Need to buy gift card. TIA.
Does anyone know where finance bros buy their clothes?
by Anonymous | reply 77 | December 2, 2023 3:01 PM |
The really rich ones buy their clothes at Brioni and Ermenegildo Zegna.
Brooks Brothers? J. Press? Paul Stuart is pretty expensive.
I don't really know but I had to put in my 2 cents worth anyways.

Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus if they're well off.
Walmart if they're not.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 1, 2023 1:19 PM |
Patrick Bateman liked Valentino and Armani.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 1, 2023 1:20 PM |
Ivy League NY finance bros or SF/Silicon Valley finance bros? Not the same.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 1, 2023 1:21 PM |
Gieves and Hawkes
Hugo Boss

by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 1, 2023 1:33 PM |
Okay R6. Which stores do you recommend?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 1, 2023 1:33 PM |
This look. Complete and utter conformity and sterility. I need this look.

A Patagonia vest if you're company has a Corporate social responsibility statement
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 1, 2023 1:43 PM |
I’ve already made my contribution —thank you ver much
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 1, 2023 1:48 PM |
Give an Amex gift card…why would you want to limit your gift to a single store when you don’t even have the first clue about which store that would be? You don’t sound like a very sincere gift giver.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 1, 2023 1:50 PM |
Lululemon or Vuori
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 1, 2023 1:52 PM |
R6, a guy who works in a creative field can wear an edgy suit. I'm pretty sure people who work in finance are expected to dress conservatively.
Ralph Lauren
Banana Republic
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 1, 2023 1:57 PM |
They do not dress up at all—that’s the point R16. Jeez.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 1, 2023 2:55 PM |
You are clueless r17. We aren't talking about some bay area tech start up. When you work in finance in NY you are absolutely expected to dress up for work, I see that crowd all the time.
The guy I dated had a lot of Charles Tyrwhitt and Suit Supply OP. Think those are common brands.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 1, 2023 3:06 PM |
Really, R17. Michael Kors is a creative person. He wears a suit. Tom Ford is a creative person. He wears a suit. Should I continue proving you wrong?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 1, 2023 3:06 PM |
R19 don’t be obtuse. R17 was commenting about finance douchebros.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 1, 2023 3:08 PM |
R18 I’ve worked in NYC finance for 30 years. I see more douchebros in one day then you’ll see in a year. But go on…and on…
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 1, 2023 3:10 PM |
The brands of the moment for the finance bros are Brunello Cucinelli and Loro Piana
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 1, 2023 3:11 PM |
Maybe you just don't know how to write clearly, R6, R17, R20. Maybe numbers are more your thing.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 1, 2023 3:30 PM |
Thanks to the people who suggested Lululemon, I popped in and they have the “corporate finance peon” look down to a T, we’re going with that.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 1, 2023 3:55 PM |
Yeah—that’s a gift that will keep on giving 🫣

You're welcome R24 OP!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 1, 2023 4:04 PM |
I live in the Midwest, I don't think I've ever met a finance bro. How are they in bed? I bet they're freaky.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 1, 2023 4:56 PM |
More whiny than freaky.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 1, 2023 4:58 PM |
Why would a finance bro want a tacky "gift card"? I was a bootstrapping finance bro out of college, 1st get Ivy League. I had a rich auntie who nevertheless understood the writ and gave me her Brooks Brothers charge account for year. I would have rathered Paul Stuart but I was terribly grateful. This was decades ago but Brooks was kind of old fogey even then. As soon as I had my own money I bought Italian and French suits. Those Italian suits fit like a second skin. Entry level was 1k, on sale! 40 years ago! How much is a basic Brioni nowadays? 4k? 5k? 8k?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 1, 2023 5:46 PM |
In short, is the gift card going to be for 1K or more? If not, why not consider a different gift. If all you can afford is a $200 tie, just give the tie directly, no gift card.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 1, 2023 5:50 PM |
Oh crap. The designer filter doesn't work any more.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 1, 2023 6:19 PM |
Travel to Chicago and find out, R30.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 1, 2023 6:20 PM |
The really rich go to tailors that no one on this board have ever even heard of. Kids (under 35) and the upper middle class (which describes 99% of the people the OP is talking about) buy that overpriced Italian crap mentioned above because they don't know any better.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 1, 2023 6:22 PM |
R37 Bruno Cucinelli, Kiton, Loro Piana, Zegna, Brioni are crap?
You don't know what you are talking about.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 1, 2023 6:26 PM |
Really, R37. They dress actors playing James Bond in Brioni suits in the movies because they don't know it's overpriced crap. They're not as clever as you. Thank you for enlightening us.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 1, 2023 6:27 PM |
For the know-nothings here:
"Here’s how Brunello Cucinelli (and his $5,000 blazers) became Silicon Valley billionaires’ favorite designer"
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 1, 2023 6:31 PM |
Halston…Gucci….Fiorucci…
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 1, 2023 6:31 PM |
R38 R39 - No, they dress James Bond in those clothes because the theatre attendees expect to see him wearing those clothes. Oh, and also because those designers give them to EON Productions for free.

