Former Gov Andrew Cuomo Wants to Run for Mayor of New York

[QUOTE]Cuomo, who resigned amid sexual harassment allegations and claims he covered up the number of Covid nursing home deaths, is indicating he may run for mayor if Eric Adams sinks under the weight of a federal investigation.

[QUOTE] Where’s that nice Kathryn Garcia when you need her?

Wherever she is, she better stay there. If she runs against Cuomo, she’ll be a two-time loser.

by Anonymousreply 3November 22, 2023 8:49 PM

I can’t stand the guy, but if he runs he will have a decent chance.

The current mayor isn’t impressing and the previous one was a disaster.

Before Cuomo’s issues interfered, he was generally viewed positively as a governor.

I worked at a restaurant that he visited 20 years ago. He threw a shit fit when the waiter actually presented the check. His party was comped ($2,000 IIRC).

by Anonymousreply 7November 23, 2023 3:11 AM

He’s an entitled bully-cunt, just like his asshole brother.

by Anonymousreply 8November 23, 2023 3:15 AM

He would do a good job, better than the other idiots. He can name whatever he wants after his dad if he can clean up the streets.

by Anonymousreply 9November 23, 2023 3:18 AM

I think Manhattanites would be very skeptical of Cuomo, who played Republicans and Democrats against each other so he could control both parties. Then there is the little matter of sexual harassment claims.

Brooklyn is probably out for him too. Can’t count on the other boroughs though.

by Anonymousreply 12November 23, 2023 10:29 AM

I can’t stand him either but name recognition is powerful on Election Day. New Yorkers, despite the rhetoric, have proven themselves time and time again to be pretty unsophisticated voters.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 21November 23, 2023 12:49 PM

I guess it's actual clinical or pathological narcissism but why do these people with these skeleton run? These days, it's impossible to run and keep anything quiet (I hope... I don't want to imagine what's being kept quiet, otherwise, when you consider what gets out there...) Or is it now that a scandal is just table stakes, deny (even when everybody knows you're lying or thinks you're lying) and then brazen it out to run again because you're just so special, even though it's name rec gets you elected? One fucked up mess, the modern age.

Cuomo was ethically challenged with his book profits and a "Me Too" disaster with his touchy feely gropiness, but compared to Adams selling out the city to a foreign country for city favors and campaign finance abuse, I will go for Cuomo. Adams has been incompetent and now he is selling out the poorest and most needy to give Trump something in return.

by Anonymousreply 99February 11, 2025 12:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 105February 11, 2025 4:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 106February 14, 2025 1:31 AM

I liked him

by Anonymousreply 107February 14, 2025 2:26 AM

People are obsessed with calling him a “slimeball” as if what they deem to be slimeballs aren’t getting elected left and right across the country. Wake up. Right now people don’t give AF if someone is a slimeball or not. Obviously. They only care if that person’s tendencies are going to work in their favor, or in the favor of what they see as right.

by Anonymousreply 108February 14, 2025 9:51 AM

Hochul removing Adams would be a bold move. That’s not her style. Politically,, no one in NYC would care. He’s done for. Right now Dems can’t bother with worrying about slime balls. But I’m sure they will. Remember losing is ok if you do the right thing. The losers motto.

by Anonymousreply 109February 14, 2025 10:14 AM

by Anonymousreply 114February 14, 2025 1:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 115February 14, 2025 7:28 PM

From the New York Times:

[QUOTE] Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is considering entering the mayoral race, released a rare campaign-style video on Friday afternoon seemingly reminding New Yorkers that he was waiting in the wings. The video showed Cuomo at a Valentine’s Day event saying “I miss you” to the crowd. He said New Yorkers were worried about the city’s future: “We have been through this before as New Yorkers. We’ve seen the ups. We’ve seen the downs. We know how to make this city work and make this state safe for everyone, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”

Cuomo signed for "No Bail, No Jail" allowing perps to be on streets to do more harm. OKd, Congestion Pricing, now costing $9.00 to drive below 6oth Street. And thousands he sent back to nursing homes where they died of Covid. When questioned, he does the usual Tap Dance with answers that add up to nothing,.

