representatives.

Yay!

by Anonymousreply 26December 28, 2023 4:49 AM

Not according to election guru Dave Wasserman, R26.

The prediction is that GOP would sit it out rather than vote for her. But with ANY other Republican, in. a +9 district, the chances of it staying red increase.

by Anonymousreply 27December 28, 2023 4:53 AM

R25 at this point you are just making a complete idiot of yourself. Keep up the good work. And you may not think Google is your friend, but you really should try it before posting more of this bullshit about running for the House.

by Anonymousreply 28December 28, 2023 6:12 AM

The one and ONLY residency requirement is the one in the Constitution.

Legitimate question: how was Joe Crowley allowed to represent NY-14, then, if he lived in Virginia? Was he a NY state resident prior to/at the time of the/each race, and then afterward, once in office, he moved away (I know he served several terms)? Can one just up and roll out like that once seated?

by Anonymousreply 32December 28, 2023 7:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 33December 28, 2023 7:58 AM

Lauren Boebert (R-Whore).

by Anonymousreply 34December 28, 2023 9:34 AM

The Front Range ranchers will have even less tolerance for her rampant whoring than her current district. She’s a cunt with no husband, no shame, and no marketable skills beyond slutting it up for coin. They can do better.

by Anonymousreply 35December 28, 2023 10:33 AM

R32. What? He was a resident of Queens. The fact that he maintained a second place in or near D.C. for convenience as a member of the House did not change that fact. Most House members and Senators have second place in or near D.C. —

Occasionally there’s a kerfuffle about whether they may have effectively severed their residency in their home state (a la Mark Meadows) but that is more of a political question left to the voters. Residency in a state can mean nothing more than a present intent to remain in said state—voter registration is one basic way to indicate such intent.

by Anonymousreply 36December 28, 2023 10:56 AM

She'll be portrayed as a carpet bagging opportunist by her opponents, in addition to using all the ammo she has generously provided. It's a crowded field, so she'd better be prepared to take a lot of hits.

She's a slut.

And Lauren wasn't at the show to watch the musical numbers.

She was on a date to get fucked. Hence, the slutty outfit. That's also why she wasn't paying attention.

Bobo was probably acting like a silly school girl, in hopes of impressing her date.

How sad that she still has the mentality of a horny teen girl.

[quote]House of Representatives members do not need to live in the district they represent.

[quote]"The good people of Western and Southern Colorado didn’t wait for an election to beat Lauren Boebert — we scared her straight and chased her out of her own district. With this carpetbagging move, Lauren Boebert has shown herself to be everything she claims she isn’t: a typical swampy politician looking for a reason to call Washington D.C. home," Murib said in the statement.

by Anonymousreply 56December 28, 2023 4:23 PM

I'm from around there. The district where she is moving is also home to the county, which is also the most populous one in the district, that got taken over by right-wing assholes. Over the past 2-3 years they have found out that their ideology gets nothing done and the people that live there are pissed.

It won't go D, but she will not fare well against the more centrist candidates that are running as R in the next election cycle. Plus, the demographic of that district is rapidly changing. The northern parts are shifting left, the farmers were burned by the current rep, and people are just fed up with the morality politics and not voting at all.

But maybe she will get DL fave Shane Dawson to run her campaign. He lives down there now.

by Anonymousreply 58December 28, 2023 5:32 PM

The GOP is trying to cut its losses now in the face of dwindling fundraising 📉 . They know she's no longer supportable or electable in her district. They've got less money to give to candidates, so this was triage by the NRCC and momentary face-saving for Boebert. It was calculated knowing they have a stronger chance of keeping her seat if she's out of the picture. Yup, she got a talking to.

The RNC also has fundraising problems. It's reported to have only ~ $8M I'm its coffers, a little over 10% of what it had at its peak during Trump’s time. This is really going to hurt them down ticket

[QUOTE]The National Republican Congressional Committee raised slightly over $5 million in October, according to a filing Monday with the Federal Election Commission.

[QUOTE]That’s about half of what it raised at the same point in past off-year cycles: around $10 million in October 2019 and $9.8 million in October 2021. And it’s the committee’s third-lowest fundraising month of this year, after the traditionally difficult fundraising months of January and August.

This should be interesting. Do you think she'll be prepared and up-to-date about the new district's issues to substantively debate at the Republican Women of Weld and the Lincoln Club-sponsored event?

This really is going to be do or die for her. She can't afford to lose her $180k Congressional salary. She's divorced from the hubby who makes upwards of $400k in the oil industry and did not ask for spousal support. Her only notable employment was running a restaurant so poorly that servers sometimes went unpaid and she did not pay a tax lein until she falsified travel records to charge for her campaign for untravelled miles for nearly the exact amount as the lein.

I hope they hammer the entitled bitch.
