Jimmy Carter looks terrible!

How is this guy still alive, much less attending a funeral in person?

Unbelievable.

Love Jimmy, but photos like those make me wonder whether I'd even want to live that long.

by Anonymousreply 4November 28, 2023 7:34 PM

OP you are an ass.

It's his wife's funeral. Plus he's 99 years old.

Honestly, I expected worse.

by Anonymousreply 6November 28, 2023 7:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 8November 28, 2023 7:52 PM

R2, what, specifically, is wrong with Michelle's clothes?

by Anonymousreply 13November 28, 2023 8:26 PM

R42, I really don't think so. The people in that church, most of whom (if not all) were invited guests, family members, and beloved friends, would never even think of doing something so trashy and disrespectful. If the former President were there, it would've been just like the George H. W. Bush funeral--he'd have sat there sulking, while the other guests either ignored him, or politely made nice with him.

That was no Trump rally or Father Coughlin-type audience, ya know.

Pres. Carter has lost a great deal of weight since he started hospice care. Having had very old people in my own family nearing the end of their lives I know he probably eats very little now. And when the hospice care people say the end days are here they will likely restrict all nourishment from him to bring on the end as quickly as possible.

Neither Jimmy nor Rosalynn have been "in a hospice". They receive(d) hospice care in their own home.

by Anonymousreply 79November 29, 2023 12:51 AM

[quote] People who are near death stop eating and drinking on their own.

Not always. My own grandmother was still eating up until the day she died. She had days when it looked like the end was a few hours away, and suddenly she'd rally. Her last day of life she had lunch in the hospital. Within a few hours she had taken a turn for the worse and died. People in the final hours of life die in their own ways. And restricting nourishment at the end is a standard process for many hospice care patients.

by Anonymousreply 80November 29, 2023 12:51 AM

[quote] Neither Jimmy nor Rosalynn have been "in a hospice". They receive(d) hospice care in their own home.

Where exactly did anyone say either of them were "in" a hospice care facility? The statement that was made was that they were receiving hospice care, which they were, every day.

by Anonymousreply 81November 29, 2023 12:54 AM

R80 This is true. And there are far-right groups who oppose hospice care for this reason. They compare it to assisted suicide. I've had very good experiences with it for four family members. It's a dignified way to go.

by Anonymousreply 82November 29, 2023 12:55 AM

The hospice nurses/attendants are angels. The hardest job on earth.

by Anonymousreply 83November 29, 2023 12:57 AM

When one of my former neighbors died, he had been in hospice care in his own home for a couple of weeks. His granddaughter told me that the last 2 days of his life the hospice nurses who came every day had removed all food and liquids. They didn't even give him water or even an ice cube. It was specifically to bring on death as quickly as possible. Of course he was so far gone by then he didn't even realize it or suffer at all.

by Anonymousreply 84November 29, 2023 12:57 AM

R81 some made in assumption in this thread and the other one. Not everything is about you.

by Anonymousreply 85November 29, 2023 12:59 AM

And you don't have to correct every assumption you find to make yourself look like you know more than everyone else. Snippy, officious queens should mind their manners and they'll keep their friends.

by Anonymousreply 86November 29, 2023 1:10 AM

For the most part, elderly people near death aren’t that hungry. Of course, there are exceptions. When they start to die, (days before the moment of death), the organs slow down, digestion slows down, etc. According to hospice, they don’t get that thirsty, either.

When my grandma was dying this summer, in the day before the deep sleep that preceded her death, I would offer her Propel, which she loved. She took a sip the first few times, but soon after she stopped.

I did ask hospice for dozens of “toothettes”, little Q-tip sized sticks with sponges on the end used to wet the mouth. Although many people may not get thirsty at the end, their mouths do get dry since they’re generally sleeping with their mouths open. Despite allegedly lacking thirst, an extremely dry mouth seems uncomfortable. I made sure to go in there a few times every hour and wet her mouth with the toothettes. I learned that when I worked in a nursing home as a kid. If you find yourself in a similar situation with a loved one, don’t forget that— and ask for a bunch!

by Anonymousreply 87November 29, 2023 1:14 AM

R130, They should put the blanket on eBay and give the proceeds to the Carter Center.

by Anonymousreply 134November 29, 2023 10:31 AM

R49 I'm not the poster you are addressing but "passed" is not a Catholic phrase. Try to educate yourself and not talk out of your ass about things you don't know.

by Anonymousreply 135November 29, 2023 10:54 AM

The best part of the whole service was when Judy Woodruff recalled Rosalynn's glee when she was told Biden had beat Trump for the White House. That had to sting Melania like a bumble bee.

by Anonymousreply 136November 29, 2023 1:10 PM

R136, Melania probably giggled.

by Anonymousreply 137November 29, 2023 1:53 PM

[quote]I did ask hospice for dozens of “toothettes”, little Q-tip sized sticks with sponges on the end used to wet the mouth.

