She had a hilarious scene-stealing cameo in Julie & Julia. Think she'd been suffering with Alzheimer's for a number of years now. Glad the suffering is over. She was great.

My god - she had 6 kids. Are any of them well known?

Her daughter is a nice girl - actress Amanda Carlin. She told me the thing that surprised her about her mother’s career is that the Sean Connery “Outland” (1981) didn’t bring Sternhagen more movie roles at the time.

Two sons, Paul and Tony are also actors.

She also stole some scenes in Misery as the sheriff's wife. A very small part but she made it memorable

That's sad. I waited on her when I was a server at Applebee's in Times Square 20 years ago. Very nice and polite. She was there with, I guess, her grandkids.

Loved her as Kyra Sedgwick's mother in The Closer.

Loved her on Cheers, and as Carters nana on ER and as Willie Ray on the Closer.

She was Mrs. Marsh in a series of commercials for Colgate toothpaste in the ‘70’s! With those choppers!
