Elizabeth Montgomery- Rare Interview On Bewitched Set Ca. 1967.

She seemed like such a nice person.

She’s very charming and down to earth—thanks for sharing.

by Anonymousreply 1November 2, 2023 1:57 AM

One of the most beautiful women to grace t.v.

by Anonymousreply 2November 2, 2023 2:04 AM

And Agnes on set.

Adultress !

During the eighth year of the show, Montgomery fell in love with director Richard Michaels. Their resulting affair led to the end of both of their marriages, as well as the end of the series. They moved in together when shooting ended in 1972; the relationship lasted two and a half years.

That last season with everything going on behind-the-scenes, she was just totally acting and looking so far removed from the Samantha character as compared to even the previous season’s portrayal, that it didn’t even seem that she was portraying the same person. It was if Samantha in Season 8 was having a midlife crisis or went on some bipolar behavioral binge. ;) Although between the suddenly different personality, updated hairdo, and more contemporary clothing, of course she was even prettier than ever.

by Anonymousreply 5November 2, 2023 2:54 AM

R5- It's true. For some reason the last season 1971/72 of Bewitched Elizabeth Montgomery was prettier than ever.

by Anonymousreply 6November 2, 2023 2:59 AM

Miss Morehead sure gave those youngsters the what-for! Those of us from the old school don't have time for all that guff and rigmarole. See you at Perino's, Aggie!

by Anonymousreply 7November 2, 2023 3:49 AM

Liz was gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 8November 2, 2023 3:53 AM

R4: I've always thought of the "walk of shame" as a "walk of triumph".

by Anonymousreply 9November 2, 2023 4:08 AM

Wow, Agnes Moorehead was really something else.

by Anonymousreply 10November 2, 2023 4:19 AM

I loved her as a kid. She seemed so warm and sensible. She resembled my mother, and to me, she was like a sillier and witchier version of my mother in that show.

by Anonymousreply 11November 2, 2023 4:32 AM

These interviews made my night. Thank you, OP.

(Watching both of them was a reminder of how unlistenable and inarticulate the majority of young performers are today. It’s no wonder that the late night talk shows are filled with games and gags and stupid tricks. So many actors today are incapable of sustaining an intelligent conversation.)

by Anonymousreply 12November 2, 2023 4:40 AM

R12 In the first 30 seconds what she is really saying is yes I’ve been typecast and yes I am bored with the scripts.

by Anonymousreply 13November 2, 2023 2:44 PM

She’s so old school and professional: “I almost got burned alive on set, but it was fun.”

by Anonymousreply 14November 2, 2023 2:47 PM

Agnes Moorehead was a bitter old cunt, wasn't she?

by Anonymousreply 15November 2, 2023 3:01 PM

R12 She went to Westlake in LA and Spence in NYC and cut her teeth on Broadway. So, yes, class, education, and sophistication all the way.

by Anonymousreply 16November 2, 2023 3:04 PM

15 years later I was a highly respected TV movie actress but also making the big bucks in Japanese TV commercials because my agent said no one would ever see them.

Elizabeth had almost a mid-Atlantic or Southern drawl in that clip. Her accent is different than the character Samantha.

I know her mother was from Kentucky and I think a little of it rubbed off on her natural speaking voice.

by Anonymousreply 18November 2, 2023 4:54 PM

I was struck by her accent too, r18, but I think it's actually a strong California twang.

by Anonymousreply 19November 2, 2023 4:59 PM

It was weird how the camera went close-up on the back of the interviewer's head for a while. What was up with that?

by Anonymousreply 20November 2, 2023 5:04 PM

KNTV must have had no budget back then.

Look at the beat-up microphone they made the interviewer use to interview Endora.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 21November 2, 2023 5:06 PM

You’re right r21. KNTV was just a local station back then, not the NBC owned station it is now.

by Anonymousreply 22November 2, 2023 5:11 PM

She was a smoker so she ultimately did not age well by the 1980s. But she was a very talented and likeable woman.

by Anonymousreply 23November 2, 2023 5:25 PM

I loved this show so much. It was so camp, and I totally wanted her to be my Mom.

by Anonymousreply 24November 2, 2023 5:53 PM

Elizabeth reminds me a bit of Jane Fonda. Did they both go to Vassar?

by Anonymousreply 25November 2, 2023 8:21 PM

Montgomery went right to drama school (the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan) for three years after she was graduated from Spence. She never went to a proper college.

by Anonymousreply 26November 2, 2023 8:39 PM

When she died, everyone in the break room at my job kept saying “Bewitched died.” They didn’t refer to her as Elizabeth Montgomery or even as Samantha Stevens. It was weird.

by Anonymousreply 27November 2, 2023 9:02 PM

Agnes is so peak dl that she is probably Muriel. Holy freakin cow she is throwing some creative shade

by Anonymousreply 28November 2, 2023 9:44 PM

That interview is very Agnes. I don't think she was trying to cunt it up but she had very specific beliefs about theater and her work. Good for her for sticking to them.

by Anonymousreply 29November 2, 2023 9:47 PM

R3 Agnes was really pissed off that that little 4-year-old diva bitch Erin Murphy kept forgetting her lines.

by Anonymousreply 30November 2, 2023 9:51 PM

“I hammer it into them” “I want young and disciplined actors that can manipulate themselves on and off the set” Do you have a school? “It’s a private school” what an absolute legend. Peak DL! Priorities!

by Anonymousreply 31November 2, 2023 9:54 PM

R26 she’s no G Paltrow —Gwynnie made it through 2 quarters of UCSB on top of Spence 🤡

by Anonymousreply 32November 2, 2023 9:54 PM

R19 No! The only twang in California comes from Bakersfield and the Central Valley.

by Anonymousreply 33November 2, 2023 9:56 PM

[quote] Look at the beat-up microphone they made the interviewer use to interview Endora.