This is excellent advice for those with elderly loved ones here. We used a wet cloth on my grandmother's mouth, at the end, since it was so dry.

by Anonymousreply 138November 29, 2023 4:02 PM

[quote] [R136], Melania probably giggled.

Yeah, right.

by Anonymousreply 139November 29, 2023 4:10 PM

The breakout star of Tuesday’s service was grandson Jason Carter.

Good looking, good speaker, good personality.

Well this was totally turned into a Trump thread. Kudos gals. 🙄

by Anonymousreply 141November 29, 2023 5:31 PM

Any time is a good time to shit on Donald Trump and his whore, R141.

by Anonymousreply 142November 29, 2023 6:09 PM

Americans are so weird about aging and death. Weirder than anyone I've ever met

by Anonymousreply 143November 29, 2023 6:16 PM

I agree OP.

I love me some Carters & wish I was old enough to vote for him in 1980 but I have to admit this is the first thing that came to my mind when I saw a pic of him online at the funeral =

LOL time heals all wounds. Jimmy Carter a great president? He was fucking horrible.

by Anonymousreply 145November 29, 2023 6:30 PM

He was great. Only idiots who are easily swayed by right wing propaganda believe he wasn't. Our country would be a paradise if he'd gotten a second term.

by Anonymousreply 146November 29, 2023 6:42 PM

How was he great?

by Anonymousreply 147November 29, 2023 6:43 PM

That is what 100 looks like... 80 is long enough for me

by Anonymousreply 148November 29, 2023 6:51 PM

R147 He established the Dept of Energy, the Dept of Education, he created lots of environmental protection initiatives, he negotiated a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt that has lasted until this day, he stopped covert support for dictators around the world especially in Latin America, he vigorously supported the focus on Human Rights... which later led to his being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

For a start...

by Anonymousreply 149November 29, 2023 6:55 PM

The day before my mother died, her mouth was open like that but her eyes were closed.

by Anonymousreply 150November 29, 2023 7:52 PM

BTW, when my brother saw her, his eyes were out on stalks. He asked why is her mouth open? I told him because she's dying and shit happens.

by Anonymousreply 151November 29, 2023 7:57 PM

I can’t help thinking that there are so many DLers in for a rude shock should they make it out of their 40s. Grow the fuck fuck up - it’s called aging and it can be a gift if you handle it right.

by Anonymousreply 152November 29, 2023 8:00 PM

The magats are all over the internet celebrating that Mrs. Carter's in hell and Jimmy soon joining. He's a Democrat after all.

They really are just horrible turds and definitely not Christians as they proclaim.

by Anonymousreply 153November 29, 2023 8:09 PM

When informed that Ted Kennedy was going to primary him in 1980.

“I’ll kick his ass”.

by Anonymousreply 154November 29, 2023 8:12 PM

R119, I always thought that was fake Melania when the Dumps left the WH. She looked uncommonly thin. Then when they arrived in Florida, she was back to her chubby self.

Of course, she’s not really chubby, but she definitely has a more matronly figure now than when she married Dump.

by Anonymousreply 155November 29, 2023 8:16 PM

He once called George W. Bush the worst President in history.

W’s not the worst any more.

by Anonymousreply 159November 29, 2023 8:28 PM

R157 your link does not work

by Anonymousreply 160November 29, 2023 8:29 PM

Some of you just don't know where to draw the line. Do you make fun of your elderly and sick relatives too?

Pres. Carter has only been holding on to make sure that his wife was being taken care of. He will probably go within the next few weeks.

Kudos to him for being so ill and traveling 140 miles each way just to attend the service of his wife. Anyone here should be so lucky as to be loved like that. God speed to both of them.

p.s. Melania was invited as Rosalind's request. This BS about her not wearing black is ridiculous. The Democrats now sound as bad as the Republicans. She had on a black dress and her coat was a kind of tweed that was black and white. The white just showed predominately in the photos. Stop lowering yourselves to the Republican standards please.

by Anonymousreply 161November 29, 2023 9:38 PM

Jimmy Carter inherited one of our shittiest economies ever and then he sought out Paul Volcker to fix it and appointed Volcker to head the Fed. He had a solution but warned President Carter that the fix would make the economy worse before it got better and the magic would take at least 2 years to start showing. Carter said do it. It happened exactly as he predicted and Reagan got the credit in 1982. Reagan's head of the Fed? He kept Paul Volker.

Jimmy freed the hostages and Reagan negotiated (with arms and cash) for the Iranians to keep the hostages until after his inauguration. Unforgivable.

His was the only presidency in the history of America that didn't fire a shot in aggression. The entire history. Not one shot.

He told the Trilateral Commission to go fuck itself and he paid the price dearly. That's the actual "Deep State".

He regretted wearing his religion on his sleeve and wished he'd kept quiet about because he felt personally responsible for The Moral Majority and the hydra they became with their awful tentacles.

He deregulated so many things that we take for granted. Airlines, trucking home brewing.

He put solar panels on the White House and freed up money for solar energy research and development. Reagan undid that and now we lag woefully behind.

