There's more detail in this article. He was 33 years old, engaged, and his home was in the mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles. A very tragic event for him and his family.

A friend of mine has friends in Brentwood whose neighborhood has had problems with homeless people in cars who have sort of stalk residents and rob their homes after they leave for work. Even though robberies are awful, they feel lucky they waited until they left. This is probably going to make a lot of people nervous. Homelessness continues to be a big problem in Los Angeles for many reasons.

KTLA is reporting that it wasn't a random attack. The suspect/homeless woman targeted Matthew Latt because he was friends with a woman that she had been stalking.

Restraining orders don't seem to do a lot to restrain obsessed stalkers. What a nightmare for the film director who did everything she could to protect herself, and now her friend ends up murdered.
