"I hate being Turkish"
I know it is very strange, but I am now ashamed of being a Turk and this makes me very tired. I am ashamed of my race. I'm ashamed of the society I live in and I'm ashamed of speaking the same language as this society. I'm so tired, I don't know what to do anymore, I don't really know why I feel like this and now I hate my country, the place where I was born, I hate Turkey, I wish I was born in a place where the social intelligence is higher...

I live in Iraq , we are your southern neighbours and I feel the same thing about my country. it's very hard to live in a middle eastern society if you don't like their culture and traditions. the one thing that I really love about western countries is the individualism , they are free to live their life the way they like unlike us.

I encounter this sentiment often among ex-Muslims as well. Those societies are set up in a way that discourages too much deviation. Now that's tolerable for most people as long as you don't know what's going on on the other side of the planet. But once you log onto social media and you're constantly exposed to all the possibilities democratic countries have to offer, you see how stagnant and ossified your own culture/country is and you suddenly want more from life.

Dick jokes aside, this is actually very interesting. Turkey has a brief, very recent, and now largely dead history of wanting democracy. They have a longer history of wanting secular government. Erdogan hates all those things and just wants to be a typical Cunt for Allah. But enough Turks remain who long for other things. I hope they don't all despair and actually claim that other option, the secular, somewhat democratic country they were reaching for before.

I feel that way about America. Most people in the US are so painfully dumb it's actually mindboggling to even contemplate. They lead unexamined lives and just go from work to chain store to feedbag to home. They have little to no understanding of history or politics, or how decisions are made for their lives.
