Sophia Petrillo. Funny, yes. But, really, what a cunt.

Season 3, episode 20: Sophia essentially ruins a very deep and beautiful relationship with Raymond because she’s lonely. And she knowingly allows her daughter to break up with him thinking she’d be alone that weekend, all the while she is packing for Cancun with Duncan and her other new friends.

And instead of apologizing, she tells Dorothy, her daughter, thanks for always being there but hell, I have a life to life.

Selfish cunt.

I agree. Just one of the reasons why I hate the Marc Cherry years and love the first two seasons of the show. Focusing just on Dorothy and Sophia, their relationship was loving with some playful digs at each other. Remember the scene where they're in the kitchen, talking about the set of dishes Sophia gave Dorothy when she married Stan? It's very sweet, then ends with Sophia pushing her daughter away, but they're both smiling. Scenes like that and the one when Dorothy breaks down crying to Blanche when they think Sophia is going to die of a heart attack. Then season three started, and they were all cartoonish caricatures of what they were previously. This just worsened and they became more exaggerated and more removed from the original intents. It was just silly and anything for a laugh, even if that meant turning a loving mother into a selfish cunt who constantly tore down her daughter.

Don’t forget that she always called me a slut. I was merely a woman enjoying her sexuality.

Sophia was my least favorite character. They should have killed her off and focused on the other three.

I can’t stand that bitch. Almost ruined the entire series.

r4, I love all seasons but I have found myself just rewatching the first two seasons. Over and over. All the reasons exactly as you describe.

Sophia was hateful.

The pilot did suck too.

I watched GG in reruns, skipping around in seasons.

I never noticed the progression of Sophia's character & her relationship w/Dorothy.

However, I think the scripts became more and more mean towards Dorothy / Bea (she became the butt of mean jokes too many times).