[QUOTE] I don’t excuse Cuomo for a lot of his stuff / not to mention the nursing home stuff. BUT he would be a total warrior against Trump and their Klan.

Cuomo will run NYC as a center left Democrat and be fiscally more responsible than the recent leaders and socially more open minded. I love Ritchie Torres. I love Andrew Cuomo even more! Run Andrew Run!!!

by Anonymousreply 156February 28, 2025 12:43 PM

Can't this ugly motherfucker just disappear?

Kerry really married down when she chose this guy for a husband.

by Anonymousreply 157February 28, 2025 1:03 PM

Controversial opinion - the man is a Democrat and a real sonofabitch. Which is what we need given the sociopaths we have in office all around the country.

He brings the fight and has my vote.

by Anonymousreply 158February 28, 2025 1:22 PM

[quote]^New York City is not MAGAT country, dummies, and the relatives of those who died live here.

You must not be from New York, or spent much time on the UES, Midtown, quiet MAGATS. They aren’t out loud and proud. They will test the temperature of the room with talking about the rise in crime or most recently Columbia U Protests. Then if they find a kindred soul, they are off to the races. MAGATS do exist and live in NYC. Don’t be fooled.

by Anonymousreply 159February 28, 2025 1:25 PM

Midtown?! You be nuts.

by Anonymousreply 160February 28, 2025 1:32 PM

NY state showed the biggest increase in the number of voters who went for Trump. Ditto NJ. and unless the Dems put up a strong candidate, the next Governor of NY will be a Republican. Trump is a loser but unhappy people make bad choices.

by Anonymousreply 161February 28, 2025 1:53 PM

The next Governor of NY will not be a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 162February 28, 2025 2:13 PM

Keep saying that. It depends 100% on who the Dems run. I bet you also thought Harris would win easily.

by Anonymousreply 163February 28, 2025 2:27 PM

Yes, Cuomo has the baggage. He has his own authoritative style. However, he does have a reputation for getting tasks done. His arrogance aside, I expect, overall, he would be an effective mayor in a good way. Perhaps he has learned his lesson, and will stop the skirt chasing with personnel.

by Anonymousreply 164February 28, 2025 3:00 PM

I will rank Cuomo, just because it’s more important to me to get Adams out. But he’s far from my preferred candidate. I wish Garcia had run again, because she should have won last time. And very nearly did.

I tend to be very suspicious of close local elections anyway. There was a primary for Queens County DA a few years ago, and on election night, the progressive candidate (Tiffany Caban, who’s on the city council now) was ahead. But amazingly, they “found” a bunch of absentee ballots for the establishment candidate, Melinda Katz, who was borough president at the time. It stank to high heaven.

by Anonymousreply 165February 28, 2025 4:14 PM

[quote] NY state showed the biggest increase in the number of voters who went for Trump. Ditto NJ. and unless the Dems put up a strong candidate, the next Governor of NY will be a Republican.

Considering the leading Republican candidate right now is the inept and rather horrifying Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who spent the last two years licking Trump’s taint (including costing the county several million dollars in security for a Trump rally at the Coliseum that was of course not reimbursed) only to be given an “I don’t know her” when Trump was handing out cabinet positions….

I’m pretty sure even Hochul could beat a guy who basically wants his own official force of brownshirts.

by Anonymousreply 166February 28, 2025 5:29 PM

R165 that’s not how it works with ranked choice. Sure—they rigged hundreds of ballots, in exacly the manner that would re-rank Katz while still looking realistic to the tabulators.

So tedious, so dumb. Katz had the name recognition; she won.

by Anonymousreply 167February 28, 2025 6:00 PM

That was before ranked choice, dude.

And Katz and Caban were the only candidates.

by Anonymousreply 168February 28, 2025 7:18 PM

Cuomo would have to get by a Democratic primary in NYC to get the nomination. That will be a challenge.

