CBS This Morning interview with Gayle King.
Barbara sure has lots of tchotchkes in her mansion.

Who inherits all that tacky crap in her "Mall?"

Ok this was hysterical. Gayle was clearly freaked out and Barbra was like that crazy lady at a yard sale.
The best was Barbra wanting Gayle to touch the purple fabric.
Streisand was like, “let the magic touch you” and Gayle was like….um…okay?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 6, 2023 1:08 AM |
I would absolutely have my own basement mall if I could. Go, Barbra!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 6, 2023 1:15 AM |
Damn, she's still feisty.
I don't know much about Barbra, so I just figured she's old and out of it.
What a surprise that she still has a lot of spunk.

Babs's face here looks like the female vampire's in the movie "Thirty Days Of Night."
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 6, 2023 1:17 AM |
I love her music and her life is her own business but I also think I'm glad I'm not famous and having to make sure I look the same for my entire life, having to go under a knife again and again. I could not do surgery on my face, seems scary. Fame is rough. Especially for women who are expected to live up to some idea of looks.
But that voice.

Wow, James Brolin still looks great!
She must be getting some good dick from him. I heard he's hung large.
Also, I had no idea she dated Pierre Trudeau, Don Johnson, and Andre Agassi. WTF??

Is Barbra older than James Brolin?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 6, 2023 11:28 AM |
I find Barbra to be utterly inane. For someone who comes from nothing and managed to rise to the very top of the entertainment world through a combination of great talent, hard work and ambition, she seems to be little more than a wealthy, out-of-touch housewife with pretentions of zany, neo-hippie pseudo-spirituality. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if she made a cameo in some Real Housewives franchise, as part of an inane self-healing event or another similar nonsensical activity.
Also, Barbra's hoarding tendencies are downright unsettling and her constant whining about her unloving mother and dead father are TIRESOME. Honey, we get it: you're still traumatized by the fact that when you were growing up, your life wasn't perfect and the people you met didn't constantly fawn all over you. Guess what? That's how life is for the vast majority of human beings. You've been a fabulously wealthy and venerated superstar for most of your life, so get over it already.
I agree with R2 that Gayle appeared to be uncomfortable by how delusional and self-centered Barbra is (which is rather rich coming from her, given how out of touch her best friend Oprah is), but her condescending attitude made the interview seem rather tense. As a viewer, it isn't a pleasant thing to watch.
R10, James Brolin is two years older than Barbra.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 6, 2023 12:22 PM |
R11, suggest you look a bit closer to Streisand’s life- particularly the activist and philanthropic side. Most of her gifts are anonymous. She collects and does not hoard- and at times uses her collecting capability to charitable ends as I pointed out previously. . Also, interviews like this are very rare and in support of a project whether women’s heart disease or an autobio. What do you expect her to talk about- Gayle?
Remember this is literally the most successful person is show business- of her lifetime- to the very top of every venue. And also a political activist for her views since her early 20s. The scope and breadth of her life is astounding. This is an instance when the huge talent matched the huge life- well lived and often literally for the service of others.
You are kind of clueless. Sure she can be a bit loopy at times. But consider that from age 21 she was a huge star and stayed there for decades ‘managing to dodge the arrows of great fame and also handle the hot lava of hagiography- sober and one helluva a good citizen (which is what Bill Clinton calls her).

My mother is like that. Behind all her Horatio Alger stories is a narcissist mad because she didn't have the prettiest dress at the party and dance with the cutest guy. They never get over not being Prom Queen.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 6, 2023 8:18 PM |
R15, if you hear her out you will realize that Streisand knows how lucky she is and is also very grateful for the life has lived. Clearly her mothers lack of support and the loss of her father propelled her. That is the context in which she talks about her past. Get it? When she shows off her roses and her collections with her husband at her side the message is- I have a very good life. And a lot of that includes her clear pleasure of giving back which comprises a lot of her time and effort.

The B&W profile photo in the middle at the beginning is such a great photo of her. She has a strong life force and some people can’t handle it, she’s probably laughing at the dl responses on this epic thread, she is that cool. I like her speech pattern. Elliott Gould was the most gorgeous guy that she dated. Gail can’t stand it. Yeah Brolin has bdf and he is quite attractive, good for her. Sharif was gorgeous too and she dated him. She is the opposite of fake, I’m so glad she didn’t cut off her nose.

