by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 15, 2023 7:25 PM |
Aww.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 15, 2023 7:26 PM |
She went to that big trump rally in the sky
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 15, 2023 7:27 PM |
Wow, OP beat Wikipedia.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 15, 2023 7:27 PM |
She had a thigh master but she couldn’t live forever
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 15, 2023 7:27 PM |
Trumper? No sympathy.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 15, 2023 7:28 PM |
Now whose door will I throw bags of shit at?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 15, 2023 7:28 PM |
OP: R. Couri Hay, glad to finally be rid of her
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 15, 2023 7:29 PM |
Joyce is now the only main character from Three's Company, who is still alive.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 15, 2023 7:29 PM |
MAGA, Suzanne!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 15, 2023 7:30 PM |
So that makes Alan Hamel available.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 15, 2023 7:30 PM |
I guess God “came and knocked on her door”…
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 15, 2023 7:31 PM |
Her publicist R. Couri Hay is a major MAGA douche as well. Carol Burnett won her Enquirer lawsuit against him.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 15, 2023 7:31 PM |
“And now my career is over,”said Suzanne.
Honey, sit down, let me explain something to you ….
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 15, 2023 7:33 PM |
[QUOTE] Joyce is now the only main character from Three's Company, who is still alive.
Wrong. Larry is still alive.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 15, 2023 7:33 PM |
R10, Excuse me?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 15, 2023 7:34 PM |
Yes, Richard Kline. Also Priscilla Barnes is still alive (link to rent her AirBNB below) and Jenilee. All three were in the title sequence of the show.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 15, 2023 7:36 PM |
Tomorrow would have been her 77th birthday.
I guess she made other plans.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 15, 2023 7:36 PM |
Snake Oil Saleswoman Succumbs
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 15, 2023 7:37 PM |
With that face - how could they tell?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 15, 2023 7:37 PM |
This is unexpected to me. I had no idea she was battling cancer.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 15, 2023 7:37 PM |
Was it the jab?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 15, 2023 7:37 PM |
Awww, whack job but I still kind of liked her
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 15, 2023 7:38 PM |
Right after Piper Laurie.
Too soon! Too soon!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 15, 2023 7:38 PM |
No she was a good MAGA, Dee. I think it was hunter’s laptop that got her!!!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 15, 2023 7:39 PM |
R25 Her weirdo daughter-in-law keeps shilling all Suzanne's stuff like a leech.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 15, 2023 7:39 PM |
There will be a post memorial service collation held at the Regal Beagle.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 15, 2023 7:39 PM |
Was she in Serial Mom?
I loved Serial Mom!
I heard about this from Liza Minnelli Outlives
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 15, 2023 7:40 PM |
Come and knock on our door....
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 15, 2023 7:40 PM |
This hasn't made the mainstream news yet.
Are you sure, op?
Or maybe she isn't a big enough star to warrant "Breaking News?"
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 15, 2023 7:41 PM |
R23, Seriously? She’s written books about it and promoted them on every talk show in America.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 15, 2023 7:41 PM |
She did irreparable damage to Scandinavian / Norwegian women of the Midwest because of those fucking bangs.
She was a rerun and infomercial mainstay throughout the 90s.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 15, 2023 7:44 PM |
It’s creepy she uploaded to YouTube just yesterday.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 15, 2023 7:45 PM |
I had no idea about the cancer shit either, R35. I work for a living, I don’t have time for fucking talk shows. Whatever spare time I have is devoted to Datalounge, laundry, movies, cooking and porn (in that order).
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 15, 2023 7:46 PM |
Aw, RIP
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 15, 2023 7:46 PM |
SUZANNE SOMERS THIS IS MY BAD SIDE!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 15, 2023 7:47 PM |
r39 " Whatever spare time I have is devoted to Datalounge"
And her cancer has been mentioned about 100 times on here
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 15, 2023 7:47 PM |
Come and knock on my door....
I can't answer it because I just fucking DIED.
Come and dance on my floor....
I can't dance with you because I just fucking DIED.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 15, 2023 7:47 PM |
Admit it, R39, porn is #1 on your list.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 15, 2023 7:49 PM |
I can hardly wait to see her again.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 15, 2023 7:51 PM |
It's MY TIME TO SHINE!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 15, 2023 7:51 PM |
Two down, one to go.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 15, 2023 7:53 PM |
Has Richard Simmons commented?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 15, 2023 7:57 PM |
Again, there’s something going on this week with so many old actors passing away.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 15, 2023 7:58 PM |
2023 strikes again.
Rest in Peace.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 15, 2023 7:59 PM |
How's Joyce reacting?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 15, 2023 8:00 PM |
Well, another DL icawn has departid for Heaven!
God blesse Suzan!
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 15, 2023 8:05 PM |
Heaven needed another Muppet.
Can I have her stuff?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 15, 2023 8:06 PM |
This bitch was something. Thought she was the star of the show, then left, then never had success again, and then went a little crazy, and a little MAGA!
Who did this bitch think she was....me?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 15, 2023 8:06 PM |
Joyce is busy texting her agent to get spots on national tv so that she can talk about her dear departed friend.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 15, 2023 8:06 PM |
If only she had been able to take her ivermectin and supplement regimen in peace, she would still be alive. But, no! Daily harassment from BIG PHARMA got to her! I seen it memes in Facebook and they talked about her being stalked in TikTok. Pharma shills kill again!
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 15, 2023 8:07 PM |
First Loretta Lynn drops dead & then Naomi Judd offs herself & now this.
Will anyone famous be alive to vote for me in 2024?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 15, 2023 8:08 PM |
Will there be tears shed on “The View” tomorrow?