And even if Trump did better in NYC than before, he lost his home city 70-30. Sounds like it's not MAGA country to me.

by Anonymousreply 169February 28, 2025 7:20 PM

R168 I stand corrected. My point about Katz as the “name” also stands. Your implied reference to corruption on the Queens ballot, which would entail cheating on a borough race across multiple NYCC districts is utterly ridiculous. You post like a MyPillow man.

by Anonymousreply 170February 28, 2025 7:42 PM

so much was unknown during Covid, Cuomo will rely on the narrative he was getting advice from professionals, and it is with deep regret that he will always have their deaths to mourn. He will lean into it and not blame others like a Trumper does. I don't think it will cost him the mayor's office if he wants it. He is waiting until the last minute to keep his attacks limited with time. Adams is so corrupt, and it is very fresh in people's minds. Adams did himself no favors with the Trump quid pro quo deal he made. Trump made an ass of him and now Adams brays on command. Just pathetic for NYers.

by Anonymousreply 171February 28, 2025 7:43 PM

Stupid comment for Friday: Cuomo would have to get by a Democratic primary in NYC to get the nomination. That will be a challenge

With ranked voting, it would be a breeze. And it will be.

by Anonymousreply 172February 28, 2025 7:44 PM

R171 No. He will do a mea culpa on under-reporting of deaths for “political reasons”…and move on. As will NYC voters in the Democratic primary. To believe that Silwa or any other Republican nominee will beat Cuomo head-to-head is insanity.

by Anonymousreply 173February 28, 2025 7:49 PM

However by then we may be balls deep in a Bird Flu Measles epidemic

by Anonymousreply 174February 28, 2025 7:58 PM

There’s no epidemic coming to rescue us from the claws of the Republican Party, R174.

by Anonymousreply 175February 28, 2025 9:59 PM

{whispers} AOC would clobber him

by Anonymousreply 176March 1, 2025 10:38 AM

openly gay US Rep. Ritchie Torres (Bronx) has pre-endorsed Cuomo and publicly called on him to run. Torres is also hammering away at Kathy Hochul for her soft on crime policies as Gov and maybe thinking about running against her. He is a moderate Dem in a similar district right next to AOC. You almost never see them together or complimenting one another. He is a name to watch because he is going to be more than a US Rep. it seems. One time on a local tv interview, he was asked if he is part of "the squad" and he politely shook his head and said he has too much work to do than to be part of a group, a very clear but subtle dig it seemed.

by Anonymousreply 177March 1, 2025 12:12 PM

Ritchie Torres has great charisma and could have a big future. However, he is very pro Israel and that may hurt him. I’m a big fan of his and hope it doesn’t. He’s also very handsome and very smart.

by Anonymousreply 178March 1, 2025 12:23 PM

“…he is very pro Israel and that may hurt him..”

Not in in NY politics it won’t.

by Anonymousreply 179March 1, 2025 1:06 PM

No new talent on the horizon anywhere. What's this about? We're regressing.

by Anonymousreply 180March 1, 2025 2:19 PM

R176 you mean the same AOC who told New Yorkers they should be afraid of Daniel Penny and who seems completely out of touch with what the average straphanger, let alone NYer goes through anymore?

r178 being anti-Israel used to be a career ender for anyone in NY politics. I don't think Jesse Jackson ever recovered from calling it Hymietown. I do think being Pro-Israel will be a problem for anyone there.

by Anonymousreply 181March 1, 2025 2:38 PM

Cuomo is in.

Republicans hold no sway in NYC. Cuomo has a good shot. I do not doubt he will have plausible answers to the nursing home scandal and book deal. Compare him to Adams/Trump ticket and Cuomo's grabby hands will win! Keep hammering that the alternative is an Eric Adams/Donald Trump ticket for the next 4.

by Anonymousreply 185March 1, 2025 6:56 PM

I’ll rank Cuomo. Not first, but it’s more important for me to get Adams out.

by Anonymousreply 186March 1, 2025 9:26 PM

Who the hell is even running on the Republican side?

by Anonymousreply 187March 1, 2025 9:37 PM

Curtis Silwa….and, soon—Eric Adams.

by Anonymousreply 188March 1, 2025 10:28 PM

Well, R187, the illustrious Curtis Sliwa ran last time.

