rep. virginia fox - workers who want overtime pay are just lazy and don't want to work

"Even though the hearing was about employees who work long hours, the GOP chair of the House Committee on Education & the Workforce took a moment to argue that too many Americans don’t want to work at all.

“There’s just a lot of people in this country that don’t want to work, period … and want other people to take care of them,” said Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.). Foxx added: “That’s not what this country is all about. We have great opportunities in this country for people to be successful, if they want to work hard.” The lawmaker’s statement came in response to testimony from Democratic witness Judy Conti, the director of government affairs for the National Employment Law Project, who’d said that many workers won’t put up with forced overtime these days.

“We see that workers are increasingly willing to — especially younger workers — are willing to leave jobs where they have to do mandatory overtime, especially where it’s uncompensated,” Conti had said.'

"U.S. overtime protections date back to the Great Depression, but over the years fewer and fewer workers have been eligible for them. That’s largely because of the low “salary threshold” — the salary below which workers have a legal right to overtime pay regardless of their job duties. The current rate is just $35,568 per year, but the administration wants to hike it to $55,068. Raising it would bring millions more workers under the law’s protections. The Labor Department estimates that the overtime proposal would put $1.3 billion of additional wages in workers’ paychecks. When the Labor Department announced the proposal, Foxx said it would “stifle workplace flexibility” and “lump burdensome costs on job creators.”"

I'd wager that Foxx has never worked a minute of overtime in her life.

by Anonymousreply 1December 2, 2023 6:40 PM

She's the reason the term rancid cunt was invented.

by Anonymousreply 2December 2, 2023 6:43 PM

80 year old Appalachian woman who get her degrees for 5 cents over 50 years ago wants to tell us about how people don't want to work - in a session about people working full time and not getting paid just for their overtime.

I'm so sick and tired of having to hear ANYTHING about life from these country, non-urban congressional members. Their provincial viewpoints with little to no real world experience outside of their little agricultural areas are stunningly ignorant and out of touch.

Sucks to be from there - but the rest of us living in cities and states that are actually CONTRIBUTING to the economy and culture of America can do without your input. Go back to Cracker Barrel and your main street parades.

When they complain about career politicians who are too old to understand modern society, are they referring to this?

by Anonymousreply 4December 2, 2023 7:02 PM

"Calling Grim Reaper. You have have a Rush job on line 1."

by Anonymousreply 5December 2, 2023 7:05 PM

People who talk and think like this are horrible pieces of shit.

If you talk or think like this, you are a horrible piece of shit. Just, the worst. You aren't a Christian. You aren't. You're disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 6December 2, 2023 7:07 PM

Forbes loves her.

by Anonymousreply 7December 2, 2023 7:08 PM

People don't want to work for no money.

by Anonymousreply 8December 2, 2023 7:09 PM

She's the eloquent woman who yelled "Shut Up" when Mike Johnson was questioned about his support for Trump and Jan 6.

by Anonymousreply 9December 2, 2023 7:13 PM

80 yo old with her mouth always hanging open. Kkklassy

by Anonymousreply 10December 2, 2023 7:19 PM

This old bitch works for the federal government, so she knows all about not wanting to work. Being a member of Congress requires about as much work as being on welfare.

by Anonymousreply 11December 2, 2023 7:19 PM

The GOP is rotten rotten rotten- anti-humanity.. Why the heck do they run for office? Revenge against all their enemies and those less than their imagined selves?

by Anonymousreply 12December 2, 2023 7:24 PM

Maybe bitter about the lack of indoor plumbing back home.

by Anonymousreply 13December 2, 2023 7:29 PM

I should clarify that being a member of Congress requires as much work as you want to put into it but clearly there is no 'minimum' work threshold. We have hardworking, principled legislators and then you have the ones who are completely disconnected and can't be bothered to show up and vote. Their low information constituents have no idea they are being ineffectively represented as long as the lazy, entitled Congressperson shows up on TV once a term for stupid reactionary soundbites like this old whore Foxx.

by Anonymousreply 14December 2, 2023 7:29 PM

A conservative wants to keep poor people from getting paid what they deserve? I'm shocked!

by Anonymousreply 15December 2, 2023 7:33 PM

This ancient bitch again?

by Anonymousreply 16December 2, 2023 7:42 PM

The least you could do is spell my widow's name correctly.

