Former Gov Andrew Cuomo Wants to Run for Mayor of New York

[QUOTE] Where’s that nice Kathryn Garcia when you need her?
Wherever she is, she better stay there. If she runs against Cuomo, she’ll be a two-time loser.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 22, 2023 8:49 PM |
I can’t stand the guy, but if he runs he will have a decent chance.
The current mayor isn’t impressing and the previous one was a disaster.
Before Cuomo’s issues interfered, he was generally viewed positively as a governor.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 22, 2023 8:52 PM |
Cuomo? Might as week run Giuliani.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 23, 2023 2:59 AM |
I worked at a restaurant that he visited 20 years ago. He threw a shit fit when the waiter actually presented the check. His party was comped ($2,000 IIRC).
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 23, 2023 3:11 AM |
He’s an entitled bully-cunt, just like his asshole brother.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 23, 2023 3:15 AM |
He would do a good job, better than the other idiots. He can name whatever he wants after his dad if he can clean up the streets.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 23, 2023 3:18 AM |
R7 not at all surprised. I was a huge fan until I had an actual interaction with him. Now I think he’s a despicable POS.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 23, 2023 9:55 AM |
I think Manhattanites would be very skeptical of Cuomo, who played Republicans and Democrats against each other so he could control both parties. Then there is the little matter of sexual harassment claims.
Brooklyn is probably out for him too. Can’t count on the other boroughs though.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 23, 2023 10:29 AM |
I can’t stand him either but name recognition is powerful on Election Day. New Yorkers, despite the rhetoric, have proven themselves time and time again to be pretty unsophisticated voters.

Breaking News: Eric Adams accused of 1993 sexual assault
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 23, 2023 12:49 PM |
I guess it's actual clinical or pathological narcissism but why do these people with these skeleton run? These days, it's impossible to run and keep anything quiet (I hope... I don't want to imagine what's being kept quiet, otherwise, when you consider what gets out there...) Or is it now that a scandal is just table stakes, deny (even when everybody knows you're lying or thinks you're lying) and then brazen it out to run again because you're just so special, even though it's name rec gets you elected? One fucked up mess, the modern age.

Right now people don’t give AF if someone is a slimeball or not. Obviously. They only care if that person’s tendencies are going to work in their favor, or in the favor of what they see as right.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | February 14, 2025 9:51 AM |
Hochul removing Adams would be a bold move. That’s not her style. Politically,, no one in NYC would care. He’s done for. Right now Dems can’t bother with worrying about slime balls. But I’m sure they will. Remember losing is ok if you do the right thing. The losers motto.

From the New York Times:
[QUOTE] Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is considering entering the mayoral race, released a rare campaign-style video on Friday afternoon seemingly reminding New Yorkers that he was waiting in the wings. The video showed Cuomo at a Valentine’s Day event saying “I miss you” to the crowd. He said New Yorkers were worried about the city’s future: “We have been through this before as New Yorkers. We’ve seen the ups. We’ve seen the downs. We know how to make this city work and make this state safe for everyone, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”

Cuomo signed for "No Bail, No Jail" allowing perps to be on streets to do more harm. OKd, Congestion Pricing, now costing $9.00 to drive below 6oth Street. And thousands he sent back to nursing homes where they died of Covid. When questioned, he does the usual Tap Dance with answers that add up to nothing,.

Cuomo will run NYC as a center left Democrat and be fiscally more responsible than the recent leaders and socially more open minded. [quote]^New York City is not MAGAT country, dummies, and the relatives of those who died live here.
You must not be from New York, or spent much time on the UES, Midtown, quiet MAGATS. They aren’t out loud and proud. They will test the temperature of the room with talking about the rise in crime or most recently Columbia U Protests. Then if they find a kindred soul, they are off to the races. MAGATS do exist and live in NYC. Don’t be fooled.

NY state showed the biggest increase in the number of voters who went for Trump. Ditto NJ. and unless the Dems put up a strong candidate, the next Governor of NY will be a Republican. Trump is a loser but unhappy people make bad choices.

The next Governor of NY will not be a Republican.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | February 28, 2025 2:13 PM |
Keep saying that. It depends 100% on who the Dems run. I bet you also thought Harris would win easily.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | February 28, 2025 2:27 PM |
Yes, Cuomo has the baggage. He has his own authoritative style. However, he does have a reputation for getting tasks done. His arrogance aside, I expect, overall, he would be an effective mayor in a good way. Perhaps he has learned his lesson, and will stop the skirt chasing with personnel.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | February 28, 2025 3:00 PM |
I will rank Cuomo, just because it’s more important to me to get Adams out. But he’s far from my preferred candidate. I wish Garcia had run again, because she should have won last time. And very nearly did.
I tend to be very suspicious of close local elections anyway. There was a primary for Queens County DA a few years ago, and on election night, the progressive candidate (Tiffany Caban, who’s on the city council now) was ahead. But amazingly, they “found” a bunch of absentee ballots for the establishment candidate, Melinda Katz, who was borough president at the time. It stank to high heaven.

