Pati’s Mexican Table

This is one of those cooking shows I always tune into when I’m channel surfing. The little girl voice can get a little grating, but she comes across as charming and has the loveliest smile.

I also enjoy her trips to Mexico amongst the locals. Anybody else like her?

by Anonymousreply 50September 26, 2024 1:48 AM

Not really. She won't make it until she opens up a Patibertos in Southern California.

by Anonymousreply 1December 3, 2023 5:21 AM

Si, she seems authentic in her enthusiasm for cooking Mexican food.

I don’t think we’ve ever seen her husband. Wasn’t he some diplomat?

The kids are cute enough.

by Anonymousreply 2December 3, 2023 5:47 AM

Love her show and cookbook. Loved the episode when she took one of her kids to a Whole Foods and he taught her how to pick the perfect bag of tortilla chips, feeling them to make sure there was enough air in the bag, looking in to make sure all the chips weren’t broken. He was little and it was the sort of thing you’d let a little kid show you and she was so sweet, and it was ridiculously silly. But you got instant loving mom vibes watching her humor her kid.

by Anonymousreply 3December 3, 2023 6:01 AM

Those boys can buttfuck me!

Do you think they are uncut?

by Anonymousreply 4December 3, 2023 6:04 AM

I watch it periodically and I like her. Her husband has been featured on a few episode. I think he's moderately handsome as well but obviously he's not young anymore. Those handsome children did not fall out of a tree. They are not ethnically Mexican though, as neither she nor her husband are from either a Spanish or mestizo background. They are both Jewish Mexicans whose parents fled Europe before WWII. (Hence the family name Jinich). So that probably answers the uncut question. I don't think they can have been raised in strictly observant households though, considering that most of her recipes include meat and cheese at the same meal, and she often cooks shrimp and pork.

she does look like blossom.

dad has bdf and mom has bdf.

the boys have bdf.

yum!

I love Pati's Mexican Table! It's just the sort of mindless, charming entertainment perfect for PBS. She travels to some very poor areas in Mexico & does a really good job of highlighting their culture, history & their local pride, when most Americans would take one look at the place & refuse to get out of the car, much less go hang out with them & eat their food. I've noticed she's increasingly integrating her sons, which isn't a bad thing because they are some good looking boys. My only complaint is that she's big on product promotion, but I guess those trips to Mexico don't play for themselves. I've tried a couple of her recipes, but Mexican food (not the typical bland American restaurant stuff) gives me killer heartburn. But she seems absolutely lovely.

by Anonymousreply 8December 3, 2023 10:23 AM

Yes. She and fat Lidia are two of my faves.

by Anonymousreply 9December 3, 2023 10:26 AM

R9, I love mannish, gruff Lidia.

by Anonymousreply 10December 3, 2023 10:58 AM

I cannot watch her. Loathe her voice. And she's not of Mexican stock. That would be like an American woman moving to China and telling the Chinese how to cook Chinese dishes.

Prefer the videos of that indigenous Mexican woman who prepares her dishes in Spanish outside.

by Anonymousreply 11December 3, 2023 11:22 AM
I cannot watch her. Loathe her voice. And she's not of Mexican stock. That would be like an American woman moving to China and telling the Chinese how to cook Chinese dishes.

No, it would be like 4 Americans moving to China, each couple having a child born in China, then those two Chinese born citizens of American descent having a child.

She’s a second generation Mexican. Her grandparents were European but both of her parents were born in Mexico as was she. You can’t discount her Mexican heritage because of where her grandparents were born.

Would you tell Julia Child that she had no business teaching Americans about French Cuisine because she was born in America? She was one of the most famous chefs serving French cuisine in history.

Take your ethnic purity bullshit and shove it up your ass. Or in your mouth. I don’t care.

by Anonymousreply 12December 3, 2023 12:04 PM

I enjoy her show and her little trips to Mexico to highlight a regional dish or drink.

Sundays on PBS I like watching her show, Lidia’s and Americas Test Kitchen.

by Anonymousreply 13December 3, 2023 12:10 PM

Droppo deado, r12.

by Anonymousreply 14December 3, 2023 12:11 PM
Authenticity not racial purity U woke idiot

I said ETHNIC purity, not racial purity. Ethnicity refers to her nation of origin and culture among other things., which is Mexican. Her race is pretty clearly White, but she is a White woman of Mexican origin.

So droppo deado yourself.

by Anonymousreply 15December 3, 2023 12:19 PM

Love Pati. One of the few chefs/cooks on TV that actually teaches you about food and how to prepare it and how to cook it. Most of them are useless in that way. And she's authentic and cooks authentic Mexican food. So many nowadays are inauthentic cooking inauthentic food (looking at you LB.)

And her children are very attractive. At least Alan is legal now, so I don't feel as guilty for finding him so attractive (while young.) . I think JooJoo may be gay.

by Anonymousreply 16December 3, 2023 12:31 PM

I love how this thread has inspired posters to debate ethnicity, ponder young men's circumcision status, and we have two bitches telling each other to drop dead!

by Anonymousreply 17December 3, 2023 12:35 PM

R17

Welcome to DL. Sometimes it's funny, mostly it's psychotic.

by Anonymousreply 18December 3, 2023 1:13 PM

Yeah, R16. Juju seems like a gayling.

by Anonymousreply 19December 3, 2023 9:09 PM

R19

Thanks for the correct spelling. Don't know where I got JooJoo.

by Anonymousreply 20December 3, 2023 9:19 PM

I like her cooking style and I enjoy her attention to detail. But her voice is like using broken glass as a Q-tip.

by Anonymousreply 21December 3, 2023 9:23 PM

R16, I don't know either. I only wrote it that way b/c u = oo in Spanish.