Cuomo will win, handily. And I can't stand him. But Adams has to go. With this announcement, Adams is Dead Mayor Walking.

by Anonymousreply 189March 1, 2025 11:02 PM

Eric Adams would be a fool to run as a Republican. Cuomo would just smoke him twice.

by Anonymousreply 190March 2, 2025 1:14 AM

If Adams does run as a Republican, I will happily vote for Cuomo. He’s not my ideal candidate, but he’s sure as shit better than what we’ve got currently.

by Anonymousreply 191March 2, 2025 1:49 AM

Adams is done.

by Anonymousreply 192March 2, 2025 1:53 AM

Geez he looks like Don Barzini.

by Anonymousreply 193March 2, 2025 9:41 AM

Trump will probably have Adams to some awful things this year knowing that his time is limited, so get ready NYC.

by Anonymousreply 194March 2, 2025 11:36 AM

[quote]you mean the same AOC who told New Yorkers they should be afraid of Daniel Penny

Yes! That one. She's clobber him.

by Anonymousreply 195March 2, 2025 12:03 PM

Cuomo signed the Marriage Equality Act into law in 2011 allowing me to lawfully marry the man I'd been with, at that point, for 20 years. For that alone he has my vote for any office he seeks.

by Anonymousreply 196March 2, 2025 12:25 PM

[QUOTE] Geez he looks like Don Barzini.

I laughed way too hard at this.

by Anonymousreply 197March 2, 2025 12:36 PM

[quote]Cuomo signed the Marriage Equality Act into law in 2011

He's also corrupt, unstable and a groper. But I guess that's nice

by Anonymousreply 198March 2, 2025 6:27 PM

I’ll vote for Cuomo. If we can stick a multiple groper, rapist, and felon in the White House, it lowers the bar for everyone else.

Cuomo was a capable governor. Let’s give him a shot at mayor

by Anonymousreply 199March 2, 2025 6:33 PM

Sorry, the Virgin Mary isn’t coming down to run for mayor.

If you want virginal perfection in your candidates, you’re an idiot

by Anonymousreply 200March 2, 2025 6:34 PM

You looked at the mess he made of the Covid pandemic and thought he was capable? Sheesh

by Anonymousreply 201March 2, 2025 6:35 PM

Cuomo is a cunt and a bully, and he has a lot to answer for when it comes to all those Covid deaths in nursing homes.

But I hate Adams so much that it pleases me no end for him to see he's more than met his match with Cuomo.

Now--the bigger question is WHY, when there are decent, capable, non-groping candidates for mayor, we can't just elect one of them? Why is every NYC mayor a piece of shit? And why does NYC fall for the biggest piece of shit in evcery mayoral race?

by Anonymousreply 202March 2, 2025 6:38 PM

Surely there's a middle ground between "the virgin mary" and a corrupt, incompetent groper who doesn't know anything about NYC, doesn't live in NYC and will only be mayor long enough to establish his "Cuomo in 2028" committee.

by Anonymousreply 203March 2, 2025 6:39 PM

If it's Cuomo in 2028 against Vance or any other Repug/MAGAt scumbag, and Cuomo is the best choice, I guess it's time that the Democrats get ruthless for fucking once and get behind a ruthless ratbag like Cuomo-IF he can win in 2028. I want ruthlessness on our side.

by Anonymousreply 204March 2, 2025 6:47 PM

Cuomo's me too issues are the stuff of years old woke Dem policies that lost them many an election. Dems are trying to pretend their woke years never happened. Trump didn't pay a price and now Cuomo will have paid some price but not all out cancelled. He is much smarter than Adams and much more able to clean up the crime and general mess of the city. Let him run, and let the voters decide.

by Anonymousreply 205March 2, 2025 7:22 PM

He’s got more issues than me too and COVID.

by Anonymousreply 206March 2, 2025 7:37 PM

[quote] Let him run, and let the voters decide.

R205, no one's stopping him from running, obviously, and the voters will decide and will elect him. I'm saying why can't a non-morally repugnant candidate win? Probably because it's always the candidate with the biggest name recognition or money behind them who wins, every time. NYC voters afre very disappointing that way.