[quote] Barbra Streisand opens up about her unexpected connection with 'utterly charming' King Charles, who once said she had 'great sex appeal'
In her wide-ranging new memoir "My Name Is Barbra," legendary actress and singer Barbra Streisand opened up about her decades-long connection with King Charles III.
Streisand first met the royal when he visited Los Angeles in 1974. Charles was apparently adamant that he meet Streisand, and so he stopped for a brief visit at Warner Bros. Studios, where the star was recording music for her upcoming film "Funny Lady."
"The prince was utterly charming when he came to the studio, but frankly, it's hard to have a real conversation when you're surrounded by fifty photographers snapping pictures," Streisand recalled in her memoir. "I was drinking tea and offered him a sip… and the future king of England actually drank from my cup, which was apparently unprecedented. When the British press reported on this, they turned it into the equivalent of an international incident."
Per Streisand, Charles asked her what kind of tea she was drinking, and she told him it was Constant Comment.
"I couldn't think of anything else to say, and I'm so work oriented that I was feeling guilty about all those musicians who were waiting for me to get on with the session. So I'm afraid I wasn't as gracious as I should have been," Streisand remembered of her first meeting with Charles.
"The fact is, both Prince Charles and I are shy, but somehow we still managed to connect… because that proved to be the beginning of an unexpected friendship," she added.
Though they only met in person for the first time in 1974, the monarch's interest in Streisand apparently started years earlier, when he was in college at Cambridge.
"I was told that Charles has said I was his 'only pinup' (apparently he had a poster of me in his room at Cambridge), and he described me as 'devastatingly attractive' with 'great sex appeal.' Who knew?" Streisand quipped in her memoir.
Charles' quotes about Streisand's "sex appeal" previously appeared in Charles Anderson's 2022 biography of the monarch titled "The King: The Life of Charles III."
According to her memoir, Streisand and the monarch later reconnected in 1994 when she played several shows in London, including one benefiting his charity. Streisand revealed that Charles was so taken with her performance (and grateful for her contributions to his charity) that he sent her a bouquet of hand-picked flowers the next day.
"The flowers were fresh from his garden! What a lovely gesture. And he wrote: 'It was such a treat to attend your concert last night — You were wonderful and I adored every minute of it! Bless you for being so kind and generous to my trust — they so appreciated it,'" the "Yentl" star recalled of Charles' gesture.
Streisand said her and Charles' "extraordinary" friendship has lasted "decades," and gave her the chance to visit to Charles' home, Highgrove, in 1995. Per the singer, the two also regularly exchange birthday cards (Charles recently sent a card with a hand-painted watercolor of his on the front) and gifts, and Streisand said she's "so happy" he's now king.
Streisand previously spoke about her and Charles' friendship during a 2021 interview on British TV.

What a long and hugely successful career she’s had, lasting across generations.
I love her performances, but not really the person she is.
James Brolin is still so good-looking.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 8, 2023 1:57 PM |
There's so much to be dissected seeing Brolin and Streisand sitting side by side in that interview. As a handsome man, he has been allowed to age gracefully - all of his wrinkles, crags and leathery skin effortlessly on display. Whereas Streisand has had her face pulled and stretched and sanded and polished and filled with deposits of god knows what in a fruitless attempt to remain 30-something forever.

R12 = resident Streisand looney “charlie”
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 8, 2023 2:41 PM |
R26, you forgot fillers. That’s why her face has a full-fat look. What I can’t figure out is what that thing on her head is, as if we’re to believe she had more hair at age 81 than she did at age 31. Streisand’s real hair is straight and thin. Any hairdressers out there who can explain?

She has no warmth like Judy Garland.
She has the talent and presence, but that doesn’t make her iconic.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 8, 2023 4:45 PM |
Having her own mall filled with crap makes her look crazy. The bad plastic surgery isn't helping.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 8, 2023 4:50 PM |
I don't know about a lack of warmth but she certainly has a lack of vulnerability compared to Judy. Also a lack of a sense of humor though it was there in 1963-65.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 8, 2023 5:02 PM |
I am listening to her on Fresh Air with Terry Gross right now. She was/is an amazing talent but does not really seem very bright and is not very interesting in an interview. Just from her voice, she does seem to be aging a lot.

