This will work out very well for them.
MarketWatch: Trump wants to reimpose his travel ban that originally targeted seven Muslim-majority countries and expand it to “keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the country.” In the wake of the Hamas attack on Israel, he has pledged to put in place “ideological screening” for immigrants. His aim: bar “dangerous lunatics, haters, bigots, and maniacs,” as well as those who “empathize with radical Islamic terrorists and extremists.”

As others have pointed out on this thread, Muslims supporting Trump is highly counterintuitive, deeply against their own interests. This is less about the defects of Islam and more about the success of a coordinated, targeted online influence campaign - dezinformatsia - the same thing that helped Trump in 2016. The lessons of that election and that form of attack have evidently not been learned.

The Muslims discussing "abandon Biden" in the US and "abandon Labour" in the UK are not victims of a disinformation campaign. That's infantilising them and depriving them of agency. The racism of low expectations.

It's the Deplorables who will suffer most as their warehouse, factory, retail, restaurant, call center, etc. jobs dry-up. There will be miles-long waits at the food banks. Bankruptcies, evictions, repo's and foreclosures...

by Anonymous | reply 74 | December 8, 2023 2:35 PM |
I wish that liberals could look at and learn from conservatives when it comes to electoral politics. Conservatives routinely hold their noses and vote for the conservative — even when they hate the majority of what they propose and espouse — because conservatives know that they will get NOTHING from the opposition even when they vote for liberals out of a principled stance. Just look at Trump: he is literally the embodiment of everything conservatives say they abhor, whether it is two divorces and adultery throughout his life, his blasphemous rhetoric, his criming... but they got their SCOTUS picks and that's all that matters
Trump has said out loud that if he's re-elected, he will reimpose his Muslim ban. He said that he would invoke the Insurrection Act on day one to quell demonstrations (meaning he will order the US military to fire real bullets at American citizens exercising their First Amendment right to peacefully protest). He's already used Nazi tactics of family separation and put human beings in cages, getting away with it because the victims have brown skin. It is not mere conjecture to see that Trump will order the military to round up Muslims (and hispanics, Blacks, gays, the disabled... as many minority groups as he wants) and put them in concentration camps before either deporting them to their deaths or killing them outright.
I've set the Godwin's law aside and come to the conclusion that Trump is our Hitler with the potential of being far, far worse than Hitler ever was. Hitler didn't have the technology to kill millions with the push of a single button. Hitler ruled a small country with a far small population; Trump's MAGAt followers dwarf the population of Germany in the 1930s, and they're angry, afraid, armed to the teeth, and are willing to throw everything that truly made America great out the window with nary a thought. And Hitler faced the Axis powers in alignment against him, whereas there is no axis without the USA to stand up against Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | December 8, 2023 4:47 PM |
R75, nailed it. The left is more prone to eating their own. You see this all over twitter and reddit. Look at how whiny many of the Gen Z left are about Biden (regarding everything--his age, "centrism", etc.). You don't see right-wingers do that with Trump. They tend to keep their criticisms close to their chest and vote for him regardless.