As for Cuomo cleaning up NYC and fixing all its problems--running the largest city in the country takes a skill that Cuomo, as a governor (or any governor, anywhere) might not have. The jury's out there. He sure didn't give a fuck about NYC when he was governor.

by Anonymousreply 207March 2, 2025 7:39 PM

R206 with all due respects stick to LawnGuyland, and leave this one to actual NYC voters. He’s got this.

by Anonymousreply 208March 2, 2025 7:54 PM

There’s no Chris Quinn here, to promise the moon and provide jack shit. It’s a binary choice at this point: Cuomo for the win. The end.

by Anonymousreply 209March 2, 2025 7:57 PM

R206 with all due respects stick to LawnGuyland, and leave this one to actual NYC voters. He’s got this.

Stop mansplaining, Big Miss R206. Elder Lez is right. If only actual NYC voters would only elect a mayor who isn't a piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 210March 2, 2025 8:04 PM

That was all for R208.

by Anonymousreply 211March 2, 2025 8:05 PM

All for naught. Cuomo is all we got.

by Anonymousreply 212March 2, 2025 8:15 PM

I get it. I loved Cuomo too until I had a run in with him.

But he’s no better than Rick Snyder. New York City deserves better than him or Adams.

by Anonymousreply 213March 2, 2025 8:22 PM

He isn't all we have, R212--that's my point. He's just the most prominent, the one from the dynasty, the one with the most money.

by Anonymousreply 214March 2, 2025 8:23 PM

R214 Your naivete is showing….

In the real world, there is no one with the $, time or experience to beat Cuomo. He can only beat himself. He will be the next Mayor.

by Anonymousreply 215March 2, 2025 8:27 PM

[quote] New York City deserves better than him or Adams.

I've been saying the same thing, R213. It's ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 216March 2, 2025 8:27 PM

It is ridiculous to think that something better will actually show up. A “Deus ex machina” ain’t on the table.

by Anonymousreply 217March 2, 2025 8:29 PM

What naivete, R215? I said that not only do I know he'll be the next mayor, I would vote for him when it comes to that. I'm saying there are others to whom I'll be ranking over him in the primary.

by Anonymousreply 218March 2, 2025 8:30 PM

Eric Trump wants in

by Anonymousreply 219March 2, 2025 8:30 PM

I stated from the beginning of my posts that Cuomo is going to be the next mayor, btw, that it's inevitable. It's his to take.

by Anonymousreply 220March 2, 2025 8:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 224March 2, 2025 9:59 PM

People saying Cuomo has issues and isn't qualified are the same people single for the last fifteen years and checking astrological charts, waiting for their perfect soul mate. A candidate doesn't have to be perfect. Actually it's better if they're not. They just have to be perfect for the moment we find ourselves in. And with someone like Cuomo who has a big mouth, gravitas and not afraid to call Trump on his bullshit on a national level, he is the perfect man for this moment we are in.

by Anonymousreply 225March 3, 2025 8:30 AM

^ People need to see democrats can be tough on crime - which he will be, and that we are not all delusional like AOC.

by Anonymousreply 226March 3, 2025 8:32 AM

If Cuomo takes NYC Mayor's office during the Trump years and turns NYC around, he will be well positioned to take POTUS next. He is ambitious and hungry now. He won't stop. He is not a psychopath nor a Russian asset, so I will remain optimistic.

by Anonymousreply 227March 3, 2025 12:23 PM

Please. He has no competition in that space but the Dem nomination is another matter. We’ll have much better candidates than him to choose from.

by Anonymousreply 228March 3, 2025 12:32 PM

Hey, retards: no one has said they're expecting some amazing progressive to step in and beat Cuomo. Understand, you fucking morons? We're merely saying he's a piece of shit. Which apparently qualifies him to be the next mayor of NYC.

by Anonymousreply 229March 3, 2025 12:52 PM

^^^J'adore!

by Anonymousreply 230March 3, 2025 2:27 PM

He is qualified by not being Adams and being a nemesis to Kathy Hochul. He has it in for AOC too, so it should be great political theatre. Ritchie Torres who hates Hochul and wants her job, has already lined himself with Cuomo and the favor will be repaid down the road.

by Anonymousreply 231March 3, 2025 9:03 PM

Cuomo and Kirsten Gillibrand are not fond of each other. Her big accomplishment is forcing Al Franken to resign from the Senate. Franken leaving was a big loss for Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 232March 3, 2025 9:22 PM

Good it's about time we got someone with balls to stand up to Trump

by Anonymousreply 233March 3, 2025 9:52 PM

I think most people who regularly come into contact with Cuomo come to loathe him. I’m sure he and Torres will have a falling out at some point.

by Anonymousreply 234March 3, 2025 9:53 PM

[QUOTE] He is qualified by not being Adams and being a nemesis to Kathy Hochul. He has it in for AOC too, so it should be great political theatre. Ritchie Torres who hates Hochul and wants her job, has already lined himself with Cuomo and the favor will be repaid down the road.

