Songs that always make you stop and just listen

I'm not necessarily talking about your most favorite song -- but rather a song that always makes you pause whatever you're doing and simply spend 3 minutes listening and enjoying whenever it pops up on the radio, pandora or whatever you have providing background music during the day. (Other than while driving, obviously.)

I usually have the 80's New Wave station KROQ-2 playing over Audacy, and always stop and turn up The Replacements "Alex Chilton" when it starts to play -- it give me a great mood and energy lift anytime I hear it.

It used to be Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush until it got popular from Strangers Things and overplayed.

Just the other day I heard r58’s Blue Bayou on Sirius XM. Fantastic song, but the line about “fishing boats, with their sails afloat” gave me pause. I don’t live near the ocean so maybe I don’t know, but fishing boats don’t have sails, do they?

by Anonymousreply 78December 12, 2023 12:51 PM

R71 It really is a beautiful album and coincidentally, I just listened to Rough Boys several times in a row the other day and posted the video to FB. It’s my favorite Townshend era, though I’m a huge fan of White City, too. Apropos of nothing, I would have totally boned Pete during that Empty Glass time - he was such a fuckup yet so hilarious and gifted and raw.