Rosalynn help craft and one of the best (and only) mental health bills in the history of the world. Reagan immediately flushed it down the toilet.

He sought to decriminalize weed.

He sought to simplify the tax code.

He was an actual Christian, committed to a woman's right to choose. The only people who hate Jimmy Carter are the idiots who believe the powerful propaganda machines who would've lost money without war, pollution, oil and the prison industrial complex. We deserve what we got, but we could've had so much better.

by Anonymousreply 162November 29, 2023 10:57 PM

^ And Americans didn't like being told to turn down the thermostat and put on a sweater. They preferred the excesses of the Reagan era of endless consumption and greed.

by Anonymousreply 163November 29, 2023 11:02 PM

I do hope when Jimmy is at home they drape some netting over that mouth to keep the flies out.

by Anonymousreply 164November 29, 2023 11:56 PM

[quote] p.s. Melania was invited as Rosalind's request

Rosalind? Rosalind Russell?

by Anonymousreply 165November 30, 2023 2:17 AM

That is some amazing stuff, R162!

Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I truly had no idea.

You just listen to the talking heads "Carter was the worst President ever!" and then you start to believe it.

So thanks for debunking all the bunk.

by Anonymousreply 166November 30, 2023 3:26 AM

How long did it take you to think that one up, R164?

by Anonymousreply 167November 30, 2023 3:36 AM

I think he looks fantastic!

by Anonymousreply 168November 30, 2023 3:46 AM

[quote] I can’t help thinking that there are so many DLers in for a rude shock should they make it out of their 40s.

I'm guessing that the DLers bitching about Jimmy Carter having the audacity to be old are *well over 40*.

by Anonymousreply 170November 30, 2023 4:29 AM

I believe Biden is on par with Carter. The Rethugs have hunted high and low for dirt on him and all they can come up with is some stuff maybe his son did.

by Anonymousreply 171November 30, 2023 4:40 AM

he looks like HE should be in the casket

by Anonymousreply 172November 30, 2023 4:42 AM

by Anonymousreply 176November 30, 2023 10:30 AM

The Grim Reaper has claimed Henry Kissinger and Shane MacGowan (and, here in the UK, Dean Sullivan and Alistair Darling) in one day. Careful, Jimmy, he's on a roll.

by Anonymousreply 177November 30, 2023 2:28 PM

Melania has an autist's fashion sense. She dresses in costumes. Her shitty Out of Africa look in Egypt, her stupid 50s see thru sun dress for July 4th, her Italian widow look to see the Pope, her dumbass pussy bows she tried to make happen. Her Tiffany Blue shoutout dress to her security boyfriend at the inauguration. She could've chosen one of the probably 15 appropriate black coats from her gold rimmed closet and worn it to the funeral. This cunt wanted attention. And she got it. Old ass sex worker selling her shit.

by Anonymousreply 178November 30, 2023 2:56 PM

Melania was wearing a gray trenchcoat dress. I don't see the big deal. The other FLs were all wearing all black. She did stand out, but I don't think there's a rule that you have to wear black at a funeral.

by Anonymousreply 179November 30, 2023 3:45 PM

After my grandfather died in 1965, my grandmother wore black for the next year.

That would be ludicrous today.

Times change.

by Anonymousreply 180November 30, 2023 4:05 PM

She was one of 3 people in the entire church not wearing black.

by Anonymousreply 181November 30, 2023 4:31 PM

She does look like she put on some weight (Melania).

by Anonymousreply 182November 30, 2023 4:32 PM

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 183November 30, 2023 4:52 PM

Your link doesn't support your "Bullshit", R183. There is one woman wearing a green coat, one woman wearing a blue coat, one man in a medium grey suit and one man who's taken off his black jacket. Melania is a beacon of bright in the black.

by Anonymousreply 184November 30, 2023 5:09 PM

Jason Carter was not dressed in black R183

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 185November 30, 2023 5:33 PM

There were a sprinkling of guests not in back (I saw red and green outfits), but generally everyone was in black. However, I think the black and white tweed was fine and conservative enough. There is so much more shit she’s pulled (that infamous jacket, for one) that I feel this one isn’t worth arguing about.

She is, however, the proverbial whore in church, as r184 says. Nothing will really erase that.

by Anonymousreply 186November 30, 2023 5:33 PM

Is navy acceptable for a funeral?

by Anonymousreply 187November 30, 2023 5:45 PM

I don't believe in God. After all, how could a trashy whore like Melania walk into a church and not burst into flames?

by Anonymousreply 188November 30, 2023 6:32 PM

Everyone looks terrible at 99!

by Anonymousreply 189November 30, 2023 9:09 PM

I looked great at 100!

by Anonymousreply 190November 30, 2023 9:18 PM

R190, HK is proof thay evil lives long (lack of a conscious must be the culprit). Boy scout JC is the happy exception, not norm.

by Anonymousreply 191November 30, 2023 9:24 PM

OP Will you make it to 99?