Torres and Cuomo would be a vast improvement over Hochul and Adams.

by Anonymousreply 235March 3, 2025 9:55 PM

Ritchie Torres for Governor and then President.

by Anonymousreply 236March 3, 2025 10:10 PM

Does Ritchie have a boyfriend? He is so handsome and moderate in his politics, yum. Asking for a friend.

by Anonymousreply 237March 4, 2025 12:43 AM

Gov. Hochul just told a reporter she can work with Andrew Cuomo if he is elected NYC mayor. I guess she has a sense of what may be.

by Anonymousreply 238March 4, 2025 1:08 AM

R229: Far too may people on here REFUSE to get over 2016, and have to use that as the lens through which all inter-party battles MUST be viewed. It's sad, frankly. This guy is an incompetent right wing serial sexual assaulter who is only a Democrat cause Daddy was. If he was Andrew Cucelli from Nassau County, he'd be a hardcore Republican.

There are plenty of people in this primary for Mayor who can and will stand up to Trump and not be ANY of these things. Have some goddamn standards, people.

by Anonymousreply 239March 4, 2025 1:17 AM

R239 - who are these plenty of people? Can you list one or two that we can look into? Are any of them polished enough to take on a national stage, because being mayor of NYC is a national stage. Who are you suggesting is ready to do this or capable of rising to the occasion?

by Anonymousreply 240March 4, 2025 9:12 AM

And democrat or republican doesn't matter. Both have been great mayors and both have been really shitty mayors. I mean NYC slipped right through DeBlasio's fingers after two Republican mayors for twenty years. And now you Adams who is a democrat as well.

by Anonymousreply 241March 4, 2025 9:18 AM

DeBlasio was on CNN last night taking shots at Cuomo and came off as a far left woke buffoon. He really doesn't do much for his wing of the party at all.

by Anonymousreply 242March 4, 2025 12:07 PM

For those dismissing Cuomo's gropiness as "old woke news" or whatever, the majority of the Dem primary electorate is women. And they care. You bitter old faggots in flyoverland don't count.

And for those claiming Cuomo is inevitable - AOC would clobber him.

by Anonymousreply 243March 4, 2025 2:22 PM

That’s dumb—-she has no interest in being mayor. She wants to be in the Senate.

by Anonymousreply 244March 4, 2025 2:30 PM

I've heard she has her eye on Albany. She'd have a lot more power there than in the Senate.

But she's smart and canny and drives the Klan Grannies of the DL and the Bill Mahers of the world up the wall so I love her.

by Anonymousreply 245March 4, 2025 3:51 PM

And she’s much more pragmatic than her DL reputation. She may have clashed with Nancy early on, but she learned a few things on how to work “the arena.”

by Anonymousreply 246March 4, 2025 6:04 PM

Ha!

r243 . AOC isn't winning any future elections in NY. She hit the wall with Congress. Are you an advisor to the Democratic Party? Because that would explain alot. Completely deluded.

by Anonymousreply 249March 4, 2025 6:41 PM

“AOC isn't winning any future elections in NY.”

This post will curdle in…20 months. And beyond.

by Anonymousreply 250March 4, 2025 6:45 PM

No it won't. Come back in 20 months or even 4 years. The big worry for NY is a Republican becoming Governor not AOC getting any higher office.

NYC Mayor gets voted on first though. I'm pretty sure Cuomo has it locked down.

by Anonymousreply 251March 4, 2025 6:47 PM

oops, I didn't mean AOC won't get re elected to Congress. But that's the beginning and end of her political career. Maybe in 10 to 15 years things will change.

by Anonymousreply 252March 4, 2025 6:50 PM

It will be Lawler vs. Hochul…if that’s where you’re going.

