Streisand on Howard Stern

Who in the 90s would ever have thought these two would unite? Here she is bitching about Gypsy. She also said she’ll never perform publicly again.

Oh, how things change! I remember how he used to make fun of her looks. As if he's one to talk.

by Anonymousreply 1November 8, 2023 8:51 PM

Stop posting BS threads! She’s not popular or interesting and I’m not going to read her shit book!

by Anonymousreply 2November 8, 2023 8:54 PM

^She's like butta! GFYS

by Anonymousreply 3November 8, 2023 8:55 PM

What R3 said. Ditto for me.

They look more and more like each other.

She tells Howard she was going to direct a movie about a love triangle in the context of the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire.

by Anonymousreply 7November 8, 2023 9:11 PM

Howard used to make fun of her all the time, and talk about how she was a “yenta” and how ridiculous she was with “the hair, and the nails, and only look at my left side. Who can stand it?”

by Anonymousreply 8November 8, 2023 9:18 PM

R7 - Actually that sounds good!! I have to head over to you tube - back in the late 70s wasn’t there a movie about it? Why am I thinking that Cynthia Nixon was in it. ….

by Anonymousreply 18November 16, 2023 1:01 PM

I am upset to hear that she will never perform again. I never got to see her :(. My mom and I love us some Babs.

by Anonymousreply 19November 16, 2023 1:15 PM

She must be desperate to sell her book.

by Anonymousreply 20November 16, 2023 1:36 PM

Interesting, this is probably the most open I've ever seen her in an interview.

by Anonymousreply 21November 16, 2023 1:51 PM

The best interview she has given so far during her stay at home book tour.

by Anonymousreply 22November 16, 2023 1:52 PM

There's such a stark difference between Howard's interview and the Terry Gross interview. Barbra was brittle from Terry's first question. That's the one a friend (who owns all of her work) heard so of course he is horrified at the idea of a 2.5 hour long interview and won't be buying the book. Colbert is kinda fun, that might suggest to him that the audio book would be a good listen. Her book/deadly weapon sized tome is charting better than I expected because Barbra the person isn't nearly as charismatic or interesting as Barbra the performer and she's very hit and miss in interviews purposefully scheduled to sell 1,000 pages.

Could never live in that house on the cliff, I'd be obsessed that one great rain storm would take out the cliff and house with it in the middle of the night

by Anonymousreply 24November 16, 2023 2:17 PM

People need to stop ragging on Howard Stern. He’s the best interviewer out there today.

by Anonymousreply 25November 16, 2023 3:18 PM

His "shock jock" days were decades ago.

by Anonymousreply 30November 16, 2023 7:31 PM

Howard Stern is bullshit white bread now. He rolled his body in the scat that dropped from the ass end of America’s Got Talent and now here we are.

by Anonymousreply 31November 17, 2023 12:03 AM

A lot of people mellow as they age.

You mean "a guy's gaping hairy hole." Quite a tongue-twister!

by Anonymousreply 39November 17, 2023 6:12 AM

Honestly she must be desperate to sell that book to have anything to do with Stern. I don’t care if his shock jock days are over he’s a POS. If she fancies herself as feminist it’s a little degrading.

by Anonymousreply 40November 17, 2023 6:14 AM

Poor R40 still living in the 80's.

by Anonymousreply 41November 17, 2023 11:41 AM

Did Stern have Barbra throw boloney at a stripper?

by Anonymousreply 42November 17, 2023 8:31 PM

Weirder still, Howard just had Dolly Parton on his show.

by Anonymousreply 43November 17, 2023 10:23 PM

She made a mistake in talking about "The Owl And the Pussycat". She said she said "fuck" and it automatically got an X rating. In those days one uttered fuck got an automatic R as it was initially released. Soon after she dubbed it out and it was re-rated PG

by Anonymousreply 44November 17, 2023 11:27 PM

Actually, for whatever reason, Pussycat was going to get an X rating. It was released as an R, however. I read it in a magazine article, quite possibly the 1970 Newsweek cover story.

by Anonymousreply 45November 18, 2023 10:26 PM

R29- She briefly had a modicum of curb appeal- mainly the nice RACK

What's her name- Bette Midler was ALWAYS DUMPY and average looking. She never had any curb appeal even when she was young.

by Anonymousreply 46November 18, 2023 11:42 PM

A nice "rack"? Barbra Streisand was a ordinary B CUP. Nothing out of the ordinary, and certainly nothing anyone would call a "nice rack," (like my grandfather talked). R46, you may want to read up on push up bras and stuffed bras - the kind Barbra used before silicone.

by Anonymousreply 47November 18, 2023 11:59 PM

Barbra’s ass was her best feature.

by Anonymousreply 48November 19, 2023 12:29 AM

When was the interview? Did they talk about Israel?

