Sheridan Bucket - Keeping Up Appearances

This feels too deep for a light-hearted comedy show.

Most of the comedy surrounding Sheridan stems from the fact that Hyacinth is blissfully unaware of his obvious homosexuality and the fact he clearly abuses his parents' generous nature while being an absent son.

If he didn't exist, who's on the other end of the line when she's speaking to him on the phone? And if he was a fantasy, I think she'd have made him some high flyer with a respectable job, wife and children.

Na he exists otherwise Richard wouldn't be so pissed at sending do many cheques to him.

Maybe there's another reason Hyacinth is how she is though? Perhaps she was in an abusive relationship before she met Richard, and she's still over-compensating for the residual feelings of low self-worth? Comfort eating could explain why she's so 'well built'?

I guess that would lend a broader context to her keeping up of appearances. Sort of mind-blowing to stop and realize the depth and multitudes that the writers imbued into character of Hyacinth.

It would have been brilliant seeing Patricia Routledge and Clive Swift do an episode of KUA playing Hyacinth and Richard as Martha and George types with the Dishy Vicar and his wife in the Nick and Honey roles.

Young Hyacinth was extremely strange from what I recall. It was filmed more as a drama—completely different genre, total tonal shift.
