Who in the 90s would ever have thought these two would unite? Here she is bitching about Gypsy. She also said she’ll never perform publicly again.

Howard used to make fun of her all the time, and talk about how she was a “yenta” and how ridiculous she was with “the hair, and the nails, and only look at my left side. Who can stand it?”

The best interview she has given so far during her stay at home book tour.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 16, 2023 1:52 PM |
There's such a stark difference between Howard's interview and the Terry Gross interview. Barbra was brittle from Terry's first question. That's the one a friend (who owns all of her work) heard so of course he is horrified at the idea of a 2.5 hour long interview and won't be buying the book. Colbert is kinda fun, that might suggest to him that the audio book would be a good listen. Her book/deadly weapon sized tome is charting better than I expected because Barbra the person isn't nearly as charismatic or interesting as Barbra the performer and she's very hit and miss in interviews purposefully scheduled to sell 1,000 pages.

She made a mistake in talking about "The Owl And the Pussycat". She said she said "fuck" and it automatically got an X rating. In those days one uttered fuck got an automatic R as it was initially released. Soon after she dubbed it out and it was re-rated PG
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 17, 2023 11:27 PM |
Actually, for whatever reason, Pussycat was going to get an X rating. It was released as an R, however. I read it in a magazine article, quite possibly the 1970 Newsweek cover story.

R29- She briefly had a modicum of curb appeal- mainly the nice RACK
What's her name- Bette Midler was ALWAYS DUMPY and average looking. She never had any curb appeal even when she was young.

A nice "rack"? Barbra Streisand was a ordinary B CUP. Nothing out of the ordinary, and certainly nothing anyone would call a "nice rack," (like my grandfather talked). R46, you may want to read up on push up bras and stuffed bras - the kind Barbra used before silicone.

by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 19, 2023 4:29 AM |
If Barbra put the moves on me anytime up to c.2000 I would have thought about it! In her 1994 concerts she's still very sexy. I couldn't point to any one feature but the overall package is very alluring. I've never been with a woman so if I'd stop and think.....maybe then the majority of straight men would have jumped on her on a second.

Babs was #6 overall and 55,322 copies sold first week.
Britney’s bio sold 81k last week, still #3 last week coming off #1 and 633k copies sold overall.
Streisand might have steady sales into the holidays with the eldergays and Fraus hitting the stores. But definitely not the hit it would have been a decade ago, she’s lost alot of fans to old age in those 10 years.

R7 Meanwhile she makes it sound like the “movie they made of it” ended that yet…but it was a TV movie. A 1970s TV movie. I mean, it was good but it was small screen. The topic could easily have been a feature. But yes R7 a love triangle would have been as tacky as “Holocaust: A Love Story.”
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 20, 2023 6:18 AM |
Nobody is “reading” a 1000-page autobiography or listening to a 48-hour+ (!) audiobook in 2023, except those who appreciate true artists and what they do, which is what Barbra stands for and is. Its sad culture has declined so precipitously, but a quick read easy Christmas present is all the sales really stand for… a book ghostwritten and not even “reading” audiobook. Barbra wrote her autobiography herself and it’s her story. In 2023, Britney ghostwritten pablum after her mentally ill conservatoriship era is what people want.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 20, 2023 6:33 AM |

She doesn't understand people who idolize her. She doesn't understand people who idolize anyone who is a stranger. She's just not wired that way. So the adoration she used to get from the gay community, and from say lonely women like Rosie O'Donnell just makes her feel uncomfortable. She doesn't know what to do with it, or about it. I'm trying to slog my way through the book because she has lived an amazing life, but god, it is hard. She goes into such depth on subjects/histories that are not that interesting. The YENTL chapter is interminable. There is the occasional interesting insight on herself and she seems to understand the level of her damage and how it's impacted others. She also is an obsessive artists and makes no apologies for that. I can't imagine how Brolin lives with her. Seems impossible.