Lawler has to temper his ambition—him leaving the House to challenge Hochcul is a GIMME for the Democrats to flip another House seat in 2026.

Hochul has to manage expections in Albany. She was off re the initial delay in congestion pricing, but she’s OK on that point now. Trump makes her look good in the current enviroment. The more B.S. Trump throws at NY…it will be a net positive for Hochul.

by Anonymousreply 253March 4, 2025 7:29 PM

AOC managed to knock off the head of the Queens Democratic party with zero money and zero name recognition. Don't underestimate her.

Is she gonna win Staten Island? Nope. But literally everyone in Manhattan, western Queens and white Brooklyn will come out to vote for her. She'll get Dominicans and Puerto Ricans to show up.

She will not get the vote of mean old queens who wish the Carol Burnett Show was still on.

by Anonymousreply 254March 4, 2025 7:29 PM

R254 all irrelevant to her at this point —she’s not gunning for Mayor

by Anonymousreply 255March 4, 2025 7:32 PM

Hochul is a good foil to Trump and his tariffs and how it hurts NY State. She is letting the state know that she is fighting for the people. Mike Lawler will find it tough to win if he runs for Gov. He is a basic Republican asswipe and Trump will bring his numbers down even more. Hopefully he will be washed out of the US House too.

by Anonymousreply 256March 6, 2025 12:31 AM

R254 seems to forget how AOC’s Palestinian stance would go over like a lead balloon with one of the largest Jewish constituencies outside of Israel.

by Anonymousreply 257March 6, 2025 4:50 AM

Said jewish constituency are all republicans anyway.

by Anonymousreply 258March 6, 2025 10:22 AM

All of Manhattan are going to come out for AOC? By white Brooklyn I guess you mean black Brooklyn won’t? As stated it doesn’t matter as she’s not running, but a progressive isn’t going to be the next Mayor of NY. AOC as Governor is ludicrous. She’d be polarizing and lose bigly.

Lawler is vile but I wouldn’t count him out. Lots of stealth Trumpers in NY, not just upstate but Long Island too.

by Anonymousreply 259March 6, 2025 10:47 AM

Is it fair to say that wokeness and the far left wing of the party have hurt the Dem brand badly and it is part of the problem to resolve before the party can win big everywhere again? Clinton and Obama were not woke and they won twice. Those days seem so far away now.

by Anonymousreply 260March 6, 2025 11:22 AM

Not sure why AOC is being mentioned, since she has no bearing on any of this. She's not running for NYC mayor.

by Anonymousreply 261March 6, 2025 12:56 PM

Girls, the Dems won big in 2020. They will win again in 2024. You're being hysterical.

by Anonymousreply 262March 6, 2025 2:07 PM

R258, most Jewish New Yorkers are Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 263March 6, 2025 2:27 PM

You should know that over a third of Jews in greater NYC are Orthodox—most are Haredi.

by Anonymousreply 264March 6, 2025 2:45 PM

And, R264?

by Anonymousreply 265March 6, 2025 3:07 PM

They vote Republican or conservative Democrat. It’s all about Israel.

by Anonymousreply 266March 6, 2025 3:19 PM

The majority of Jews vote Democrat in NYC, not Republican. Not sure what a "conservative Democrat" is, but I assume that means center Democrat.

by Anonymousreply 267March 6, 2025 3:30 PM

The other Adams is stepping into the race. I assume she sees herself as the only viable option to Cuomo, certainly better than the male Adams.

by Anonymousreply 270March 6, 2025 3:43 PM

Who's "she," R269? If you mean AOC, again, she's not running, and Adams is a criminal who is thoroughly corrupt and is now Dump's bitch boy. I can't think of anyone worse than Adams.

The more candidates enter the race, the better for Cuomo.

by Anonymousreply 272March 6, 2025 4:12 PM

Actually it helps at least one other person, and I don’t mean the current mayor. With ranked-choice, a solid second candidate can easily force a run-off.

by Anonymousreply 273March 6, 2025 4:17 PM

According to this, there is no solid second choice. Apart from Cuomo (the frontrunner) and Adams (in the low 2 digits), the rest are all running in the single digits.