by Anonymousreply 49November 19, 2023 12:35 AM

Sarah Jessica Parker’s looks are on par with Barbra’s and she got some very hot guys in her youth and is still considered “gorgeous” by more than you would think. Babs is far more wealthy and talented than SJP.

by Anonymousreply 50November 19, 2023 12:35 AM

R48 = Barbra

by Anonymousreply 51November 19, 2023 12:57 AM

What year was Gypsy supposed to happen? SJP could’ve been Louise.

by Anonymousreply 52November 19, 2023 12:57 AM

Merv Griffin died too soon.

by Anonymousreply 53November 19, 2023 2:14 AM

Well guess he should go back to jokes about women are “cunts” and gays are “fags” since R40 says redemption is not possible. Cancel culture cunt! Don’t you have a Palestinian rally to go to?

by Anonymousreply 54November 19, 2023 3:03 AM

[quote] Sarah Jessica Parker’s looks are on par with Barbra’s and she got some very hot guys in her youth and is still considered “gorgeous” by more than you would think. Babs is far more wealthy and talented than SJP.

SJP is a stick figure. Babs had body.

by Anonymousreply 55November 19, 2023 4:15 AM

R44, she did not dub it out- can you read?

by Anonymousreply 56November 19, 2023 4:29 AM

If Barbra put the moves on me anytime up to c.2000 I would have thought about it! In her 1994 concerts she's still very sexy. I couldn't point to any one feature but the overall package is very alluring. I've never been with a woman so if I'd stop and think.....maybe then the majority of straight men would have jumped on her on a second.

by Anonymousreply 57November 19, 2023 2:12 PM

When I was 16 I was over at a friend’s house. They were going through the channels and Funny Girl was on. Her very attractive 40 year old brother said “She is SOOO pretty! I would run away with her if I could.” I was surprised because I didn’t know anyone thought she was pretty.

by Anonymousreply 58November 19, 2023 2:31 PM

R58 the brother was gay.

And 24 years is a hell of an age gap

by Anonymousreply 59November 19, 2023 5:01 PM

The reason Barbra Streisand has men interested in her - she's RICH and FAMOUS. Works every time. If she can get them a job, better.

by Anonymousreply 60November 19, 2023 5:08 PM

R59 the mom had 7 kids over 25 years starting at 14

by Anonymousreply 61November 19, 2023 7:36 PM

Her book flopped. Next.

by Anonymousreply 62November 19, 2023 8:04 PM

Her book flopping was completely predictable.

by Anonymousreply 63November 20, 2023 3:09 AM

Book came out 30 years too late

by Anonymousreply 64November 20, 2023 4:17 AM

She looks like AI... her face is all smoothed out- very strange.

by Anonymousreply 65November 20, 2023 4:51 AM

Babs was #6 overall and 55,322 copies sold first week.

Britney’s bio sold 81k last week, still #3 last week coming off #1 and 633k copies sold overall.

Streisand might have steady sales into the holidays with the eldergays and Fraus hitting the stores. But definitely not the hit it would have been a decade ago, she’s lost alot of fans to old age in those 10 years.

by Anonymousreply 66November 20, 2023 6:02 AM

If she was going to be in Gypsy how old was she supposed to have been when she gave birth to those two little girls?

by Anonymousreply 67November 20, 2023 6:09 AM

R7 Meanwhile she makes it sound like the “movie they made of it” ended that yet…but it was a TV movie. A 1970s TV movie. I mean, it was good but it was small screen. The topic could easily have been a feature. But yes R7 a love triangle would have been as tacky as “Holocaust: A Love Story.”

by Anonymousreply 68November 20, 2023 6:18 AM

Nobody is “reading” a 1000-page autobiography or listening to a 48-hour+ (!) audiobook in 2023, except those who appreciate true artists and what they do, which is what Barbra stands for and is. Its sad culture has declined so precipitously, but a quick read easy Christmas present is all the sales really stand for… a book ghostwritten and not even “reading” audiobook. Barbra wrote her autobiography herself and it’s her story. In 2023, Britney ghostwritten pablum after her mentally ill conservatoriship era is what people want.

by Anonymousreply 69November 20, 2023 6:33 AM

She felt the TV movie on the Triangle Factory Fire stole her film's thunder but not the same about the film she wanted to make about Margaret Bourke White, though that too was made as a TV movie with Farrah Fawcett.

by Anonymousreply 70November 20, 2023 6:46 AM

R65 that’s the new norm for women. As soon as a wrinkle shows up, get something done to smooth it out. Apparently it makes them feel young and beautiful forever. Even if they have never been beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 71November 20, 2023 12:50 PM

R69, you can help. Buy 100 copies!

by Anonymousreply 72November 20, 2023 1:37 PM

[quote] Britney’s bio sold 81k last week, still #3 last week coming off #1 and 633k copies sold overall

Britney’s bio is basically a pamphlet. The audio book is eight hours.

by Anonymousreply 73November 20, 2023 4:30 PM

I like some of her songs and movies but she sounds like a lot to deal with on a regular basis. It’s best to admire her from a distance.

by Anonymousreply 74November 20, 2023 4:42 PM

I'm surprised not just by the numbers, but the longevity of Britney's autobiography on the top of the list.

