Earlier today.
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Joe Biden’s job approval rating among Democrats has tumbled 11 percentage points in the past month to 75%, the worst reading of his presidency from his own party.
This drop has pushed his overall approval rating down four points to 37%, matching his personal low.

Student loans forgiveness is the most important issue for most voters 40 and under, if you want to call that youth. All these other issues are low priority. Student loans hit people where it hurts, in the pocket. The Dept. of Education is finding creative ways to absolve a good amount of SL debt, but overall Biden could not deliver the sweeping resolution that everyone hoped for. And even that would've still left most people with some debt.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 27, 2023 2:40 AM |
The fact of the matter is that young people have seen consistent failure in US intervention in foreign wars for two decades, which is how old the youngest voters are. People now believe that nothing good comes from American intervention other than endless war. Even the immense support from liberals at the outset of the Ukraine invasion has receded as no progress has been made and Zelensky outstays his welcome.
I was one of the young people who bucked the Democrats old guard in 2008 and supported Obama because of his war opposition. Do not underestimate the youth’s immense distrust of the old guard, especially those who still uphold the conventional wisdom of those from the Cold War era. People in 2008 HATED Hillary because of her Iraq War vote. Young, Democratic voters. The Obama coalition.
Biden speaks about Israel like everyone in the room is a Jewish retiree in South Florida like that scene from Primary Colors. That world does not exist and young people have lived their whole live with Netanyahu’s zealots. They do not like Netanyahu’s Israel.
I have said in other threads, but if a true isolationist Republican or third party candidate emerges, Biden loses the election.

Supporting Israel's war effort is the morally correct thing to do. Should that be weighted heavily in deciding what the administration's policy should be, or is it more important what young antisemitic voters want the administration to do?

If you let Trump win over a war that's happening half way around the world, you have no sense of reality or how to prioritize what actually is in your best interest. Say hello to 30 years of Supreme Court MAGA.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 27, 2023 6:44 AM |
If the under-40 crowd thinks that Trump would be better for them, I have news: if they received any form of student loan forgiveness, Trump will claw it back. He hates the under-40 crowd of educated people. If he'll put children in cages and use family separation at the border as some sort of anti-immigration motivation, he'll have no qualms reversing every Biden policy put in place for the under-40 crowd. Reinstating forgiven debt is not out of the question... not for Trump.
The under-40 crowd is the generation that is going to suffer the most with climate change. Trump has already said he'll reverse all of the climate actions Biden took under the Inflation Reduction Act, and it will doom their generation on everything from the weather to the economy.
But don't worry, Trump has a tax cut for millionaires to offset the higher costs they'll see on everything, too.
And speaking of tax cuts, did you see the news about the $2Trillion deficit this year? The CBO put out a study explaining how we got here. The bottom line: the Bush tax cuts started the ball rolling, and the Trump tax cuts completed the job, as without them we'd have a balanced budget and could fully fund Social Security and Medicare for 75 years... you know, the period in which the under-40 crowd will retire. Think Trump and a GOP House won't try to cut taxes again? See Speaker MAGA Mike Johnson's first speech to the House.
And for what? Do they want us to abandon our only ally and the only liberal democracy in the Middle East? And what happens when, alone against Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad, Israel is backed into a corner and uses their nukes?

The situation will only get fundamentally worse a hundred-fold, let alone the complete disintegration of our democracy here at home. These kids are about to get a brutal wake-up call, and they're going to take everyone down with them, including the focus of their cause.

r5 I don't know about that. A lot of us who were in middle school and high school when 9/11 happened definitely jumped on the "fuck Islam" train with zeal because of how traumatizing it was. A good portion of my peers either immediately joined the military after graduating high school or went to schools like West Point or Annapolis; specifically those who were seniors in 2002-2005.
Even pop culture hopped on the "pro-America/anti-Middle East" bandwagon after 9/11.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 27, 2023 1:22 PM |
It doesn’t matter because gun violence has gotten worse. People will eventually disconnect and become ambivalent if they do not see results.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 27, 2023 1:23 PM |
It's up to the youth to put forward young candidates if they want to see more change. Until then, go with the guy who's at least done something about it in the past and would do more if only a had just a few more Dems elected to Congress. Biden would be all over passing those laws if only he had the majority vote behind him.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 27, 2023 1:29 PM |
I swear it's almost like the older generations underestimate how many moderate and conservative leaning millennials there actually are. Once again, the armed forces saw some of the largest numbers in recruitment after 9/11. Most of those recruits were fresh out of high school. Those recruits are now in their 30s and early 40s. Many of them deployed from a country that showed them unfettered support (even in the entertainment industry), only to return to a country years later that did a 180 during Obama's presidency and branded them "baby killers" and "invaders."
Most then got jobs in law enforcement where they were now even more hated by progressive Democrats. They remember that Israel supported them when they were serving their country during Operation Iraqi Freedom and some developed an almost clinical level of hatred for Islamic terrorists, Muslims and Islam as a religion in general when they were over there. They also supported the IDF's efforts against Hamas.
If Biden is smart, he will not turn on Israel so as not to lose the moderate Democrat millennials, especially veteran millennials who served in OIF. They propped up serving one's country after 9/11 and gave the youth the impression that they could be "heroes" if they signed up, and the entertainment industry pushed this borderline propaganda heavily. Now the Dems have to deal with the consequences of their "brainwash as many millennials as possible into joining the military" campaign circa 2001-2005.