Bespoke suits from coveted private suit makers. Some don't go for Euro cuts and designers. If they are East Coast old money and the boarding school/Ivy crowd they could go more conservative. You don't see a lot of skinny suiting in the exclusive private clubs. The skinny trouser and tiny jackets are considered laughable no matter how much the guys wearing them paid for them.

[quote]You don't see a lot of skinny suiting in the exclusive private clubs.
Uh, what exclusive private clubs are you talking about? Name them. And when was the last time you visited..
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 1, 2023 6:49 PM |
Jesus Christ you guys I’m not buying a gift card for Sherman McCoy and the Masters of the Universe, I said I was buying it for the blue shirt/black vest peons like the people on the escalator.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 1, 2023 6:55 PM |
It's okay, OP. We're going off on a tangent. We couldn't let R37's comments go unchallenged.
I see, R46. So the Italian brands we've mentioned don't have suits in more conservative cuts? They're only dressing skinny young guys?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | December 1, 2023 6:58 PM |
Tell us how much you want to put on the card, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 1, 2023 7:27 PM |
suddenly we went from tech bros to billionaires.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 1, 2023 7:28 PM |
If he is an escalator "finance bro" peon in flyoverstan, give him a tie he knows is "quality". Whatever that might be. Perhaps a Turnbull & Asser or Charvet. He probably doesn't have nice ties but would appreciate one.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | December 1, 2023 7:31 PM |
R51, OP isn't buying for a tech bro either.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 1, 2023 7:32 PM |
Oh for crissakes you don't need to be a billionaire to wear high quality businesswear. It's useful and sexy when you have a bit of spending money. Makes a young man feel powerful and together.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | December 1, 2023 7:32 PM |
I teach half my courses in the business school and I love it when the young men wear suits to class. They act differently, too. Some of them are sooooooo sexy when they are all cleaned up. So optimistic, with lots of testosterone.

BB and VV? KJP?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | December 1, 2023 8:03 PM |
R54, I assumed that in the corporate world, if a guy wore an expensive suit "above his station", he'd be sacked on the spot 😆. Isn't that how things work?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | December 1, 2023 8:09 PM |
No it doesn't work that way at all. Not in the global capitals filled with very wealthy youth.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | December 1, 2023 8:29 PM |
R57 but that may be so in Flyoverstan cities.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | December 1, 2023 8:30 PM |

A friend of mine would meet regularly with HM QEII (to discuss a particular industry that she was interested in) wearing a Holland & Holland jacket and tie.

so, horses
by Anonymous | reply 62 | December 1, 2023 9:11 PM |
I don't know were they buy them but they drop them off at Redwood City. (Bay Area) goodwill. On El Camino Real. I have never seen such a huge collection of expensive clothes. Especially business suits. Great computer crap too.

R62 Maritime. Generally as it affected RN and the associated interaction between other interested private parties. Other conversations revolving around Lloyd's and also the B Exchange.

That's a nice gift. Is there an upscale department store in town? God, not MACYS. Or just a Nordstroms or Saks or Brooks Brothers, which are online.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | December 2, 2023 12:40 AM |
Gee I blocked R69 and half the thread disappeared.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | December 2, 2023 1:10 AM |
R66 - That is VERY funny. There are a couple people who post here fairly often, and they would MURDER for a social introduction to him.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | December 2, 2023 2:32 AM |
We've all had a good laugh at your expense, R6. You embarrassed yourself, but we thank you.

Loro Piana (might be more of a tech bro thing).

I'm sure the top Italian brands will make made-to-measure suits in any style and from any fabric you want.
