Once again Datalounge loses the plot. At Wikipedia, "guilty pleasure" is defined as follows:

[Quote] A guilty pleasure is something, such as a film, a television program, a piece of music, or an activity, that one enjoys despite understanding that it is not generally held in high regard, or is seen as unusual or weird.

The songs identified by Erykah Badu, Lady A, Celine Dion, Brownstone and ONJ are rendered with too much artistry and musicality to be "guilty pleasures."

by Anonymousreply 85December 16, 2023 4:40 AM

Yay! all my responses, per r85 definition, are guilty pleasures.

All others are just shit. 🙄 and/or masterpieces.

whatever, nevermind. Also, maybe shut up.

Yeah, I know it’s Meatloaf, and it’s 7:41 long, but hey, I still rock out to it in the car at elementary school afternoon pickup. It drives the uptight conservative Moms berserk. And they stay the fuck away from me, way the hell away.

Thank you, r125! "Centipede" is a great guilty pleasure because:

(1) It's written by Michael Jackson, so the lyrics are nonsense and (2) Most of the vocals are by Martha Wash, not Rebbie Jackson

by Anonymousreply 213January 12, 2024 8:41 PM

^^ ^ And on that tip, a song MJ wrote for Donna Summer (a songwriter) but she laughed so hard he had to give it to LaToya. A perfect guilty pleasure.

[quote]The A's - After Last Night

OMG, I just researched them. They were a Philly band that formed in 1978 and was dissolved in 1982. They did two albums for Arista, but they never really caught on nationally. One of the band members went on to form the Peace Creeps. Funny thing is, I saw them at The World Cafe in Philly about six years ago. My date and I thought they were really good and thought we were lucky to catch such a good band. We had never heard of them and I never knew of their connection to The A's. They put on a great show!

The only big name one to go to the LGBT event was Crystal Gayle & they adored her for it. Some name that snubbed them were Brenda Lee & The Judds.
