Let me preface this by saying I've never liked Richard Mulligan. I know he has several fans here on DL, but there was always something about him that was off putting to me. Kristy, on the other hand, there was always something I liked very much about her. She had a good sense of comic timing and delivery, besides she just seems like a very good person.

So it was no surprise to me when I heard Mulligan for some reason had gone off on her multiple times, criticizing her acting abilities in immature and bullying terms, usually in front of others to humiliate her. Stories found their ways into tabloids at the time, but no one really gave them much credit for obvious reasons. These attacks were the final straw which led to Kristy retiring from acting to get a grip on her life and her manic-depression. Also, when Mulligan initiated the attacks, Rue McClanahan cast Kristy in the "Bride" series of tv movies she produced, as a moral booster.
