I sprinkle a little psyllium on it, some frozen blueberries or strawberries, a little dab of butter, and some honey. I chase it down with about 6 oz of soy milk. I find this sort of breakfast gets my day off right. It's a bit complicated to do it when traveling, but I manage by microwaving in a hotel room.

I eat my first meal anywhere from 11AM to 4PM, it is often some oatmeal with raisins sometimes other things. I normally have a very small snack around 9 PM and then I am done. I use to never be able to go that long without eating but something changed and now I can, I have no idea what changed just glad it did. Most days are oatmeal first, spinach salad second meal and rice cakes for the snack or a small bowl of Honey nut Cheerios.

by Anonymous | reply 57 | December 4, 2023 10:25 PM |
Depends on how my stomach is doing. I have GERD and at times it's bad.
Coffee, Diet Coke, or Hot or Iced Tea (the tea being mild in order of stomach issues) - worst case scenario: diet 7 up or just hot water.
Some protein - either turkey sausage patties, vegetarian ones, occasionally sausage links or bacon, sometimes 1 or 2 hard boiled eggs, sometimes chopped with Earth balance, others plain. No carbs usually
If stomach is really iffy, a shrimp cup noodles.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | December 4, 2023 10:32 PM |

R59 I can't eat fruit due to my IBS. I eat a lot of vegetables for lunch and dinner, except for broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts/cabbage. Those are no-nos. Nuts, seeds and legumes are not good for people who have a family or personal history of diverticulitis and I have it on both sides of the family. I start the day with protein as a rule, keeps hunger down. My cholesterol is great without medication.

Op, just some unsolicited advise. Waiting 90 minutes after waking up allows adenosine levels to rise slightly, making caffeine more effective at blocking receptors and keeping us alert throughout the day.
My typical workday morning breakfast is low carb and sugar:
1 Three Wishes cereal, with organic blueberries and unsweetened Malk almond milk.
2 Mushroom coffee with Laird non-dairy coffee creamer
3 Handful of macadamia nuts and/or pecans.
4 One small square of Hu dark chocolate

Three days out of the week, it's cold cereal; the other 3 days it's some kind of carb, like a toasted bagel, English or blueberry muffin. I will have eggs maybe 2x a month, but in the last 6 months, eggs have started to make me feel nauseous after eating them so they don't make it on the menu as often. It's puzzling this is happening at this age. Maybe 6 times a year I will make grits or cream of wheat, for a change of pace. I impulsively bought a waffle iron (classic-style, not Belgian) about 2 months ago, but they just don't tase the same as the ones I remember as a kid. I think it's that non-stick coating that makes the outside hard. Oh well
Sunday is always pancakes and sausage while I do the Times crossword puzzle.

I use a whole organic lemon, wash it, cut it in half, put the two halves in the blender with a glass of cold water and two Stevia packets and blend it for 1 minute, pour into a large glass and drink it as is. The benefits of ingesting an entire lemon with the skin, pulp, seeds and juice are amazing. I do this twice a week.

Now that I've retired, I usually make myself an egg. And I have one meal in the middle of the day -- brunch -- instead of breakfast or lunch. So basically I make myself something that looks like an Egg McMuffin. Or I make a sandwich.

Steel cut oats are the same as Irish oats or Scotch oats. Steel-cut just refers to the types of machine blades that cut the raw oats into tiny dices. They tend to cook up with more chewy texture than rolled oats, which are steamed and then flattened. Instead of cooking steel cut oats, which can take a long long time to cook and variable in texture after that, I actually cook bulgur wheat (which has a very similar texture but cooks much faster) and mix it with quick oats. I get the nice oat flavor, I get the chewy texture, but I don't have to cook it for 1 hour.

I usually eat between 10 AM and 110 AM. I bought some honey smoked salmon at Costco, slightly less than a pound, and I've had three servings of it on various days, along with high fiber, multi grain bread, toasted and slathered with cream cheese, sliced red onions, and Campari tomatoes. It was delicious, and I washed it down with Green tea.

First thing in the morning, Drink Water. If possible, with lemon. We've been dry all night. Don't shock your body with coffee first.

This morning i made a batch of my "doctored" bacon: on a parchment covered baking sheet, lay pieces side by side, sprinkle liberally with fresh ground pepper, garlic powder and dehydrated onion bits (i was out, so opted for onion powder instead. Bake at 400 degrees for about 18 minutes or until desired crispness is achieved.
I toasted some homemade bread to have with said bacon and began to prepare an egg...cracked it and (i've NEVER had this happen before in all my 54 years), it came out fucking black and rotten and stinking into the pan. Ugh, what a shock and i was so disgusted, i lost my appetite for anything other than the buttered toast and coffee.
I put the bacon away for another time and threw out all the eggs in my fridge (bought a new dozen later in the day).

I have a cup of hot oatmeal every day. I’ve been doing this for a few months to see if I can get my cholesterol down without having to go on a statin. In the rare instance that I don’t have the oatmeal for breakfast, I will have it for dinner or right before bed.

Lately I have been making savory oatmeal using unsalted chicken or vegetable stock. Often with a hard boiled egg chopped up in it.
