Dana Carvey's Son Dex Is DEAD To Me!

I didn't actually even know Dana Carvey had a son, but he's DEAD.

That's awful. Dana put his career on hold to raise his sons

by Anonymousreply 1November 17, 2023 2:00 AM

R1 - mmm....that's what he says. It's not like there were so many offers after SNL.

by Anonymousreply 2November 17, 2023 2:01 AM

He did tho. His kid looked at him and said "You were gone a long time dad" and it just crushed him and he retired

by Anonymousreply 3November 17, 2023 2:03 AM

Looked very douchebro-ey.

by Anonymousreply 4November 17, 2023 2:04 AM

[quote] Dana put his career on hold to raise his sons

Sounds like he did a piss-poor job of it, if one of them OD'ed.

He should have kept working.

Is it your contention that everyone who’s used drugs had lousy parents?

by Anonymousreply 8November 17, 2023 3:00 AM

Why is it being called an accidental overdose when he locked himself in the bathroom?

by Anonymousreply 9November 17, 2023 3:02 AM

Chet Hanks is next.

by Anonymousreply 10November 17, 2023 3:03 AM

What an ignorant piece of shit you are, r5.

by Anonymousreply 11November 17, 2023 3:10 AM

This is shaping up to be another classy DL farewell.

by Anonymousreply 12November 17, 2023 3:17 AM

Most people lock the door behind them when they do drugs

by Anonymousreply 13November 17, 2023 3:24 AM

You know this how, R2? Do tell.

by Anonymousreply 14November 17, 2023 3:37 AM

Named after the sugar ‘Dextrose’

by Anonymousreply 15November 17, 2023 4:07 AM

Rick Moranis also dropped out of show biz to raise his kids. It happens.

by Anonymousreply 16November 17, 2023 4:20 AM

I’m hating DL right now.

by Anonymousreply 17November 17, 2023 4:30 AM

No matter the cause of death, losing a child is devastating for the parents and family. Have some compassion.

Also worth mentioning is the utter ignorance here regarding addiction. Again, show some compassion and do some research on addiction.

by Anonymousreply 18November 17, 2023 4:30 AM

I like Dana. His comedy isn’t always to my taste, but I like him as a person (at least as he expresses himself in his podcast.) This is very sad.

His kid probably never should have gone into comedy. He should have carved out his own niche. He was never going to match his father’s success.

by Anonymousreply 19November 17, 2023 4:31 AM

As far as I recall, Dana and family lived in the Bay Area and Santa Ynez. So, it appears they were trying to avoid raising their kids in LA. That would have been the smart thing to do.

Santa Ynez is FULL of drugs, though. I lived in that area for 5 years and the druggies were everywhere. I don’t know if his kids grew up there, though.

by Anonymousreply 20November 17, 2023 4:36 AM

Dana is such a sweet guy, I have genuine sympathy for him.

by Anonymousreply 21November 17, 2023 5:59 AM

A good friend lost his youngest teen son to drugs (likely taken as a refuge from homophobic bullying).

Derailed my friend’s life and practically destroyed his marriage.

by Anonymousreply 22November 17, 2023 6:09 AM

According to Hader and Armisen, that Californians skit from SNL is based on him. One of them heard him giving directions to his father with that accent.

by Anonymousreply 23November 17, 2023 10:08 AM

This is sad - Dana seems like a decent, family-oriented guy. RIP Dex.

by Anonymousreply 24November 17, 2023 11:57 AM

[quote] Rick Moranis also dropped out of show biz to raise his kids. It happens.

Rick’s wife died. Dana’s didn’t. Dana divorced his first wife and married #2 in 1983.

by Anonymousreply 25November 17, 2023 3:10 PM

I remember seeing a stand up he did when his boys were still toddlers. I don’t have any kids but the stuff he did on parenting and what it’s like raising two little boys was genuinely hilarious. Years later I saw a stand up he did where he talked about his kids who were now teenagers. Again so funny and not to sound cheesy but there was a genuine sweetness when he talked about them both times too.

by Anonymousreply 26November 17, 2023 3:19 PM

*sorry not toddlers but around the age of 5 or 6 I think.

by Anonymousreply 27November 17, 2023 3:20 PM

[quote] According to Hader and Armisen, that Californians skit from SNL is based on him

Sirry-ezly?

by Anonymousreply 28November 17, 2023 3:21 PM

Sorry Dana, that's terrible news.

by Anonymousreply 29November 17, 2023 3:24 PM

[quote] Dana divorced his first wife and married #2 in 1983.

