Very nice.

Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Thompson, previously known as "Major Johnny" was there too.

by Anonymousreply 4November 22, 2023 3:37 PM

That is a very pretty tiara, but her dress was too matronly and the hair ought to have been up for an event as important as a State dinner. Also, the eye makeup is excessive, which both ages her and hardens her features, while the lipstick shade is too light and makes her look even older by thinning her lips. Her stylist managed to make her look dour, old-fashioned and lazily informal all at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 5November 22, 2023 3:45 PM

Dull. I swear she looks like a thinner Fergie at R3.

by Anonymousreply 6November 22, 2023 4:20 PM

Her facial expression looks very mask-like.

As it should be.

by Anonymousreply 8November 22, 2023 4:34 PM

Wasn't that the Queen Mother's favorite tiara? The gloves look odd worn along with cape sleeves.

by Anonymousreply 9November 22, 2023 4:44 PM

I love her spoof in "The Windsors." That version is descended from Gypsies, and she brings home used appliances to sell in the front yard, and her parents are trashy middle-class oafs.

by Anonymousreply 10November 22, 2023 4:46 PM

Has anyone ever snatched a tiara off of a royal's head in Great Britain or any other country? I'd like to see that.

Or when two tiara wearing royals, get into a spat with fisticuffs, and one says to her second, "Here, hold my tiara!"

by Anonymousreply 11November 22, 2023 4:56 PM

It is a very pretty tiara but I think it would pair better with a flowy, romantic chiffon gown. This gown, while immaculately fitted is more staid.

Gasp

by Anonymousreply 13November 22, 2023 5:11 PM

It’s a beautiful piece but it looks rather juvenile with the floral motif and doesn’t look quite right for Kate’s look.

by Anonymousreply 14November 22, 2023 5:19 PM

I iwsh Kate had some real fashion sense because she shouldn't be in these old lady dresses. This outfit was made for Camilla, not a 40 year old, fit, and youthful princess. Also, look at this Dynasty inspired outfit, with 1980s shoulder pads and hat. Another looks more suited for an old cow like Camilla, not someone like Kate.

I feel like Kate is lead by her style team instead of leading with her own style. With an unlimited budget, she shouldn't have to start dressing like her step-mother in law.

^Samantha Cameron chose a Little House on the Prarie look for a formal State banquet. What was she thinking? I Iike Camilla's perfectly fitted gown. Poor Charles is morphing into Grandpa Munster.

Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon wasn't a great beauty.

by Anonymousreply 18November 22, 2023 5:33 PM

I think Kate looks great. Love the dress and sleeves, gloves and tiara. She can't dress like a ho and would look ridiculous in and probably hates a poofy princess gown, never seen her in one. What the hell is she supposed to wear? So it's usually a column of some kind with different details.

by Anonymousreply 19November 22, 2023 5:35 PM

Are all the European Gotha now Ozempic skinny?

Yet you’re still talking about me. Now stop chattering, you fussy old queen, and get this old Queen a gin and tonic.

by Anonymousreply 21November 22, 2023 5:39 PM

I think the tiara looks good with the dress sleeves. Not too matchy-matchy, but complimentary. I don’t like the earrings with that outfit.

Overall, it’s a little boring but I assume that was the intent. The sash or whatever it’s called has to be worked around, too. That’s limiting. I think that is why some perceive it as too old lady. I don’t think it is. She is in her 40’s and in a role that requires her to reject the current trend of women dressing like sexpots into their 50’s. Overall, she could be a little bolder in her choices (I’m sick of the coat dresses and fitted day dresses), but she’s playing it safe and that’s probably the smarter strategy. Her evening looks are usually spot on. It’s her daytime outfits that are a little boring.

The red outfit is a disaster.

by Anonymousreply 22November 22, 2023 5:40 PM

Yes, the flowers on the tiara are mirroring the embroidery on the gown. The tiara looks so flat, not sparkly. I suppose that's just how it comes out in photos? It doesn't seem like it's super laden with diamonds anyway. What is that, platinum?

I only wore it so it would be in the log-books that I gave it an outing in my lifetime. I'll likely never wear it again, they won't put it on the endless conveyor belt of choices I have for quite some time now. I also heard that Meghan once expressed some interest in it, so it was a slam-dunk that I wear it to remind her of that she, as an 'other royal', will never have access to anything without my expressed agreement going forward. How did that whole puck-drop work out for you the other night Megs? Extra klassy hon!

by Anonymousreply 24November 22, 2023 5:57 PM

The red coat dress is way too voluminous and long. It would look fine if it fit better. The gaping neck is really unfortunate. I like the basic mid-century concept but it overwhelms her.

by Anonymousreply 25November 22, 2023 5:59 PM

I love how some posters have to defend EVERYTHING Kate does, because she's Kate.

There are more than two categories for dresses beyond "old lady" and "ho". What the hell do you all think Kate's been wearing the past decade? Last night's outfit was a miss. The hair in a ponytail is a no. The makeup too harsh. But the dress was just bad with the gloves and the horrible draping on the shoulders. I assume she was paying homage to parts of Camilla's coronation gown or something, but uh.

Kate has some fabulous looks that are conservative and youthful. Please stop thinking anyone expects her to dress like a "ho". Here is an example.

Kate wore the red dress before in December of 2021 when attending a Christmas carol service. (Link below)

The other day she was wearing a long cape over the dress.

At R26, that was probably the best long dress I’ve seen her in. She should wear it again.

by Anonymousreply 28November 22, 2023 8:10 PM

I knew one of you bitches would ID the tiara for us.

by Anonymousreply 29November 22, 2023 8:20 PM

R26, this was a formal state dinner for a visiting head of state. Kate was representing the British state and was dressed entirely appropriately for that role. What you suggested is entirely inappropriate for a state event.

by Anonymousreply 30November 22, 2023 8:24 PM

I like the tiara. It’s understated.

You can really tell how inbred she is here. Nothing uglier than a British royal. Yuck.

by Anonymousreply 34November 23, 2023 12:28 AM

Always stunning, Always a class act unlike the toad smarkle.

by Anonymousreply 35November 23, 2023 12:29 AM

How is she inbred? She married into the royal family.

by Anonymousreply 36November 23, 2023 6:01 AM

R33

How DARE you post this? We need PRIVACY and SECURITY! My husband married a Black woman!!!

by Anonymousreply 37November 23, 2023 1:42 PM

R34 you are so clueless it’s just embarrassing.

It’s a nice enough ensemble, just not a big fan of the cut of the sleeves, and I think the evening gloves are a tad too long.

by Anonymousreply 38November 23, 2023 2:16 PM

At first I thought it was merely boring, now I actually think it's ugly. The shoulder pads and sleeves are ugly. They always insist on making the women look like old matrons. Even their teens dress like the old Queen mother
