How can that be? Her highest charting album was in 2014 when she hit #6. She had two #2 albums in the UK in the last ten years. Was she more of a singles artist?
Dolly Parton never had a #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart

I’m sure she’s had plenty of number ones on the country music charts, huh? It would be cool for her to have a #1 with Rockstar.

Ok, I think I counted 7 number one albums on the Country music charts. I’m shocked it’s only 7! I just read she’s had 49 studio albums, 6 live albums, [bold]222 compilation albums(!)[/bokd] then a bunch of soundtrack albums and appearances on another 190 albums!
Jesus, she’s been one busy woman!!
Let’s send Rockstar to number one on the mainstream album chart. She’s Dolly freakin’ Parton! She deserves it!!

I love Dolly but these days with streaming and low album sales it's easier to have a no.1 debut. Madonna had a whole streak of them over the last decade for instance, despite low sales overall. Surprised DP has never been no.1 before, she's one class act

Love Dolly!

Love her, but this means nothing these days.

What’s up with the dress made of rocks?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 24, 2023 10:37 AM |
R5, it absolutely does from a PR standpoint. A 77 year old beating some Gen Z “singer” is a big deal.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 24, 2023 10:41 AM |
I agree, R7. It would definitely be a big deal.

Before Soundscan was used to measure album sales, country music and other genres were significantly underreported.

she needs kinder and better photo stylists. This image is just unfortunate. Is she ready for her star fucking?

Dolly did a halftime show at the Dallas-Washington game yesterday. FF to 1:00:
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 24, 2023 12:52 PM |
My family had quite the amazed reaction that she decided to dress like a Dallas cowboy cheerleader last night

She was funny, though, when she seemingly laughed at her own outfit during "We Are The Champions."
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 24, 2023 12:56 PM |
So what, OP? She's had a very long, extraordinary career and life.

The gay Dolly fanatics are scary. If you meet one- run.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 24, 2023 1:05 PM |
R14, I’m not trying shade her. I adore her. I was just surprised.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 24, 2023 1:11 PM |
Why did she decided to cover What's Up?, which is considered one if the worst songs ever? And even worse, collaborate with Kid Rock? Ugh
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 24, 2023 1:23 PM |
I love Dolly and thought she looked great yesterday!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 24, 2023 1:50 PM |
She can always release an album of all her versions of "I Will Always Love You."
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 24, 2023 1:58 PM |
OP, she was a country singer. She hit #1 on the country charts a billion times.
I love her, she was an incredibly gifted singer and songwriter, but she's getting to be as much of an attention whore as Madonna or Elton John. This new record just sounds like a terrible idea from start to finish.

It's much better than it has a right to be.

The Yassss Kweens jumping on the Dolly train late due to her meme status don’t realize she was a sideshow circus act by the late 80s. No one took her music seriously.

Most of these later Yazzzers only know Jolene, 9to5 and maybe that she wrote Whitney’s version of IWALY. They hate country and don’t know any of her catalog, they just worship the image of her that looks like a drag queen.

27 Grammy nominations since 1990 (7 wins), 15 CMT Music Award noms since 1990 (7 wins), 12 Country Music Association noms since 1990 (4 wins), 6 International Bluegrass Music noms since 2000 (4 wins), 4 GMA Dove Award noms (for Christian music) since 2004 (1 win).
Not bad for (what you consider) a novelty act.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 24, 2023 5:37 PM |
R24 no *fans took her music seriously, and she didn’t sell well from the 90s and on. She’s been a nostalgic act since 1988 or so. She’s liked within country and palatable to pop music insiders so yes she’s received some nominations. God you tiresome Kweens.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 24, 2023 5:41 PM |
r22/r23/Teacake I think many know her in depth a bit more than you estimate. I'm sure some are just what you've described, however. Do people around you use the phrase "Yassss Kweens?" If so, you should start hanging around adults.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 24, 2023 5:42 PM |
R26 well anyone knows about famous women who peaked in the 1980s it would probably be you TERI GARR fish
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 24, 2023 5:44 PM |
I love her as well, but if you have heard her new album it won’t be going to #1 because it’s a great record.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 24, 2023 5:48 PM |
I bought it because she sings with Simon LeBon and has a cover of “Night Moves” which I love.
I haven’t listened to the whole thing yet.
It was 18 bucks on Apple Music.
