Dolly Parton's "Rockstar" album
It came out this morning and I'm enjoying it — a country-gospel version of "Purple Rain," Dolly covering Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker" and Blondie's "Heart of Glass" with the original artists singing backup, and surprisingly "What's Going On?" is a perfect Dolly song. Some of the reviews are calling it karaoke, but so what?
A couple of clunks (who wants to hear Dolly sing Lynyrd Skynyrd? Yecch) but overall it's a lot of fun, especially Pink and Brandi Carlile teaming up with Dolly on "Satisfaction."
Who's heard it? It's on all the streaming services, I suppose.

I sampled a few of the songs earlier, and will sit and give the whole thing a listen later. All the songs are on Dolly's YouTube channel for those interested.
"Karaoke" was the word that sprung to my mind as well, unfortunately. I would have rather had Dolly solo on all the songs instead of having the original artists on almost all of them. It's like Dolly didn't have the nerve to fully commit to interpreting the songs herself, which is what I wanted and expected. Such a missed opportunity.
Of what I've heard so far, I like Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me the best. I turned it off once Elton started warbling. Nothing against him, I just wanted Dolly.

I just listened to it. The voice is shaky (shades of Loretta Lynn/Jack White) but there are revelations like that Purple Rain cover has I Will Always Love You heartbreak layered in. I’d like to see how she’d do on her own with original material.
