In praise of eccentrics...
The rasta-ed, be-ringed, tunic-ed 81-year-old seems harmless and amusing in small doses, a refreshingly more benign sort of fame whore.

The son of artist Balthus, a very successful social climber who invented his aristocratic lineage and also the name Klossowski de Rola. Balthus never invented himself as more than count but the son seems to have promoted himself to prince.

His mother was a Swiss de Watteville, old powerful Bern family. I think the de Wattevilles had some barons certainly no princely level novels. 18th Century Bern allowed a civil "nobility" - patricians really, wohledelgeboren. There was a Principauté de Neuchâtel but I don't think de Wattevilles had any place there.

I like him. He's a slightly more pompous version of some older friends, but benignly so. Interesting and he seems interested in things. (To be fair, his videos are about himself as told through various places and objects, so necessarily there's an aspect of being a bit full of oneself, but he has some good humor about it.)
I like his house/castle which he left on the spare and primitive side, and he has a curious taste for things, many inspired by his hippie brand of mysticism.
The more (Instagram) videos i watch, the more I like him.

His Wikipedia bio. He's run in interesting circles.

Oh, yeah, I've seen his name come across bio's that I've read of people from that era.

The OP photo looks like he hasn't combed his rats' nest for decades. Yuck!

Considering the life he's led and all of the consequential or notable people he associated with, I appreciate that he's full of himself and is able to discuss and document his background. It's worth discussing.
It's a shame he hasn't gotten his autobiography together.