[quote] NY state showed the biggest increase in the number of voters who went for Trump. Ditto NJ. and unless the Dems put up a strong candidate, the next Governor of NY will be a Republican.
Considering the leading Republican candidate right now is the inept and rather horrifying Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who spent the last two years licking Trump’s taint (including costing the county several million dollars in security for a Trump rally at the Coliseum that was of course not reimbursed) only to be given an “I don’t know her” when Trump was handing out cabinet positions….
I’m pretty sure even Hochul could beat a guy who basically wants his own official force of brownshirts.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | February 28, 2025 5:29 PM |
R165 that’s not how it works with ranked choice. Sure—they rigged hundreds of ballots, in exacly the manner that would re-rank Katz while still looking realistic to the tabulators.
So tedious, so dumb. Katz had the name recognition; she won.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | February 28, 2025 6:00 PM |
That was before ranked choice, dude.
And Katz and Caban were the only candidates.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | February 28, 2025 7:18 PM |
Cuomo would have to get by a Democratic primary in NYC to get the nomination. That will be a challenge.
And even if Trump did better in NYC than before, he lost his home city 70-30. Sounds like it's not MAGA country to me.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | February 28, 2025 7:20 PM |
R168 I stand corrected. My point about Katz as the “name” also stands. Your implied reference to corruption on the Queens ballot, which would entail cheating on a borough race across multiple NYCC districts is utterly ridiculous. You post like a MyPillow man.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | February 28, 2025 7:42 PM |
so much was unknown during Covid, Cuomo will rely on the narrative he was getting advice from professionals, and it is with deep regret that he will always have their deaths to mourn. He will lean into it and not blame others like a Trumper does. I don't think it will cost him the mayor's office if he wants it. He is waiting until the last minute to keep his attacks limited with time. Adams is so corrupt, and it is very fresh in people's minds. Adams did himself no favors with the Trump quid pro quo deal he made. Trump made an ass of him and now Adams brays on command. Just pathetic for NYers.

R171 No. He will do a mea culpa on under-reporting of deaths for “political reasons”…and move on. As will NYC voters in the Democratic primary. To believe that Silwa or any other Republican nominee will beat Cuomo head-to-head is insanity.

openly gay US Rep. Ritchie Torres (Bronx) has pre-endorsed Cuomo and publicly called on him to run. Torres is also hammering away at Kathy Hochul for her soft on crime policies as Gov and maybe thinking about running against her. He is a moderate Dem in a similar district right next to AOC. You almost never see them together or complimenting one another. He is a name to watch because he is going to be more than a US Rep. it seems. One time on a local tv interview, he was asked if he is part of "the squad" and he politely shook his head and said he has too much work to do than to be part of a group, a very clear but subtle dig it seemed.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | March 1, 2025 12:12 PM |

Now--the bigger question is WHY, when there are decent, capable, non-groping candidates for mayor, we can't just elect one of them? Why is every NYC mayor a piece of shit? And why does NYC fall for the biggest piece of shit in evcery mayoral race?
by Anonymous | reply 202 | March 2, 2025 6:38 PM |

R205, no one's stopping him from running, obviously, and the voters will decide and will elect him. I'm saying why can't a non-morally repugnant candidate win? Probably because it's always the candidate with the biggest name recognition or money behind them who wins, every time. NYC voters afre very disappointing that way.
As for Cuomo cleaning up NYC and fixing all its problems--running the largest city in the country takes a skill that Cuomo, as a governor (or any governor, anywhere) might not have. The jury's out there. He sure didn't give a fuck about NYC when he was governor.

It will be Lawler vs. Hochul…if that’s where you’re going.
Lawler has to temper his ambition—him leaving the House to challenge Hochcul is a GIMME for the Democrats to flip another House seat in 2026.
Hochul has to manage expections in Albany. She was off re the initial delay in congestion pricing, but she’s OK on that point now. Trump makes her look good in the current enviroment. The more B.S. Trump throws at NY…it will be a net positive for Hochul.

AOC managed to knock off the head of the Queens Democratic party with zero money and zero name recognition. Don't underestimate her.
Is she gonna win Staten Island? Nope. But literally everyone in Manhattan, western Queens and white Brooklyn will come out to vote for her. She'll get Dominicans and Puerto Ricans to show up.
She will not get the vote of mean old queens who wish the Carol Burnett Show was still on.