Will David Muir offer a heartfelt tribute from Israel?
by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 15, 2023 8:10 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 15, 2023 8:10 PM |
Goodbye MAGA Queen!!!
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 15, 2023 8:11 PM |
Hopping to the Farrah curse!
Someone more famous needs to die by the end of the day,
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 15, 2023 8:13 PM |
Don't look at me R68.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | October 15, 2023 8:15 PM |
One less Trumper? Fine by me.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | October 15, 2023 8:15 PM |
Suzanne is trapped in purgatory and has to spend eternity by herself and talking to her loved ones on the phone.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | October 15, 2023 8:16 PM |
Join her, Roseanne!
by Anonymous | reply 73 | October 15, 2023 8:18 PM |
Can I steal her stuff?
by Anonymous | reply 74 | October 15, 2023 8:18 PM |
5 finger discount.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 15, 2023 8:18 PM |

She'll skip leg day tomorrow.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 15, 2023 8:20 PM |
R73. Oooohh. Roseanne yeah.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | October 15, 2023 8:21 PM |
John Ritter is not accepting her calls.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | October 15, 2023 8:22 PM |
If you own a thigh master, maybe it’ll be worth something now.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | October 15, 2023 8:22 PM |
RIP, Chrissy.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | October 15, 2023 8:23 PM |
I recall ‘She’s the Sheriff’ far more readily than ‘Step by Step’. I do hope that she’ll be given the send off she has earned and can bookend life as “the blond in the gold hearse”.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | October 15, 2023 8:24 PM |
Didn’t Hay have a celebrity gossip column in one of the tabloids at one point?
by Anonymous | reply 85 | October 15, 2023 8:24 PM |
You can't sit with us!
by Anonymous | reply 86 | October 15, 2023 8:25 PM |
I don't know her.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | October 15, 2023 8:28 PM |
Wasnt she big on hormones? Your older body stops producing them for a reason.
Well, RIP Susie
by Anonymous | reply 88 | October 15, 2023 8:28 PM |
I guess her herbal + lipo treatments didn't work this time.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | October 15, 2023 8:29 PM |
Will her cute son inherit her multi-million dollar fortune?
Or will he receive nothing, "for reasons that are well known to him?"
by Anonymous | reply 90 | October 15, 2023 8:31 PM |
Susan Dey did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | October 15, 2023 8:31 PM |
R76 No but guess what her casket will be shaped like?
by Anonymous | reply 92 | October 15, 2023 8:32 PM |
To be honest I never cared for her.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | October 15, 2023 8:32 PM |
Dead as a mackerel. They call it aggressive cancer but to took 23 years to kill her.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | October 15, 2023 8:32 PM |
[quote] Will her cute son inherit her multi-million dollar fortune?
I'm betting Suzanne's husband inherits 100% of her estate. He always seemed like he was using her for money. JMO.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | October 15, 2023 8:32 PM |
I guess investing my life savings in a Broadway revival of "The Blonde in the Thunderbird" wasn't a wise move.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | October 15, 2023 8:33 PM |
Come on, guys, she was almost a human being.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | October 15, 2023 8:34 PM |
R83 They should just repeat the TC episode where Jack & Janet think Chrissy is going to die in the hospital...
...but doesn't.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | October 15, 2023 8:35 PM |
That "reunion" was quite awkward.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | October 15, 2023 8:36 PM |
That's what she gets for listening to Dr. Prescott.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | October 15, 2023 8:37 PM |
I guess all those hocus-pocus vegetable smoothies can't cure cancer, after all.
Dumbass.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | October 15, 2023 8:38 PM |
Shuzshanne Shomers.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | October 15, 2023 8:39 PM |
This interview was quite interesting - I think her version leaves out a lot of detail...
by Anonymous | reply 103 | October 15, 2023 8:39 PM |
At 3pm PST the American Infomercial Shoppers will squeeze their Thighmasters in unison - they won’t use the intro as its tempo is too fast.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | October 15, 2023 8:39 PM |
I bet Jeffrey wasn't much help to her either -
by Anonymous | reply 105 | October 15, 2023 8:39 PM |

