It’s mind boggling that a wild animal wouldn’t have eaten the man’s corpse or that the dog would have survived next to a decaying corpse without attracting a predator. Something doesn’t make sense.

Perhaps Finny didn't lie right by the body. One assumes it had to hunt and forage. I bet he had found a hole or small niche in rock ledges, somewhere to sleep and protect himself. He returned when there were people discovering the body.

According to friends who have them, Jack Russells are “ratters” that sometimes attack and kill other animals. The dog may well have kept some scavengers away.

Why are people assuming that the hikers body wasn't being eaten on by animals? I don't think it says that anywhere unless I missed it. Just because he was found doesn't mean he was found...whole.

What is known about dogs eating their masters? Are they more likely to eat them if they have caught them bottoming?
