Who is this 90s/00s female singer who doesn’t want to perform any of her hit songs on tour?

According “Liz the Music Manager” on TikTok who participated in negotiations with a seemingly successful female singer who had hits in the 90s and 2000s, this performer wants to go on a 55 date world tour but not perform any of her hit songs from her popular era, and only do songs from her last two albums. According to Liz, this performers last two albums had no hits. Who is it?

How many hits did they ^^ actually have?

by Anonymousreply 6December 10, 2023 11:45 PM

Alanis Morissette or maybe Jewell

by Anonymousreply 7December 10, 2023 11:47 PM

Tori Amos

by Anonymousreply 8December 10, 2023 11:47 PM

This sounds a lot like Sheryl Crow, a forgettable performer with an ego the size of Nebraska.

by Anonymousreply 13December 10, 2023 11:52 PM

Madge.

by Anonymousreply 14December 10, 2023 11:54 PM

Alanis or Kelis.

by Anonymousreply 15December 10, 2023 11:56 PM

I think Madge learned her lesson in this tour!

by Anonymousreply 17December 10, 2023 11:57 PM

R16 what lesson?

by Anonymousreply 18December 10, 2023 11:58 PM

It is tentatively titled the Hurl Your Rotten Cabbage Tour.

by Anonymousreply 19December 11, 2023 12:02 AM

No, not PJ Harvey R13. She's doing her new album for half of the set and her hits for the second half.

by Anonymousreply 20December 11, 2023 12:02 AM

Yoko Ono

by Anonymousreply 21December 11, 2023 12:27 AM

It's not crazy Lauryn Hill, she only ever released the one album lol.

by Anonymousreply 22December 11, 2023 2:16 AM

My guess is Courtney Love. This sounds like something she'd do.

by Anonymousreply 23December 11, 2023 2:20 AM

Alanis

by Anonymousreply 24December 11, 2023 2:26 AM

Yeah, could be Courtney Love.

by Anonymousreply 25December 11, 2023 2:35 AM

Jewel.

Possibly Sarah Mclachlan. i always spell her name wrong, but i've seen her in concert twice and they were among the top 5 concerts i've been to in my longer life.

by Anonymousreply 26December 11, 2023 2:40 AM

Jewel did a lot of her older stuff in her tour earlier this year.

by Anonymousreply 27December 11, 2023 3:14 AM

Definitely not Tori Amos. I saw her twice last year and it was a greatest hits of of her 90's songs.

by Anonymousreply 28December 11, 2023 3:26 AM

This has Mariah Carey written all over it.

by Anonymousreply 29December 11, 2023 3:46 AM

R29 I think it’s Mariah too. No jokes aside. I just have a strong feeling it is her.

by Anonymousreply 30December 11, 2023 3:58 AM

If the clue has said 80s in addition to 90s and 2000s, I would say Madonna. She seems to not be fond of her older work. Not everything, but a lot of it. And I get the feeling she is resentful that the fans don't love her "new stuff" as much as she thinks they should.

Since it isn't her, based on the clues, I would go with Mariah. She probably can only "sing" the recent stuff, anyway, since most of it requires her whispering through it. Nobody buys that the 90s whistle tone is still there (except when piped in from backstage and lipsync'd.

by Anonymousreply 31December 11, 2023 4:14 AM

R31 ^ *had said, not has

by Anonymousreply 32December 11, 2023 4:16 AM

Mariah performs the Christmas song every year so I don’t think it’s her.

by Anonymousreply 33December 11, 2023 5:21 AM

It's not Mariah. Her current Christmas show has about 6 of her old album hits.

by Anonymousreply 34December 11, 2023 5:45 AM

Connie Francis

by Anonymousreply 39December 11, 2023 6:39 AM

It can't be Alanis...She just joined Pink onstage to sing u oughta know.....I doubt she would do that if she doesn't want to sing her old stuff

by Anonymousreply 40December 11, 2023 7:00 AM

Natalie Merchant

by Anonymousreply 41December 11, 2023 7:19 AM

Pat Benatar

by Anonymousreply 42December 11, 2023 7:25 AM

Pat Benatar is fabulous but was definitely late 70s and *very* 80s with her hits.

by Anonymousreply 43December 11, 2023 11:35 AM

That “What’s goin’ on” chick with the giant top hat.

by Anonymousreply 44December 11, 2023 11:36 AM

Fergie

by Anonymousreply 45December 11, 2023 11:37 AM

R41 Natalie Merchant just finished a tour and I doubt she would book it toward this long and also she plays her 90 stuff all the time however she doesn't play Maniac stuff almost ever except for these are days.