by Anonymousreply 17December 3, 2023 4:13 AM

she's a crazy senile hateful pile of old shit .........

by Anonymousreply 18December 4, 2023 12:42 AM

It seems to me that she was thinking of a relative when she made that statement.

by Anonymousreply 19December 4, 2023 2:10 AM

SHE IS TOO OLD TO BE IN OFFICE

by Anonymousreply 20December 4, 2023 2:33 AM

She’s a woman of her time.

by Anonymousreply 21December 4, 2023 2:38 AM

Many people are saying that Fox's mentee and protégé got into politics for precisely this reason. Elise Stefanik has family money and likes to pose by VIPs for attention, while not quite understanding the meaning of "work."

by Anonymousreply 22December 4, 2023 3:21 AM

Hmmmm...

She's a fossil who is too old to be in a position of power and influence. She can go on the list of people who are way overdue to drop dead like so many other US politicians. There should be an age or term limit.

by Anonymousreply 23December 4, 2023 3:40 AM

I dunno, r23. A low energy, elderly MAGAt is preferable to a youthful guy who stays up doing lines and colleagues' and business associates' wives before he does (or doesn't) show up for votes the next morning due to a hung over state. Such a modern GOP conundrum.

Or maybe Ginny Fox is doing rails with Matt Gaetz? Ya never know...

[Virginia] Foxx, a Republican who represents North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District (a region which includes Watauga County) reported dozens of assets ranging from $2,737,046 to $9,256,001 in 2013, giving her an average net worth of $5,996,523.50. The numbers are consistent with Foxx’s filing from 2012, which earned her a spot as the 68th-richest member of the 435-member House of Representatives.

Foxx reported multiple assets in excess of six figures, with nearly half-a-dozen rental properties in the Banner Elk area along with annuities and stocks. The congresswoman holds stakes in companies including Altria Group, AT&T, FedEx, Ford Motor Company and Six Flags. Unlike many of her House colleagues, Foxx reported zero liabilities to her name.

The totals for Foxx, along with McHenry and Meadows, don’t include any income (such as capital gains or dividends) generated by assets, nor do they include any dollars earned from their $174,000 congressional salary.

Thanks for sharing that information R25.

Maybe we should just start calling her Miss Rich Bitch.

by Anonymousreply 26December 4, 2023 7:52 AM

Avatar for hateful Republican meemaws forgot to take her pills today. Shouldn't her DL fans be crying for dementia meemaws to retire?

Doesn't she recall charging time-and-a-half when her waitressing gig at the last supper ran over?

by Anonymousreply 28December 6, 2023 8:06 PM

Cunt is a cunt is a cunt is a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 29December 6, 2023 10:12 PM

I rather be poor than work myself to death for a person who doesnt give a crap if I live or die as long as they stay wealthy

by Anonymousreply 30December 6, 2023 10:25 PM

Rancid, old, inbred, hillbilly cunt.

by Anonymousreply 31December 7, 2023 2:32 AM

She needs that face ironed.

And I should know.

by Anonymousreply 32December 7, 2023 3:43 AM

Is she supposed to be white?

by Anonymousreply 33December 7, 2023 4:39 AM

Interesting that she doesn't need to be prompted to scream shut up at a press conference, being rude and dumb is second nature.

But when presenting in Congress, she is forgetful and needs aid to compose her thoughts .

by Anonymousreply 34December 7, 2023 4:54 AM

Raggedy-mouthed old BAG, does she think she's somehow accomplished a thing on this earth except by dint of being white & not getting arrested in the 1950s & 60s?

by Anonymousreply 35December 7, 2023 4:55 AM

Can’t wait for this hillbilly gasbag to buy the farm.

by Anonymousreply 36December 7, 2023 5:04 AM

More evidence that there are far too many ancient skeletons currently in US politics who belong to an age long gone and never to return and now do deep harm to a modern society. They all need to go.

by Anonymousreply 37December 7, 2023 9:31 AM

Rep. Virginia Fox, still showing her "'o' face" at 80.

by Anonymousreply 38December 7, 2023 10:10 AM

Kudos to anyone who is consistent and is concerned with both Foxx’s and Biden’s age related issues. Jeers to the partisans who criticize Foxx but not Biden.
