He now seems likely not to make it even through one full term, so board of directors appointments or lobbying job offers seem unlikely.
What will George Santos do after leaving the House of Representatives?

The good news is that to be entitled to ANY congressional pension, one must serve at least FIVE yrs; thus a one term Senator is entitled, but NOT a one term Congressman ( looking at you George, or whoever …)
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 17, 2023 11:28 PM |
As FactCheck.org notes, members of the House of Representatives - who are up for reelection every two years - would not be able to collect pensions of any amount if they only served one term. U.S. senators, on the other hand, serve six-year terms and would be able to collect pensions after one full term. But the pensions wouldn't equal their full salaries.

Republicans seem to have no vetting process to speak of. Or is it that they are so desperate for minority politicians that people like him and confirmed bachelor Tim Scott are just waved on in?

Neither. They certainly weren't looking for a minority candidate when they overlooked T-Rump's long and tawdry history of bending the rules to shore up his pathetic finances. To the modern Republican party con-artistry and fraud are praiseworthy.

To add to r44, the Democrats seem to have no opposition research or thought none was needed. Was his district thought to a safe seat? Very sloppy because some of his shenanigans could have been easily uncovered.

Well I certainly hope he'll go to prison. If that doesn't happen I'm hoping he'll go on the lam and leave the country, never to be seen or heard from again.

No, as I recall, his opponent did have a bunch of stuff on him, but it somehow never got released.

The New York Democratic operation is a disaster. How many seats flipped to R there in 2022??

I'm trying to picture a newly svelte Santos (thanks to a well-regulated prison diet) paroled and living in a halfway house however many years from now and fulfilling the terms of his probation by enrolling in vocational training to learn a trade like plumbing or auto mechanics... Nah.
I could see him trying to use his old notoriety and newfound figure to turn Kitara into an act. He can pen an autobiography "My Life and Lessons Learned: From Copacabana to Corcoran" to shill when he takes his act on the road and the talk show circuit. But he'll be largely forgotten by then.

Santos's 2022 opponent did do oppo research and it did get into the local press, but they didn't uncover the whole sordid story and there were other factors obscuring the issues—the congressional election in NY that year was a mess for the Democrats. Hope they get their act together next time.