But Britney's will eventually wind up in Little Lending Libraries. I suspect Babs' will not.

by Anonymousreply 75November 20, 2023 4:58 PM

There’d be no room in a Little Lending Library for such a weighty tome as Streisand’s autobiography.

by Anonymousreply 76November 20, 2023 5:13 PM

[quote]Its sad culture has declined so precipitously

Yeah. 44 years ago there was no Streisand book, but we had glorious movies like The Main Event and her LP Wet.

by Anonymousreply 77November 20, 2023 5:29 PM

The #1 albums right now on Spotify are by Bad Bunny, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, and Post Malone who has tattoos on his face.

by Anonymousreply 78November 21, 2023 2:00 AM

(#s 1-4)

by Anonymousreply 79November 21, 2023 2:00 AM

Howard has really turned out some great interviews in recent years. He's obviously mellowed on the people he used to rag on, like Madonna, Barbra, and Rosie, and they've all gone on his show and given some of their best interviews.

by Anonymousreply 80November 21, 2023 3:07 AM

[quote] Yeah. 44 years ago there was no Streisand book, but we had glorious movies like The Main Event and her LP Wet....Waiting for some one to say they were HITS!

The "Wet" album peaked at No. 7 on the US, Canadian and Australian charts and has been certified as Platinum by the RIAA. It featured the No. 1 hit single, "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)", a duet with American disco singer Donna Summer

by Anonymousreply 81November 21, 2023 3:17 AM

WET featured a #1 song with no less than Donna Summer at height of disco duetting with Barbra; thank you R81 for reminding us.

by Anonymousreply 82November 21, 2023 3:29 AM

She doesn't understand people who idolize her. She doesn't understand people who idolize anyone who is a stranger. She's just not wired that way. So the adoration she used to get from the gay community, and from say lonely women like Rosie O'Donnell just makes her feel uncomfortable. She doesn't know what to do with it, or about it. You know what I mean?

by Anonymousreply 83November 22, 2023 4:52 AM

There's a difference between blind idolization an appreciation of voice and artistry.

by Anonymousreply 84November 22, 2023 6:40 AM

That Dolly Parton interview was great. I haven't heard that much from her ever. His first McCartney interview was great too.

by Anonymousreply 85November 22, 2023 12:33 PM

I don't know her.

by Anonymousreply 86November 22, 2023 12:42 PM

A star all of her adult life and she still doesn’t get fan adulation? Yet she sells her shit to them, she’s dependent on them to buy her book.

by Anonymousreply 87November 22, 2023 2:06 PM

R87 to be clear, she gets appreciating somone's talent. What she doesn't get is Rosie O'Donnell talking about how important she was in her life growing up. She doesn't see how a person you never met can hold such importance.

by Anonymousreply 88November 23, 2023 2:08 AM

She’s an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 89November 23, 2023 11:03 AM

Hi Lainie/r89!!

by Anonymousreply 90November 23, 2023 11:49 AM

[quote]A star all of her adult life and she still doesn’t get fan adulation?

Not like most people do. She was obsessed with Brando and and would spend the day at the movies watching his movies over and over, even having to sit thru the second feature. BUT she got to have a friendship with him and he became a person and came down from the pedestal.

by Anonymousreply 91November 23, 2023 11:56 AM

She’s divine, R91.

by Anonymousreply 92November 23, 2023 1:26 PM

R69 Good lord. Her talent was subverted for artless films & middle of the road pop junk. Babs still pissed at her mother is mental illness.

by Anonymousreply 93November 23, 2023 4:14 PM

I'm trying to slog my way through the book because she has lived an amazing life, but god, it is hard. She goes into such depth on subjects/histories that are not that interesting. The YENTL chapter is interminable. There is the occasional interesting insight on herself and she seems to understand the level of her damage and how it's impacted others. She also is an obsessive artists and makes no apologies for that. I can't imagine how Brolin lives with her. Seems impossible.

by Anonymousreply 94November 23, 2023 4:31 PM

That's sarcasm at R92, btw

by Anonymousreply 95November 23, 2023 8:03 PM

[quote]She goes into such depth on subjects/histories that are not that interesting.

Same thing with Faye Dunaway.

by Anonymousreply 96November 25, 2023 9:22 PM

I haven't read all of it, but from what I have read, the tone of her book is "nice", "humble" very loving of so many people. It doesn't seem like Barbra. It's like she studied how to write an autobiography from reading Lauren Bacall's.

by Anonymousreply 97November 25, 2023 10:40 PM

Does Barbra mention anything about how her father’s death affected her?

by Anonymousreply 98November 26, 2023 12:06 AM

I can’t help but like someone who is as passionate about noshing as her career.