That crappy microphone was all they had left after they used the good one to interview Streisand and she painted it white when they weren't looking.

by Anonymousreply 34November 2, 2023 10:20 PM

I have a feeling the black and white spared us the full hideousness of Agnes' frock.

by Anonymousreply 35November 2, 2023 11:49 PM

Agnes did NOT come to play with you heaux!

by Anonymousreply 36November 2, 2023 11:53 PM

She was ruthless in that interview- in a good way

She was Endora and Agnes at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 37November 3, 2023 5:09 AM

Interesting that Elizabeth says she is not very career ambitious.

by Anonymousreply 38November 4, 2023 8:32 AM

Not to hijack the thread, but I recently had those same thoughts when watching an old ET interview with the teenage cast of STAND BY ME, how articulate they were.

Elizabeth was such a witch when filming……

by Anonymousreply 40November 4, 2023 10:04 AM

R27 did you work at K-Mart?

by Anonymousreply 41November 4, 2023 11:11 AM

Sh was a gem.

by Anonymousreply 42November 4, 2023 11:57 AM

Love both of them!

by Anonymousreply 43November 4, 2023 12:03 PM

a lovely lady

by Anonymousreply 44November 4, 2023 1:09 PM

R38: they always say that once they're successful.

by Anonymousreply 45November 4, 2023 2:06 PM

r3, thanks!! Everything Agnes says is 100% on point. Spot on.

I’ve always loved her.

I have a beautiful painting of her as Endora in my apartment. Classic actress. Real actress.

by Anonymousreply 46November 4, 2023 2:39 PM

R46- You have a painting of Endora in your apartment?

You're SO gay!

and I approve 👌

by Anonymousreply 47November 4, 2023 3:08 PM

It’s a really stunning piece.

Meh—too Grinch-like

by Anonymousreply 50November 4, 2023 5:25 PM

Agnes came off as a sour old twat.

by Anonymousreply 51November 4, 2023 10:26 PM

She and Jane Fonda are like beautiful carbon copies 😄 of their fathers -the female edition/ version!😍😘

by Anonymousreply 52November 4, 2023 11:28 PM

Elizabeth twitched so that Jane could run.

by Anonymousreply 53November 4, 2023 11:30 PM

r51 Zero - not at all

by Anonymousreply 54November 4, 2023 11:44 PM

R52: hardly-looks or style. Jane was as willing to talk as her father was silent, Montgomery became a close friend of Bette Davis who did not get along with her father (a male Miriam Hopkins, she once said). Davis and Robert Montgomery had been involved in the Screen Actors Guild, bound to different studios.

Datalounge People - Check out this episode of The Dick Cavett Show from 1973

Two DL faves- Ethel Merman

and beginning at 13:26 Agnes Moorhead- she's not quite as strident as she was in the interview from 1967.

by Anonymousreply 58November 5, 2023 1:48 AM

It was sad to hear that Dick York fell in love with her and had to leave the show.,He had such a good career before he played Darren.

by Anonymousreply 59November 5, 2023 4:14 AM

Is that the one where Agnes is doing Don Juan in Hell, r56?

by Anonymousreply 60November 5, 2023 4:21 AM

York was in constant pain and often couldn't work. The unrequited whatever was just an additional problem.

by Anonymousreply 61November 6, 2023 3:17 PM

R59- I believe he was in an episode of The Twilight Zone too.

by Anonymousreply 62November 6, 2023 4:58 PM

I think all the main Bewitched cast was in at least one TZ episode. Agnes was in one where she did not talk.

by Anonymousreply 63November 6, 2023 5:33 PM

R21 He played Scopes in the film version of Inherit the Wind before Bewitched…he was a comer.

by Anonymousreply 64November 6, 2023 6:06 PM

That was for R59 and R61 —^^

Lo siento.

by Anonymousreply 65November 6, 2023 6:07 PM

Montgomery was in a Twilight Zone with Charles Bronson, r62 and r63. I believe she only spoke one word. They played the the sole survivors of an apparent World War.

He was an American, she was... possibly Russian?

by Anonymousreply 66November 6, 2023 6:14 PM

I remember that episode—I do think she was Russian.

by Anonymousreply 67November 7, 2023 6:50 AM

R66 Bronson was a hot piece of ass once. As far as Liz, I want her on my side during Password!

by Anonymousreply 68November 7, 2023 1:45 PM

R68 9:22 Liz’s civilian partner should have had his gay card revoked!

by Anonymousreply 69November 7, 2023 2:41 PM

R68 - Thanks for that. I had not realized that Foxworth was significantly younger than Liz till I saw them together.

I bet Bruce is still a struggling actor.

by Anonymousreply 70November 8, 2023 12:39 AM

She liked younger dick—she had had more than enough old dick in her earlier marriage.

by Anonymousreply 71November 8, 2023 2:09 AM

What is happening with her hair on Password Plus?

by Anonymousreply 72November 8, 2023 2:21 AM

Bad perm

by Anonymousreply 73November 8, 2023 4:09 AM

nepo baby alert

by Anonymousreply 74November 8, 2023 5:48 AM

R73- Hideous PERMED 80's hair.

Compare that to how pretty she was especially in the last season of Bewitched 1971/72- with her long straight hair.

This is the same journalist, interviewing character actress Reta Shaw.

It’s interesting Montgomery insisted the journalist have her back to the camera, so Montgomery herself got focus. But Shaw doesn’t mind sharing the shot with Ryden.

R71 - She traded one Dick for another in Bewitched.