Shoozshanne Shummers, resht in peashe.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | October 15, 2023 8:41 PM |
They probably offered her if she acted like this =
by Anonymous | reply 108 | October 15, 2023 8:41 PM |
Honestly I lost respect for her way before MAGA and her weird husband. Shoplifting while you are a high paid movie star is just not cool when you have that kind of money. It just says greedy little bitch. Which is why she was fired originally from Three's Company.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | October 15, 2023 8:43 PM |
I thought this was a cute video with the big 3 =
by Anonymous | reply 110 | October 15, 2023 8:44 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 113 | October 15, 2023 8:54 PM |
Only Janet and Larry are with us now.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | October 15, 2023 8:56 PM |
Wasn't she broke?
by Anonymous | reply 115 | October 15, 2023 8:56 PM |
We'll all slow things down today in honor of Chrissy's death...
by Anonymous | reply 116 | October 15, 2023 9:03 PM |
Will she be buried by any of her Three's Company cast members?
by Anonymous | reply 117 | October 15, 2023 9:04 PM |
R115. Her tacky Palms Springs house was constantly up for sale.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | October 15, 2023 9:05 PM |
R117 I don't think they're THAT hard up for work to be in charge of burying former coworkers.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | October 15, 2023 9:08 PM |
She’ll make it better the second time around.

But for real - has Joyce DeWitt commented?
by Anonymous | reply 123 | October 15, 2023 9:30 PM |
It's shocking how plain and nondescript she was before Threes Company
by Anonymous | reply 125 | October 15, 2023 9:40 PM |
r125 She was quite cute in that commercial
by Anonymous | reply 126 | October 15, 2023 9:42 PM |
She showed her titties in a Dirty Harry movie.
Who knew they'd be the death of her?
I'm assuming the role came after she was busted for "hanging paper."
by Anonymous | reply 127 | October 15, 2023 9:45 PM |
I'm crying into my 3 Way Poncho as I type.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | October 15, 2023 9:49 PM |
Her Broadway show was bizarre, laughable, and embarrassing beyond description. And she was a Trump supporter.

She's checking with Susan Dey for how to handle this situation.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | October 15, 2023 9:56 PM |
She was one of the first lifestyle celebrities. She walked so the Kardashians could run.

[quote]...“All her doctors said if she didn’t lead a chemical-free, organic life supported by bioidentical hormones, she wouldn’t be with us.”
Uhm, all that crap she pumped into her body for decades was ALL CHEMICALS! Unregulated, non-scientific crap. Lord knows what's in all that shit. Plus, "organic" produce means almost nothing, they can still use pesticides like horseshit and petroleum, and any other one your lobbyist can get approved. I hate people spreading misinformation.
My doctor told me, "Don't smoke, and don't get cancer. That's all it is."
Liza turned 77 last March, and she wasn't exactly living without CHEMICALS! GO, LIZA!
by Anonymous | reply 136 | October 15, 2023 9:58 PM |
I imagine Joyce and Richard will be commenting before long. Are they even on social media? Priscilla and Jenilee maybe also, even though they never worked with Suzanne. I remember watching TC when I was a teen. New episodes and repeats. I felt the show was so hip and in the know about adult things, even though today it’s tame compared to what’s on. SS wasn’t a great talent, and I hated she was MAGA, but she could be funny as hell, and the chemistry between the three was amazing. Rest in peace Suzanne.

According to an Old Hollywood Reader Blind Item put up by Entertainment Lawyer, Keenan Wynn, also helped "launch" her career.

I'm as anti-Trump as you can be, but I don't understand being indifferent or happy someone died because they were sorely misguided.
I seem to recall her saying at some point words to the effect that she'd reversed the aging process, and would live, if not forever, a very long time. I think Joe Rogan thinks that too.
She was a kook, but she was funny on Three's Company. Rest in Peace, Christmas Snow.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | October 15, 2023 10:16 PM |

People can slam for her idiotic, selfish, ignorant support of Trump without being "happy" that she died.

