Israel knew the attack was coming and did nothing

They’ve been waiting for an excuse to annihilate the Palestinian people for decades and no doubt were overjoyed to be given one.

Part 1: they had the plan at least a year ago. This is from the extremely pro-Israel NYT.

Of course they claim they thought it was just aspirational and wouldn’t actually happen, but that’s nonsense. See part 2 below.

Part 2: several days before the attack, the GIS (Egyptian secret service) warned the Israelis. Still, they did nothing. Why not? See above.

Everything about this war is a tragedy. I HATE suffering.

Bibi was distracted

This wasn’t part of a secret plan, at least not by the Israelis. It was hubris. When you have bad leadership, your whole organization starts making bad decisions.

If the Israelis had taken action without something like the October 7 attack having taken place, the world would be even more pro-Palestinian than it is today.

R6, Israel needed to defend its border with Gaza. It did not need to invade Gaza. It clearly had ways of anticipating Hamas attacks, but it failed to use them.

by Anonymousreply 7December 3, 2023 12:19 AM

Neither did Gaza need to invade Israel, r7.

by Anonymousreply 8December 3, 2023 12:23 AM

Yeah, bet it was hubris. People have praised the Israeli intelligence service and military as the best in the world for so long they started to believe the hype and got careless.

Sounds familiar. Remember people testifying in the 9/11 investigation how NOBODY could have predicted terrorists would fly a plane into a skyscraper? Of course it was predicted and warnings were ignored. We thought we were invulnerable and got careless.

At least they could have issued a security alert and cancelled the music festival. Brought some troops in close to the border fence.

Nonetheless, Bibi is going to take the fall for this, once the war is over. He was already hugely unpopular before and this happened on his watch.