by Anonymous | reply 79 | December 8, 2023 6:26 PM |
Of course I meant Allied powers, R77. I'm glad you agree with the gist, however. Thanks.
R76's take on left-leaning Gen Z whiners is spot on. Again, we have to look at how conservatives deal with issues as compared to liberals. Conservatives hold their noses and vote; liberals whine and stay home. And that's why we have someone like Trump wreaking havoc and working to bring the American way of life to a bloody, violent end.
For those of us who pay attention, it's devastating that the electorate is so evenly split when the reality is the country is really quite liberal, but the biggest block of voters is those who don't vote or at least don't vote regularly. The right sees this and after 50 years of telling us that government is the problem and there's no point in trying to fix it, they hold outsized power and do everything they can to ensure that government doesn't work (just look at the House, which has accomplished next to nothing since the Republicans took power) and don't even try to fix it.
And you'd think that people would look at how the country does under Democrats (prosperity, plentiful jobs, skillful management of the economy, social progress) as compared to Republicans (recession, job losses, never-ending tax cuts for the 1% at the expense of the 99%, and social regress complete with the rollback of fundamental rights) and vote for the party that does the best job for [italic]them.[/italic] But we get caught up in ridiculous right-wing bullshit like Hillary's emails or Joe Biden's age, never minding that there are far more egregious examples of the exact same activities coming from the right — whether it's that the Trump WH used non-government email accounts routinely and for everything, or the fact that Donald is only 3 years younger than Joe and in obviously far more advanced cognitive decline.
R77's criticism is rather on point, isn't it? I mean, he agrees with what I say and clearly understands the premise... but criticizes a slip of the tongue in confusing the WWII powers' names — and gets two WWs compared to a single (as of this writing) affirmation of what I wrote at R75. It rather proves my point as enhanced by R76's commentary: it's much easier to be a critic, complain and do nothing than accept our faults and work for progress.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | December 9, 2023 4:04 PM |
R80, I could not agree more, regarding left wingers and right wingers. The country as a whole is nowhere near as divided as we would believe but these people who whine and choose not to vote becaue of "reasons" continously give Republicans and edge they shouldn't have. And that's just national politics, let's not even get started on state and local races where turnout is pathetically low.
Maybe Trump will win, maybe Trump will get in office, and that, to open the eyes and ears of the rest of the public,
We tried that in 2016 and the results were disastrous and horrendous. The people who just couldn't bring themselves to vote for Hillary, and worse, those that said we needed to elect an "outsider" like Trump (spoiler alert: he was not an outsider) to "shake things up" suffered the most. Specifically I'm pointing at suburban women who just couldn't bring themselves to vote for Hillary because: 1) women hate successful, smart women; 2) they listened to the Fox/GOP noise machine that told them Hillary was somehow untrustworthy because emails.
To wit, we had a working compromise on abortion but suburban women decided Hillary's emails were more important than their right to control their bodies, and as a result we have a SCOTUS that has sent the country back 50 years already and is gunning to set us back to the pre-Civil War era. R92's point about the SCOTUS appointments that are coming between 2025 and 2029 are major. We will either have a balanced Court if Biden is re-elected, or if Trump manages to win by hook or by crook, we'll have a 8-1 court that just hands everything to the 1% (and by everything, I mean the GOP is our to steal Social Security, shutter Medicare, slash all social safety net programs, destroy higher education, empower Nazis and fascists, and bring an end to our experiment in democracy).
If there is a single cogent argument that everyone should understand — particularly after Dobbs — it is the SCOTUS appointments coming in the next administration. I'll guarantee they're talking about it (and getting heaps of donations) from church pews every Sunday.

The planned Dearborn, Mich., get-together was part of a Biden campaign “listening tour,” according to the Detroit News, and was expected to involve Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez and roughly a dozen Muslim and Arab American elected officials, office holders and community leaders.
When word of the scheduled summit got out, Wayne County deputy executive and meeting coordinator Assad Turfe canceled it, because of community “outrage.”
“Unless something drastic happens, you have lost the Arab American and Muslim community,” Turfe told the outlet of the community’s feelings toward the 81-year-old president. “At this point, from what I can see, there’s no winning them over. That was the idea of the meeting.”
“Until there’s a cease-fire, the overall consensus in the community is they’re not welcome here, essentially,” he added.
Dearborn Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud, a Democrat, said he was invited to attend the meeting but has no interest in speaking with Biden campaign officials until Israel’s military operations in Gaza are halted.
“The lives of Palestinians are not measured in poll numbers,” Hammoud wrote on X. “Their humanity demands action, not lip service. When elected officials view the atrocities in Gaza only as an electoral problem, they reduce our indescribable pain into a political calculation.”
“I will not entertain conversations about elections while we watch a live-streamed genocide backed by our government,” he added.

Are there enough Muslims in any state to make any difference in an election?
by Anonymous | reply 106 | January 28, 2024 7:07 AM |
There is of course the view that Muslim extremists disowning the Democrats will make a lot of moderates see that as a positive.
The far left and muslim groups have been attacking Keir Starmer and Labour for their identical position to the Democrats and they're on course for a landslide victory.

Exactly. No party of politician should pander to any specific minority, especially religious minorities.

by Anonymous | reply 113 | February 2, 2024 6:06 PM |
R113 - there's double the amount of Jews in the US vs Muslims. And there's more Jews in swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Florida.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | February 2, 2024 6:08 PM |
But I wonder what percentage of progressive voters under 40 are pro-Palestine? They could possibly make more of a difference than Muslims or Jews. And for that matter, isn't Bernie against Netanyahu and his right wing regime in Israel?
by Anonymous | reply 115 | February 2, 2024 6:20 PM |
There is broad support for Israel in the US. There is most certainly NOT broad support for the hardcore Pro-Palestine nuts.
Beyond the fact - this election isn't going to tilt based on what is going on in Gaza.
Muslim leaders can piss up a tree.