Tori loves all her girls so I doubt she'd ever refused to play any of her songs. Alanis comes to mind cuz she's doing a tour next year but I doubt it's her because she just did her big 20th anniversary of jagged Little pill and she doesn't seem at all cynical about her old stuff.

by Anonymousreply 46December 11, 2023 11:40 AM

Whitney’s hologram.

by Anonymousreply 47December 11, 2023 11:44 AM

I think it’s Jewel. She’s in that fauxmance with Kevin Costner to get her name back in the headlines ahead of a possible tour.

by Anonymousreply 48December 11, 2023 11:45 AM

I doubt it's Jewel because if you look at her output including her two Fisher Price albums shell play whatever will make her $$$$$.

by Anonymousreply 49December 11, 2023 1:32 PM

Susanna Hoffs

by Anonymousreply 50December 11, 2023 1:34 PM

Sheryl Crow. It will be called the “Bland & Deplorable” tour.

by Anonymousreply 51December 11, 2023 2:30 PM

Late ‘90s was literally the era of the female singer-songwriter, so it could be anybody. Most of them from that generation don’t have hits anymore and have dropped out of sight.

by Anonymousreply 52December 11, 2023 2:33 PM

And while you’re at it, why don’t you fuck Martika too!

The word "literally" contributes absolutely nothing to this sentence. Please reconsider it's usage.

The name is Lauryn Hill and to date she only has one CD.

by Anonymousreply 59December 11, 2023 4:41 PM

While I consider her to be an unlikely candidate for this, Sarah Brightman kind of fits. Most of her biggest selling pop and classical crossover albums were from the 90s and 2000s. Similar to what I said about Mariah Carey in an earlier post, her voice is not really what it used to be, due to age, so I could picture her preferring to perform songs from the last couple of new studio albums she did, which mostly avoided strenuous vocals, with a couple of exceptions here and there (and I suspect there was a lot of technology helping in those instances).

by Anonymousreply 60December 11, 2023 5:32 PM

Sheryl Crow is the only guess that makes sense.

Jewel didn’t really have any hits in the 2000s, aside from that “Intuition” song, her attempt as sexy Britney pop. And I think people only like that song ironically.

Alanis has been touring and doing festivals, playing all her hits.

by Anonymousreply 61December 11, 2023 5:45 PM

Might be Sarah McLachlan. She’s tired of being known as the voice of those abused animal commercials.

Fiona Apple and Khia were two more one-hit wonders that nobody has thought of in 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 69December 11, 2023 9:30 PM

It's not Sarah McLachlan. I just saw an email about her upcoming shows where she's doing Fumbling Toward Ecstasy in its entirety.

by Anonymousreply 70December 11, 2023 9:33 PM

That sounds incredible, R70. FTE was her best work.

by Anonymousreply 71December 11, 2023 9:41 PM

Janet Jackson

by Anonymousreply 72December 11, 2023 9:47 PM

It’s not fkin Toni Braxton. If he didn’t sing her 90s hit she would have no fucking hits to sing. It’s fkin Mariah Carey bougie ass. She lives in her own dreamworld. She doesn’t want to sing those 90 songs because of Tommy Mattola.

by Anonymousreply 73December 11, 2023 9:57 PM

Mariah Carey is already on tour right now. Her lazy ass lipsyncs that Christmas song, then she makes her kids come out and do the rest of the show while she gets drunk.

No one ever heard of that, R75. One hit wonder, as stated previously.

by Anonymousreply 76December 11, 2023 11:42 PM

Mariah always sings her signature songs like We Belong Together & Hero, she knows her fans want to hear the hits.

by Anonymousreply 77December 11, 2023 11:53 PM

Sarah Mc Laughlin?

by Anonymousreply 78December 11, 2023 11:55 PM

Half the women on this thread are currently on or planning tours where they're singing their old fucking songs.

The only songs that Lauryn Hill won't sing are pretty much all of them because she keeps showing up two hours late to all her current shows.