His second wife is the mother of his children and they are still married. His first wife was his childhood sweetheart. Not terribly surprising they ended up divorcing.

by Anonymousreply 30November 17, 2023 3:27 PM

[quote]According to Hader and Armisen, that Californians skit from SNL is based on him

I can’t un-see that now. How is it that Dana never made a cameo in one of those sketches?

by Anonymousreply 31November 17, 2023 3:45 PM

Dana is a nice guy who has been done dirty by a few of his coworkers

by Anonymousreply 32November 17, 2023 4:07 PM

There’s a rumor that Mike Myers used Dana’s impression of Lorne Michaels for Dr. Evil, and never talked to Dana about it or acknowledged he was doing an impression of Dana’s impression. I think that may be one of the coworkers you’re referring to, R32?

by Anonymousreply 33November 17, 2023 4:16 PM

[quote] According to Hader and Armisen, that Californians skit from SNL is based on him

Armisen says he based his character on Dana Carvey doing an impersonation of his son.

As it turns out, Armisen has fellow SNL alum Dana Carvey mocking his own son to thank for the idea. He explained the sketch’s origin story on Carvey and David Spade’s podcast Fly on the Wall.

“I had seen Dana—I was with him and we did a stand-up show in San Francisco—and Dana was telling me about his son,” Armisen said. “And he’s just like, ‘It’s hard to be mad at him,’ because, I think he got pulled over or something. He does this impression of his son and he goes, ‘No, but, no, Dad, no, you don’t,’ you know? And, from that, as we were trying to do a California accent, as we’re writing the sketch, that kind of came up.”

This is terrible and I can’t imagine how Dana must feel. I watched a Netflix stand up show he did where he discusses being a dad and that his son was a comedian and it was Dex that he was referring to.

by Anonymousreply 35November 17, 2023 5:02 PM

That wasn't mocking, r34.

by Anonymousreply 36November 17, 2023 5:04 PM

I thought the sketch came from the cast always sharing with each other routes to take to avoid heavy traffic when they are in LA. It became such a frequent topic of conversation that it became a joke that turned into a skit.

by Anonymousreply 37November 17, 2023 5:05 PM

Dana Carvey also took to social media to share photos of his son. One was captioned, "F*** the tabloids. This is my boy," and featured a picture of Dex Carvey smiling. Another showed a picture of father and son, with Dana Carvey writing, "Dex and me working together. What a joy."

Sad. Addiction sucks.

by Anonymousreply 38November 17, 2023 5:51 PM

[quote] That wasn't mocking, [R34].

Who said it was?

by Anonymousreply 39November 17, 2023 8:14 PM

Wow, this is unbelievably devastating for a parent. On a separate note. I can't believe Dana Carvey is almost 70.

by Anonymousreply 40November 18, 2023 12:13 AM

Dana posted a thank you today.

by Anonymousreply 42November 19, 2023 2:19 AM

What drugs did he take? Dana is saying it was accidental.

by Anonymousreply 43November 20, 2023 12:06 PM

Probably powder drugs that are now littered with fentanyl

by Anonymousreply 44November 20, 2023 12:43 PM

Musty priapism, forsaken dog

by Anonymousreply 45November 20, 2023 12:50 PM

Anyone remembers Lyle, the effeminate heterosexual skits? That stuff wouldn't fly today

It wouldn't be accepted by gay men, you mean R46. It would be "offensive" and "homophobic" because any time a man acts effeminate or flamboyant it's assumed it's making fun of gay men.

by Anonymousreply 47November 20, 2023 9:00 PM

R47, I am guessing that most gay men would enjoy it or dismiss it as harmless, depending on who was doing it and how it was being done.

The queers, however…

by Anonymousreply 48November 20, 2023 10:54 PM

I only made it halfway through. Not offensive, just not funny.
