Monroe - Too Close For Comfort

Chandler - Friends

Sara - CSI

by Anonymousreply 3November 3, 2023 6:41 AM

Wow. I really missed what they were going for with that character, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 4November 3, 2023 7:05 AM

The very old Peyton Place had 3 clearly homosexual characters. Norman Harrington, the shy younger brother of Ryan O'Neal's Rodney Harrington. Matthew Swain, the town newspaper editor played by the older, attractive Warner Anderson. Swain was a life long bachelor with a dog, who seemed to be around just to dispense advice, and finally English professor at Peyton College, Paul Hanley played by the deliciously acerbic Richard Evans. Hanley seemed to crush on Mia Farrow's virginal Allison, but he clearly had a thing for Norman, and a contentus relationship with Matt Swain. I know the writers in the mid 60's couldn't be literal, but tell tale signs were there.

by Anonymousreply 6November 3, 2023 8:11 AM

Meant contentious, not contentus geez!

I agree that Jo on The Facts of Life was so butch that it’s hard to believe that Nancy McKeon isn’t a lez. In real life, Jo would’ve totally been gay.

by Anonymousreply 62November 3, 2023 3:12 PM

Mary Bradford from Eight is Enough was a pioneer TV lesbian role model for my ugly, older cousin, Tamar.

Recent past shows like MF are full of woke, probably gay characters. It’s no big deal and is assumed.

by Anonymousreply 75November 3, 2023 3:28 PM

[quote]Tori, the biker chick who was on Saved by the Bell for awhile.

The actress, Leanna Creel, is one of the acting Creel triplets and is actually gay in real life. She was one of the producers of the gay comedy classic “But I’m A Cheerleader.”

by Anonymousreply 78November 3, 2023 3:36 PM

Jonathan on Who's The Boss. Danny Pintauro was such an obvious flaming queen, but in the last few seasons, they made the choice to make his character insanely girl crazy. Jonathan was such an non-entity by that point, yet when they would give him some lines, it would be about how hot and bothered he was over girls. It kind of seemed mean-spirited to me, since they knew that Pintauro was not able to portray a horny straight teenage boy.

Popeye and Bluto, who both "lusted" after Olive Oyl, were both gay. In fact, all three were probably gay.

by Anonymousreply 83November 3, 2023 4:01 PM

Hodges and/or Nick from the original CSI should’ve been gay. Or Hodges at least Bi.

Nick was a ‘ladies man’ but he was rarely with a woman.

Sara and Grissom was one of the worst pairings ever- they both seemed 100% uninterested in each other. If Gil had to have been paired with a woman, Catherine or Lady Heather would’ve been better.

R125 The character in the grey shirt, Detective Mark Harding played by Chris McKenna, was soon turned into a bad cop and killed off. .. The other character, Kevin Fisher played by out actor Greg Rikaart, was on contract for years, but a few years later was bumped to recurring. Since then, he's moved over to "Days of Our Lives" where he's been playing a gay character named "Leo Stark." .. Rikaart occasionally still shows up on Y&R, though. His straight Kevin Fisher character will be seen in a few weeks for a Thanksgiving episode.

When viewers began shipping "Harder," the two men both worked for the police force in town. Mark was the lead detective, and Kevin was the department's sci-tech computer whiz. They were always getting in each other's face.

Niles on Frasier always struck as being written as gay but played like an uptight snob to veil the extreme gayness. Even having a wife that is never seen and he's always bitching about. Funny enough the only Maris I've ever met was a man. I always watched interpreting as though his "wife" was possibly a man he lived with that everyone just pretended was a wife. And just let him live on lie.

Alice and Sam The Butcher seemed more like poker and bowling buddies that drank beer out of bottles at the bar after more than lovers.

Jackie was obviously meant to be the "single" butch lesbian aunt.

Chandler seemed like he would sniff Joey's underwear when he was out of the house and pretend to be asleep to hear him have sex.

Jo was so very butch that the one time they put her in a dress she just looked and walked like a dude in drag. And I think Mrs Garrett had a soft spot for her because she was a lifetime closet lez that identified as a spinster or "widow".

The Henry guy on As The World Turns - gay gay gay

Nell on Gimme A Break, Mr Belvedere, Tony on Who's The Boss, Alice and most other housekeepers and nannies were always code for down low gays that sneak in tricks and same sex hook ups while the family is sleeping.

Most of these characters would be gay or lez in a modern sitcom.

Terry Lester was gay, in real life.

I don't think Bergman is gay, in real life. I think the writing on Y&R is really bad in that the only man who gets to be manly is Victor Newman. Somehow, old fart Eric Braeden gets to be the guy in town who's fucked every female and never strikes out.