No, R3 / OP, they knew it wasn't a muslim ban. They didn't fall for the msm bullshit. So many Democrats are manipulated so totally by the NYTs, WaPO, Rachel Maddow, etc. Yes, it happens on the right, but that's to be expected. So many Democrats believe we are the best, most compassionate and brightest, ain't true.
Frankly, we'd learn a lesson from what Europe is going through now. It is only going to get much worse.
A January Harvard Harris poll showed that 80 percent of voters backed Israel over Hamas, including 57 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds and 70 percent of 25- to 34-year-olds.
It would be idiotic for Biden to pander to Muslims. They aren't on the winning side of this issue.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | February 2, 2024 6:38 PM |
It would be a little more illuminating for the poll to say what percent of Democratic-leaning voters back Israel over Palestine. It's not about supporting Hamas - it's supporting the victims in Gaza, whose plight is plastered on our screens 24-7.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | February 2, 2024 6:40 PM |
These people do understand that Trump hates Muslims and would gladly turn Gaza into a parking lot using American aircraft carriers currently in the region, right? Not only that, he would surround himself with evangelical cooks who are salivating at the prospect of actively ushering in the Armageddon.
Cutting off the nose to spite the face. Of course, I suspect the real reason goes way beyond Gaza and has more to do with Biden's socially progressive policies and values.

Exciting times, honestly. It puts into perspective the big decisions being made over our heads: coalition strength vs securing capitalist interests abroad. Every choice carries consequences. It could be argued that capitalism needs a coalition to keep from spiraling out of control, but also that the coalition invariably needs capitalism to exist. Neither will fully win or lose; it's all in the murky gray. It makes for nice poetry.

Which means supporting Hamas. If you are obsessively seeing it on your screen 24/7, that’s on you. I don’t have cable and so no cable news, and I don’t see it on my screen 24/7. There’s a lot of foreign news stories every day and the daily events of Israel rooting out terrorism in Gaza is just one of them.

This thread is a joke by faux liberals isn't it?
There are less than 4 million Muslims in the USA, probably only some 2.3 or 2.4 million of them care enough to vote.
Thinking that ALL of them are suddenly going to vote republican and be the cause that democratic party will possibly lose is pathetic.
Plus is not a secret that a lot of Muslims are conservative... Why are they suddenly being seen as the salvation of democrats?
WHITE FRAUS on the other hand may represent the difference between democrats winning or losing, given that there are more than 120 million of them if we count the White Hispanic crowd. And there shouldn't be so many of them willing to vote republican at any cost.
Gays also outnumber Muslim voters, but DL is full of log cabin queens and rightwing lesbians.

WARREN, Michigan (AP) — President Joe Biden chatted with a friendly union crowd inside a United Auto Workers hall in Michigan on Thursday as pro-Palestinian demonstrators held back by police with riot shields voiced their anger nearby at the president’s full-throated support for Israel in its war with Hamas.
“Why not have a meaningful conversation for how you change course with a community that has first-hand accounts of what it’s like to live in the countries where your decision-making is unfolding?” said Abdullah Hammoud, the mayor of Dearborn, one of the largest Arab American communities in the nation.
The president’s motorcade bypassed them using side streets.
Protesters chanted “𝑯𝒆𝒚 𝑩𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏, 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒂𝒚? 𝑾𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒗𝒐𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝑬𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑫𝒂𝒚” as well as pro-Palestinian slogans, including “Free, free Palestine.”

by Anonymous | reply 136 | February 4, 2024 11:12 AM |
Neither party is a natural home for them. Muslims, like many other Americans, are more likely to be voting against someone or against a party than for someone. In this cycle, it appears that the Muslims of Michigan will vote against Biden and that may give Michigan to Trump. There’s no point in being completely unhinged about it. Biden doesn’t have to win Michigan to win the election and it's not like Michigan has never gone Republican before.

Perhaps because they are the ONE AND ONLY non-xenophibic and non-islamophobe party.