Duh—which is why the Speaker has jumped into the race.

by Anonymousreply 275March 6, 2025 4:32 PM

He's hot in an Italian daddy kind of way so I'd definitely vote for him. Imagine him and Luigi!

by Anonymousreply 276March 6, 2025 4:35 PM

The only "Duh" here is in who's going to be the next mayor--Cuomo.

by Anonymousreply 277March 6, 2025 4:39 PM

The few Jews I know in NYC are Orthodox. They voted for Democrats in the 80s and 90s and then switched to the Republicans and are now full MAGA. Is it because they feel the Dems stopped supporting Israel because the far left woke members of the party want to give Palestinians more validity in their struggles and ignore their terroristic methods?

by Anonymousreply 278March 6, 2025 4:44 PM

[quote] The few Jews I know in NYC are Orthodox.

Almost all the Jews I know (and that would be a lot) in NYC are not Orthodox.

Erik will end up dropping out—per Times

Yeah, sure doesn't sound like the scumbag Adams will be running now.

by Anonymousreply 281March 6, 2025 7:34 PM

I read the Times piece and was really surprised he doesn't have a campaign manager signed on yet. That is telling.

by Anonymousreply 282March 6, 2025 8:11 PM

[quote]You should know that over a third of Jews in greater NYC are Orthodox—most are Haredi

A third! Just last week it was a quarter. Boy,they do get busy.

by Anonymousreply 283March 6, 2025 9:28 PM

The Times piece is a bombshell. Didn’t think Adams would give up so easily.

by Anonymousreply 284March 6, 2025 10:11 PM

R284, Adams will be happy to avoid jail. He's hoping his ass-licking of Dump will result in NY, out of pressure from Dump's DOJ, dropping the charges. I hope NY can still make it happen. Has a president ever interfered with a state prosecution of an elected official before? Anyone know?

by Anonymousreply 285March 6, 2025 10:15 PM

R285 you’re all mixed up. There are only federal charges pending. There are no state charges, nor is there any real chance of them coming later.

by Anonymousreply 286March 6, 2025 10:53 PM

Joy Reid has free time and would be a good fit for campaign manager for Mayor A.

by Anonymousreply 287March 6, 2025 11:16 PM

[QUOTE] Adams will be happy to avoid jail. He's hoping his ass-licking of Dump will result in NY, out of pressure from Dump's DOJ, dropping the charges.

Then why doesn’t he just announce that he’s not running again, R286?

by Anonymousreply 288March 7, 2025 2:48 AM

Why would he, R288? At this point, since the DOJ is willing to drop charges and halt any trial, he doesn't that to worry about. It's his abysmal 20% approval rate that sinks him. Give it time. Either he'll drop out before the primary or after. The NY Times article suggests Adams is doing nothing to further his reelection campaign.

by Anonymousreply 289March 7, 2025 11:55 AM

Trump never keeps his word, so if Adams loses the primary, watch the charges come back to life and Adams throws NYC under the bus in his final months.

by Anonymousreply 290March 7, 2025 11:58 AM

How does Adams throw NYC under the bus? He's already agreeing in a quid pro quo to help Dump round up undocumented people. The argument Adams is making is to have charges against him dismissed with prejudice, so he can't be tried after the election itself, whereas the DOJ suggests dismissing the charges without prejudice, so he could be recharged after the election. This is another reason, to answer R288, why Adams would stay in the mayoral race.

by Anonymousreply 291March 7, 2025 12:19 PM

Can someone wheel Rep. Michael Grimm into the conversation? He might have a fighting shot with this band of hooligans. It's a crazy irony of ironies that after threatening to break Michael Scotto in half like a boy (which I am sure made Mr. Scotto cum immediately in his pants) that it was Mr. Grimm's horse that broke HIM in half like a rag doll, paralyzing him.

I will vote for him. His “scandal” was shit. If Trump can be president, Cuomo can be mayor

by Anonymousreply 294May 3, 2025 6:36 PM

Eric Adams is so much more corrupt and incompetent than Cuomo. I miss Mike Bloomberg as mayor. The woke of the party hates him but he did a lot of good for public safety and economic development. He actually wanted people living off the govt. on social service programs to work if they could and take responsibility for their lives which made a lot of sense. Most of that was dismantled by DeBlasio.
