I thought she was closer to fifty when she died (not that she really looked old for her age). I’m surprised she wasn’t even forty — she was pretty ubiquitous for a while starting, but I guess that started during her late teens.

This is one of the celebrity deaths that most bummed me out when it happened. She got snapped up out of rural poverty at a young age and badly taken advantage of by Hefner and Hollywood and E! in particular. She didn’t deserve all the shit she went through. Left to her own devices in bumfuck Texas, she may well have eventually ended strung out / dying from drug use. Instead her steep downward spiral was filmed and broadcast and made into a punchline. If she was smarter or wealthier or more eloquent then maybe people would have had more compunction about pointing and laughing at her, even after it became obvious that she was circling the drain.

And her son’s fortieth!

People say her daughter looks like her mother, but I think Dannielynn is much prettier and all natural (so far).

Anna was truly an American Original. She was our funhouse mirror image of Princess Diana. Did anyone watch that doc on Anna? I think it’s on Netflix, but I’m not certain about that. It wasn’t too long, but it was interesting. Anna was nobody’s victim except to her own drug, alcohol and food addiction. She had a close relationship with her bodyguard who cared about her very much, but he was very straight about what happened in her life. According to him, regardless of how it looked from the outside, Anna was running her own show. She was not being controlled by anyone.

It was kind of sad how she created this myth about her abusive upbringing, because it was a lie and her mother was unfairly bashed after Anna died.