Who's "she," R269? If you mean AOC, again, she's not running, and Adams is a criminal who is thoroughly corrupt and is now Dump's bitch boy. I can't think of anyone worse than Adams.

[QUOTE] The other Adams is stepping into the race. I assume she sees herself as the only viable option to Cuomo, certainly better than the male Adams.
The more candidates enter the race, the better for Cuomo.

Actually it helps at least one other person, and I don’t mean the current mayor. With ranked-choice, a solid second candidate can easily force a run-off.
by Anonymous | reply 273 | March 6, 2025 4:17 PM |
According to this, there is no solid second choice. Apart from Cuomo (the frontrunner) and Adams (in the low 2 digits), the rest are all running in the single digits.

Duh—which is why the Speaker has jumped into the race.
by Anonymous | reply 275 | March 6, 2025 4:32 PM |
He's hot in an Italian daddy kind of way so I'd definitely vote for him. Imagine him and Luigi!
by Anonymous | reply 276 | March 6, 2025 4:35 PM |
The only "Duh" here is in who's going to be the next mayor--Cuomo.

The few Jews I know in NYC are Orthodox. They voted for Democrats in the 80s and 90s and then switched to the Republicans and are now full MAGA. Is it because they feel the Dems stopped supporting Israel because the far left woke members of the party want to give Palestinians more validity in their struggles and ignore their terroristic methods?

[quote] The few Jews I know in NYC are Orthodox.
Almost all the Jews I know (and that would be a lot) in NYC are not Orthodox.

Yeah, sure doesn't sound like the scumbag Adams will be running now.
by Anonymous | reply 281 | March 6, 2025 7:34 PM |
I read the Times piece and was really surprised he doesn't have a campaign manager signed on yet. That is telling.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | March 6, 2025 8:11 PM |
[quote]You should know that over a third of Jews in greater NYC are Orthodox—most are Haredi
A third! Just last week it was a quarter. Boy,they do get busy.
by Anonymous | reply 283 | March 6, 2025 9:28 PM |
The Times piece is a bombshell. Didn’t think Adams would give up so easily.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | March 6, 2025 10:11 PM |
R284, Adams will be happy to avoid jail. He's hoping his ass-licking of Dump will result in NY, out of pressure from Dump's DOJ, dropping the charges. I hope NY can still make it happen. Has a president ever interfered with a state prosecution of an elected official before? Anyone know?
by Anonymous | reply 285 | March 6, 2025 10:15 PM |
R285 you’re all mixed up. There are only federal charges pending. There are no state charges, nor is there any real chance of them coming later.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | March 6, 2025 10:53 PM |
Joy Reid has free time and would be a good fit for campaign manager for Mayor A.

[QUOTE] Adams will be happy to avoid jail. He's hoping his ass-licking of Dump will result in NY, out of pressure from Dump's DOJ, dropping the charges.
Then why doesn’t he just announce that he’s not running again, R286?
by Anonymous | reply 288 | March 7, 2025 2:48 AM |
Why would he, R288? At this point, since the DOJ is willing to drop charges and halt any trial, he doesn't that to worry about. It's his abysmal 20% approval rate that sinks him. Give it time. Either he'll drop out before the primary or after. The NY Times article suggests Adams is doing nothing to further his reelection campaign.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | March 7, 2025 11:55 AM |
Trump never keeps his word, so if Adams loses the primary, watch the charges come back to life and Adams throws NYC under the bus in his final months.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | March 7, 2025 11:58 AM |
How does Adams throw NYC under the bus? He's already agreeing in a quid pro quo to help Dump round up undocumented people. The argument Adams is making is to have charges against him dismissed with prejudice, so he can't be tried after the election itself, whereas the DOJ suggests dismissing the charges without prejudice, so he could be recharged after the election. This is another reason, to answer R288, why Adams would stay in the mayoral race.

Can someone wheel Rep. Michael Grimm into the conversation? He might have a fighting shot with this band of hooligans. It's a crazy irony of ironies that after threatening to break Michael Scotto in half like a boy (which I am sure made Mr. Scotto cum immediately in his pants) that it was Mr. Grimm's horse that broke HIM in half like a rag doll, paralyzing him.

Cuomo still has a commanding lead in latest polls
by Anonymous | reply 293 | May 3, 2025 6:14 PM |
I will vote for him. His “scandal” was shit. If Trump can be president, Cuomo can be mayor
by Anonymous | reply 294 | May 3, 2025 6:36 PM |
Eric Adams is so much more corrupt and incompetent than Cuomo. I miss Mike Bloomberg as mayor. The woke of the party hates him but he did a lot of good for public safety and economic development. He actually wanted people living off the govt. on social service programs to work if they could and take responsibility for their lives which made a lot of sense. Most of that was dismantled by DeBlasio.
