Felt for the longest time like it would be this earth-shattering event when it finally happened. But the more we're removed from it, the more it seems that actually no, the British monarch is kinda irrelevant? Both at home and in the global context. Feels like an illusion bursting, both freeing and sobering at the same time.

R1, the British monarchy has been around for 1000 years with, for the vast majority of the time, an incredibly smooth system of succession, which ensures that everything stays the same as things change. The King is dead, long live the King. The change from one monarch to another isn't meant to be earth shattering - it's meant to ensure stability.

R17 this is because monarchy is always more interesting with a woman in the role. In every way, their outfits are more interesting, the dynamic of a woman in charge is always interesting, and it’s just all around better.

When I see monarchies with kings it sort of seems boring. Their wives are always more interesting to the eye with tiaras, jewels and color to their clothing.