[quote]She collects and does not hoard
And you know this because, R12? There's a photo out there I cannot find right now of Babs in her Third Ave apt circa 1962 where she's displaying some frock in front of a hat stand. In the back on the right is the most revolting bookshelf with crowded beyond crowded books smashed in as good as any hoarder on that TV show. With all that junk in the apt, I bet it stunk too. This was 1962, people. Today she had much more room to hoard.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 8, 2023 5:51 PM |
I also listened to that Terry Gross NPR interview and Barbra certainly confirmed her lack of a sense of humor. About herself and just about everything. Terry, who I love as an interviewer, sounded rather nervous.

What's his secret?

She's one the few truly huge gay icons I've never been able to warm up to; I can't stand the sound of her singing voice and her filmography is fucking awful too.

I have it. Looked all over for Lainie Kazan...couldn't find her. : (

Barbra herself admits she shoplifted as a teen until someone saw her steal a pair of yellow socks at Abraham & Straus and followed her, telling her they had seen what she had done. This scared her straight, so maybe she decided to cut light-fingered Lainie some slack and keep her out of the memoir.

Barbra Streisand was a guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday, and she covered plenty of topics, from her love life to politics to God and beyond.
In promotion of her new memoir, My Name is Barbra, the Hollywood icon invited Stephen Colbert to her Malibu home, where they chatted about things like her cloned dogs, her high-profile past flings, rumors about her demanding flower petals in the toilet, why she doesn't like to give public press interviews and what she would do if Donald Trump becomes president again.
Here’s a look at some of the interview’s best moments.
Streisand spoke about the first date she went on with her now-husband, actor James Brolin, over 25 years ago. After being set up by a friend, she arrived at the location to meet him only to see that he had cut off all of his hair down to a buzz cut and had no facial hair. Needless to say, she was disappointed.
“I said, ‘Who f***ed up your hair?’” Streisand said, adding that Brolin loved her honesty at that moment. And from there things were on the fast track.
“We talked about everything that night. And then he said, ‘I’m taking you home.’ Woo. Whoa. I never had a man say that to me, I’m taking you home… that was interesting,” she said.
She would go on to say that an average night in their household together pretty much consists of watching series and movies with their dogs.
When it came to revealing any details about her plethora of past co-stars that she has kissed on screen, Streisand was hesitant to say much of anything despite Colbert’s best efforts.
To avoid pressuring her into a game of kiss and tell, Colbert asked Streisand to play “kiss and have a reaction” instead, as he rattled off names like Robert Redford, Jeff Bridges, Nick Nolte and Kris Kristofferson.
And not only did Streisand not give any info about those fellas, she replied with things like, “I don’t think this is a good game” and “not gonna talk about it.”
After admitting that the current political landscape is “bad,” Streisand did say that she likes President Biden because he’s “compassionate, he’s smart, he supports the right things.”
When asked by Colbert what she would do if Trump became president again, Streisand has already made up her mind.
“I will move, I can’t live in this country if he became president,” she said, before offering up what the new destination would be: “Probably England, I like England.”
Colbert also asked Streisand about the current rise of anti-Semitism and fascism, not only around the world but in the United States.
“It’s so sad about what’s going on today,” she said. “Meaning, people have to live together even though they’re different religions, or whatever. People are people, it’s true. We all want the same thing: We all want love in our hearts, we all want family, we all want to feel secure. I hope for the best because this is heartbreaking, what’s happening now with these people. The children, the mothers, it doesn’t matter what religion they are, do you know what I mean? This is beyond religion. This is insanity for us to not learn how to live together in peace.”
Streisand also added that she “could easily cry” about everything that’s going on and had one question about it all.
“Where is God at this time, where is he or she? Why can’t that energy stop this madness?” Streisand wondered.

[quote]“I will move, I can’t live in this country if Trump became president, [again]” she said, before offering up what the new destination would be: “Probably England, I like England.”
In the book (which includes a lot about food), to her credit she defends English cuisine against its critics:
[quote]Thank God I had tea and scones, and I went down to the East End to get fish and chips, wrapped in newspaper. Most people are dismissive of English food, but I actually loved it. Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with horseradish sauce. What could be better?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 14, 2023 8:36 PM |
R45, you don't get it. Lainie Kazan is a footnote, nothing remotely important in the history of movies, records, TV or the theater. Though I must say I'd rather hang out with Lainie over the sanctimonious Babs.
