BREAKING: Iceland declares state of emergency over volcanic eruption threat
by Anonymous | reply 90 | December 7, 2023 3:41 PM |
Who knows. I'm not saying this is it, but when Mother Nature does decide to level us, I'm thinking it will be abruptly.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 11, 2023 5:50 AM |
Iâm all for anything that breaks up the monotony of daily boredom and greed in the world. I never like to get my hopes up for world-changing events though, because Iâm always disappointed when nothing happens or when things inevitably just go back to the status quo. If I canât see full scale of nuclear war or complete societal collapse during my lifetime, I at least want to witness either a massive planetary impact or an eruption with global effects. A giant tsunami wouldnât hurt either. Something FFS đ

Oh cool! I remember when the last Icelandic volcano with the unpronounceable name erupted about ten years ago and all flights in Europe were grounded for something like the days. My boss was in Europe when it happened and it gave us all a very nice ten day reprieve!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 11, 2023 6:11 AM |
Eyjafjallajökull. And it was 2010. Good times.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 11, 2023 6:13 AM |
This won't be an explosive eruption, just an oozer.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 11, 2023 6:33 AM |
I wanted a boom, an earth-shattering kaboom.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 11, 2023 6:40 AM |
I at least want to witness the most life altering force of this planet - love.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 11, 2023 6:42 AM |
I think we should drop a nuke in it.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 11, 2023 6:45 AM |
I was just watching a program about the formation of Earth.
Too many volcanic eruptions at once blanket the ozone layer with methane and carbon dioxide , which deflect the sunâs warmth and cause centuries long ice ages.
Keep your sweaters handy. And stock up on canned goods. 90% of plant and animal life will go extinct.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 11, 2023 7:25 AM |
Richard, I will not have you erupting. Itâs very lower-middle class.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 11, 2023 8:17 AM |
Just lay on the couch and let it blow.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 11, 2023 9:03 AM |
When you choose to live on an active volcano those are the chances you take
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 11, 2023 11:48 AM |
Itâs Iceland. Thereâs always a volcano erupting.

by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 11, 2023 12:42 PM |
Me too, r9!
"Nova" on PBS., just a couple of weeks ago.
It blew my mind (get it? "blew") to learn that I was wrong.
I just assumed that Space, when Earth was created, basically decided, "Oh, and Earth? Here. Over time, I'll dole out a little troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere and exosphere. Those will help with that life-creating thingy."
But no. All of that was created by Earth!
I coulda fell out of my Barca-lounger.

Who thought a scenic, peaceful little place like Iceland would be the worldâs undoing?
I wonder if theyâre just doing it for attention.

An Icelandic volcanic eruption in the late 18th century led to an extended cold period and famine in Europe which may have contributed to the French Revolution.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 12, 2023 7:34 AM |
Theyâre trouble. And should be shunned.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 12, 2023 5:05 PM |
The 2010 eruption in Iceland cause huge disruption of both trans Atlantic air travel and Western Europe's air travel.