Wally and. Eddie, at 18, finally did the deed in the abandoned house across the way.

Eddie, being the bossy bottom he was, after the hour-long fuck shot his load in a mason jar and challenged Wally to drink it—which he did. Wally pulled out and hit in him in the face…and in the eyes, since he’d been such slut in the locker room, but wouldn’t give Wally a well-deserved fuck. That stung, but Eddie wanted another round, so he didn’t complain.

They’d been drinking root beer all afternoon, so Wally needed to pee. That slut Eddie wasn’t going to let that go to waste, so they hurried to the homes’ bathtub and let Wally go for it.

Eddie was such a pussy, he wouldn’t take the stream in his mouth. Amateur!

Afterward, Eddie was soaking wet and Wally exclaimed “Holy cow, how are we gonna get outta this mess?” He quickly ran to across the street to his home’s garage, and swiped Dad’s “oil shirt” which he always used to work on the car with Uncle William. They worked hard out there, cause they’d be there for hours..

Wally brought the shirt back to Eddie, and they returned to the house to pretend to work on Eddie’s car.

Summer went quickly, and before you know, the both entered Mayfield University, both majoring in Biology…

Niles Crane should have been gay or asexual. Frasier maybe should have been gay too.

Roman from “Succession” not being gay with a total misfire on behalf of the writers.

The writers were told Culkin to prepare for being bisexual but it never happened. Instead, they went with that S&M storyline with Gerri I thought was stupid.

His character and the dominance his father has over him and how it fucked him up would have been better portrayed through bisexuality.

This scene has always struck me as an abandoned plot for his bisexuality.

R376 I was a college freshman when The O.C. premiered. I had just come out as a lesbian and connected with the GSA group at my college. The GSA group would do meet ups to watch TV shows and The OC was one of them. There was one gay guy who had the same personality as Seth Cohen and he used to say that Seth should have been gay. I'm still in contact with that guy and during the pandemic he mentioned binge watching The OC and a bunch of other early 2000s shows that have been forgotten.

The OC is on Hulu. The show was only 4 seasons. I'll probably do a quck rewatch at some point.

R389 The O.C was a tv show that totally missed the opportunity to add a compelling gay storyline. The only time they did it was on the 1st season when Luke discovers his dad is secretely gay.

It would've been interesting to see a gay character that falls in love with Ryan Atwood.

by Anonymousreply 395July 7, 2024 7:32 PM

Another one on "Gossip GIrl" was Damien Dalgaard. .. When evil Damien started manipulating and using little gay twink, Eric van der Woodsen - who had a total crush on him - the relationship should have turned into something more for Damien, switching it around and turning the tables on him. The duo was short-lived and a real missed opportunity to finally do something interesting with Eric.

Seriously. The writing team wasted the very talented and gorgeous Sean Delaney (who I saw in Labyrinth at the Hampstead Theatre and was splendid). As it is, he's just a bland, sexless cypher; if he were gay, had some semblance of a personality, and the writers dared to flesh out his obvious autism, he would be so much more interesting than that nothing of a character we got. And think of all the possibilities for humour or even full-on farce: Grindr notifications going off during sombre safe house meetings, a midnight call from Fiona Shaw interrupting a hookup mid-coitus (a gay twist on the old Bond cliche), or even sleeping with and then getting his heart broken by sociopathic Hugo (Edward Bluemel, again wasted). All of that might've made us care a little when he's killed off-screen, and it just would be great representation for gay aspies. But oh well.

If Biden steps down Kamala will be the nominee. And that’s that. Because you can’t get around that if something were to happen to the president Kamala would take his place and the original plan of Biden to be re-elected and this if something happened to him on the campaign trail or the next 4 years Kamala would be president. She has to be the nominee for this to work. There is no way around it.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 466July 21, 2024 10:45 PM

The saying 'a purse fell out of his mouth' would have fit Lester. He had a great gothic precense, and he would have fit in at Dark Shadows. He was great as Orin, and when Dorothy Lyman was playing Elly Jo opposite him, it was a riot.

by Anonymousreply 467July 22, 2024 12:13 AM

That story on Edge of Night really drew me in. Doesn't poor old Uncle Orrin almost have a near heart attack seeing her in bed with some guy? "Oh, Elly Jo!" He whispered, clutching his chest.

And that booby-trapped railing at the top of the stairs, cleverly cut to give way if any weight was pressed on it. It was a riot the way she'd be up and down that grand staircase, remembering at the last second to avoid that part of the railing. The dark humor in that storyline just didn't quit.