What's his full first name? The eldest is Allen, I think. Can't remember the middle one.

by Anonymousreply 22December 3, 2023 9:25 PM

Alan, Sami, and Julian. Sami's quite handsome, too, now that he's older.

So, yeah, JuJu not JooJoo.

by Anonymousreply 23December 3, 2023 9:32 PM
Sundays on PBS I like watching her show, Lidia’s and Americas Test Kitchen.

Totally agree, though I'd add to that New Norwegian Cooking. There's nothing "new" about their cooking and while I like fish, some of their dishes seem downright nasty, but I love it for the scenery and the people, who also seem like a bunch of oddballs (in a good, endearing way)

by Anonymousreply 24December 3, 2023 9:37 PM

I find Andreas Viestad (New Scan Cooking) oddly attractive and appealing.

I'm known for having odd taste in men.

by Anonymousreply 25December 3, 2023 9:42 PM

I miss frugalgourmet

by Anonymousreply 26December 3, 2023 9:56 PM

meh. her son is cute. her voice is ice-shearing and she's over-directed and over-excited about everything. It's annoying. You can tell if the camera wasn't on, these restaurants she visits wouldn't give a shit about anything......

by Anonymousreply 27December 3, 2023 10:03 PM

Jeff Smith was sued by 7 men for sexually molesting them while they worked at his restaurant.

by Anonymousreply 28December 3, 2023 10:05 PM

I love Pati's show and her recipes have turned out quite deliciously. However, I have one minuscule complaint; I wish she would consider subtitles for the names of the various chiles (fresh, dried and canned) she uses, many of which are unknown north of the border. Okay, I lied - another complaint is Pati's inadequate directions for handling raw poultry hygienically; most seasoned cooks know this, but she must realize that many viewers are kitchen newbies.

I never miss an episode, and she has made me a convert to Mexican cuisine. It's cute, too, that all three sons inherited her ears and have not had them pinned.

by Anonymousreply 29December 3, 2023 10:37 PM

Rumor has it Pati's Mexican Floor is crawling with la cucarachas.

by Anonymousreply 30December 3, 2023 10:58 PM

porque no tiene

porque le faltan

enchiladas que comer!

by Anonymousreply 31December 3, 2023 11:00 PM

I wonder who would win in a showdown between Pati and Rick Bayless.

by Anonymousreply 32December 3, 2023 11:04 PM

Well, if your talking personality, Bayless is subterranean.

by Anonymousreply 33December 3, 2023 11:14 PM

I haven't watched PBS Saturday morning cooking in ages and this is a reminder to go back to it.

My partner and I comically mimic how she enunciates. Chee-lees and joooocy deeshes.

by Anonymousreply 34December 3, 2023 11:31 PM

R33, Pati would asphyxiate Bayless with a tamale husk.

by Anonymousreply 35December 4, 2023 12:34 AM

^^^ no...bayless would shove a poblano pepper down her throat and asphyxiate patty

by Anonymousreply 36December 4, 2023 2:11 AM

^^^ “… asphyxiates patty”

by Anonymousreply 37December 4, 2023 6:35 AM

Both are loathsome.

by Anonymousreply 38December 4, 2023 6:49 AM

R11: Pati speaks Spanish with a Mexico City accent. She kind of endearing that way.

by Anonymousreply 39December 4, 2023 7:13 AM

Rick Bayless is a thieving asshole. Don’t watch him.

by Anonymousreply 40December 4, 2023 7:54 AM

Let’s hear it, R40.

by Anonymousreply 41December 4, 2023 11:36 AM

Fuck you, R40, Rick brought Mexican food to the attention of the PBS viewers, which then propelled him and authentic Mexican food to greater success.

His infectious enthusiasm for Mexican food is a wonder to behold.

He showed that Mexican food wasn’t just calorie-filled stuff topped with cheese.

It’s nuanced, varied, complex and most certainly delicious.

He made liking and cooking Mexican food a cool thing.

by Anonymousreply 42December 5, 2023 5:20 AM

R42, I've made Bayless' enchiladas suizas. They're quite good!

R42

Two things can be right at the same time; he may be a wonder of the Mexican food world [bold]and[/bold] an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 44December 5, 2023 12:02 PM

El bumpo

by Anonymousreply 45December 11, 2023 9:55 AM

I love Pati (and her family.

Unlike certain other PBS cooking shows, Pati shares ingredient measurements with her viewers, and her website does not require subscribing in order to access her recipes.

Did I mention there is a "Pati's Mexican Table" marathon this 9/14/24 weekend? Enjoy!

by Anonymousreply 46September 15, 2024 5:34 PM

Why isn't "Juju" pronounced Hoo-Hoo?

by Anonymousreply 47September 15, 2024 5:45 PM

Bayless IS a thieving asshole.

by Anonymousreply 48September 15, 2024 8:11 PM

Well someone spill why he is a thieving asshole, then!

by Anonymousreply 49September 26, 2024 1:37 AM

She is charming but I like her in small, measured doses. She seems a bit pushy with her sons.