[quote]Biden ALSO has a SENILITY problem.
As someone whose mother passed this year due to dementia at 92, after seeing it start 15 years ago with tell-tale symptoms and the slow, horrible progression, this is not only insulting but FLAT OUT WRONG. Joe Biden is old. Joe Biden looks and acts his age. Joe Biden, however, is sharp, smart and probably the best president of our lifetimes. And he brings to the presidency the kind of experience, know-how and demeanor that the world (not just the US) needed after 4 years of a shit show and ultimately the near destruction of democracy writ large.
Joe Biden has overcome a lifetime of personal challenges, but that the GQP/trolls can't let his speech impediment go is just.... too much. You'd think the generations that have made neurodivergency the be-all and end-all of everything would accept that the most accomplished president since FDR has an issue with his brain that causes him to stutter and mix up words. Nope, ignore the fact that he's done more for the under-40 crowd than any president IN HISTORY and focus on his brainfarts that cause him to replace one word with another, like when he called the war in Ukraine the war in Iraq. Gosh, someone who lived through horrendous misadventure, including the lies told to launch it and eventually the task of bringing it to a conclusion, experiencing a minor slip of the tongue means that he's somehow deficient is just ludicrous.
I'm usually not the kind that wishes ill on others that a calmer and more level-headed person would not wish on their worst enemy, but I'm getting sick and disgusted with the people who go around screeching that Biden is too old and senile. So, my fervent wish is that anyone who says that Biden is too old and suffering from senility gets to experience what it is to watch someone they love, admire and respect slowly succumb to dementia (but not themselves because even though there are moments of realization, those are quickly forgotten). It really says something about a disease when, by the end, you're praying for death because watching someone who led a brilliant life slowly lose everything that meant anything to them is a kind of torture that I could not have imagined 15 years ago..

For the record, I agree that there is a strain of antisemitism unrelated to the Israeli occupation being voiced on college campuses.
But Israeli defenders bear partial responsibility of this with their constant accusations of antisemitism. If you relentlessly accuse everyone who questions Israel of being a bigot, they are no longer going to care about not appearing to look like a bigot.

TikTok is the #1 search engine for more than half of Gen Z.
TikTok is the primary news source for many younger demos & while we have justifiable concerns about The New York Times & mainstream media, this has become a TikTok war.
I looked at the data and saw that Israel is losing the TikTok war by a longshot.
As an example, the top hashtag is 3b views for Palestine versus 200m views for Israel.
As I looked at the tactics and data, I saw that much of TikTok is being controlled by anti-Israel bot farms, paid commenters/likers/sharers — much of which is paid for by Hamas supporting organizations."

[quote] Genocide is when a government systematically targets a group for extermination, like the Nazis did with the Jews, like the Turks did to the Armenians, like the Serbians did with the Bosnians.
That definition to too clear so the term has been REDEFINED and broadened into near meaninglessness.
In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
Killing members of the group;
Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
Elements of the crime
The Genocide Convention establishes in Article I that the crime of genocide may take place in the context of an armed conflict, international or non-international, but also in the context of a peaceful situation. The latter is less common but still possible. The same article establishes the obligation of the contracting parties to prevent and to punish the crime of genocide.
------------------------
So per the UN killing Hamas is genocide. Or not killing them but harming their mental health by making them worry would seem to apply as well.

We simply need to change our two party winner takes all system. When you have 70/ 80 year olds monopolizing the political spectrum you practically guarantee a nation of old boy and girl networks. The interests of an 80 year old are pretty different than a 20 or 30 year old. As a youngster I didn’t feel enfranchised and I wasn’t. How to make the youngsters feel they have a stake in the game give them one. That’s what Biden tried to do. Kids are pawns and they know it.The student loan thing demonstrates what pawns they are. The two party system serves the two parties not the voter.

Dear President Biden,
Please keep on assuming that voters among the increasing demographics of Latinos and non-Latino conservative religious populations in our country are all into your very woke policies and "Americans last" overseas spending and military intervention policies and philosophy, so that they can show you and your clueless progressive handlers and followers the White House door come next Presidential Election. I say this simply as an observer of what to me seems strikingly like what, for lack of any other discernible reason, you seem to know and want to happen.
Regards,

I don't have faith in the polls. Besides, young people are not going to vote Republican unless they're MAGA.

Is this truly a concern? Young people barely vote.

Another reason LGBTQ should not support Muslims and their ideology. It’s sick and none of us want to live under Muslim rule.

I can’t remember the exact article but the reason journalists got Trump and Brexit so wrong was because they were focussed on Twitter social media not Facebook.
On so many issues the media see those who shout the loudest and the most polarising and give a credibility to them they don’t deserve.

A cohort that does not vote all that much and then complains about the poor job their elders have done running things. Let’s hope they can surprise us in 2024.
But small numbers or not the Dems can’t afford to lose any votes.