Fran Drescher, Kathy Griffin, Barry Manilow, K. Jenner, etc., weigh in.
From Kathy:
[quote] “I am shocked and saddened,” wrote comedian and actor Kathy Griffin on Threads. “Suzanne was a real pal and ‘connector.’ She loved connecting people with one another. Also a real pioneer regarding equal pay for actresses in situations where the man got substantially more salary than the woman.”
From Barry:
[quote] “Suzanne and I were friends for decades. She was the sister I never had and my close confidant forever,” singer-songwriter Barry Manilow wrote on Instagram. “We shared triumphs and heartaches. Her fame in so many fields overshadowed her real talent as one of our greatest comedic actors, a loving mother, an amazing homemaker, and one of the world’s best cooks. I will miss her dearly and hope that she is now out of pain and at peace.”

She was no better than Mike Lindell, selling a bunch of overpriced garbage-y crap made in South Asian sweatshops. That said, she provided a lot of comedy fodder here at DL for years, so RIP you cuckoo MAGA.

[quote]She seemed fine in the video. How exactly did she die? Must have been a heart attack.
Cancer and its treatment can get you fast, especially at that age. She was one day from 77.
She could have thrown a clot and had a pulmonary embolism in her sleep. Or, yes, a heart attack or her heart just stopped.
She essentially reached her life expectancy, which for a woman born in 1946 is 78.4 years. Considering she had breast cancer for 23 years, that's quite a feat.
by Anonymous | reply 182 | October 16, 2023 2:44 AM |
So her very first real break Three's Company she was paid 30,000 per episode. The star John Rutter was making 150,000. She demanded the same and refused to show up unless she got what she wanted. They subsequently fired her for not showing up for two episodes. About 2 weeks. She was not the star, he was.
In today's money that would be: $30,000 in 1977 = $152,988 in 2023 Per week.

R25 I think the video you posted was not made recently. Here is a video on her website from June 30. The family has gathered to celebrate Alan Hamel's birthday. Suzanne appears about 3 minutes into the video. She is wearing a baseball hat over what appears to be wig. She looks gaunt and is not very lively. Suzanne says very little.
Based on that video, I suspect Suzanne and her family have known for months that she was in bad shape and likely would not live. The woman in the video I've posted is nothing likely the bubbly, spry person who appears in your video.

#200, someone upthread said her daughter-in-law has been reposting older videos. I don't think she has been filming new ones for some time.
She is the classic case of 'when a door closes a window opens'. If she had stayed on TC til she was 40 she may have just faded into obscurity like so many sitcom stars. But the embarrassment and rejection spurred her on to achieve other things. She conquered TV again; did movies, Vegas, cruises and Broadway; wrote books; made a zillion dollars off her products...
Hers is an amazing success story.

It's been explained that the TC contracts were John Ritter (the star & central focus) made the most. The 2 actress roommates made half of his salary (but the same amount level) & the Ropers made half of the female roommates (but the same amount level).
Ropers = $20,000 each episode.
Girl roommates = $40,000 each episode.
Jack = $80,000 each episode.
The contracts had clauses in them that John would be paid double what anyone else made in the cast. Somers wanted $200,000 each episode (so they'd have to pay Joyce the exact same amount) & John would end up with $400,000 an episode. The Ropers would've been entitled to $100,000 each as a result. ABC & TPTB at TC spun the Ropers off into their own show to save money (& they had a good excuse as the UK Ropers were given their own show prior to the US show).
They brought in Mr. Furley (sex starved to be a different take on Mr. Roper & Lana as the hard to get person for a different take on Mrs. Roper. The Lana actress has said in interviews that her brief opening credits stay was due to both Somers & DeWitt pushing her out behind the scenes. It then became obvious to fans that Somers thought she could get more $ with Lana gone but DeWitt's reason is still a mystery other than the $ angle. They hired Don Knotts who was desperate to get back on tv after his film career went down the tubes. Larry was give more lines & scripts when Lana & later Somers had departed. He has never said that TPTB & ABC bumped up his pay before he joined the opening credits later on.
The bottom line is Somers thought she could get everyone in the cast bigger paychecks with her chain reaction demands but the rest of the cast were nervous that the show would be cancelled & told her not to rock the boat. Somers & hubby didn't listen & pulled their come-in-late or not-show-up-at-all stunts plus badmouthing others on shows like Donahue. They were never going to give her the salary demands because it'd set off CBS & NBC paying their top stars more money as well.
The Archie Bunker actor had it put in his contract that he'd be the top paid actor on tv so he'd have to be paid more as well. I think Gary Coleman was NBC's top star at the time of Somers demands. ABC was afraid CBS/NBC would blacklist them when they needed soap actors (who left for other networks) to return to their daytime shows for big rating events like weddings/ funerals. Suzanne & hubby were never going to be allowed to wreck so much damage across all of tv (at the time) no matter how popular she was in the press.
by Anonymous | reply 218 | October 16, 2023 6:40 AM |
^ So the 5 member cast cost $200,000 per episode which is wanted she wanted for herself each episode.
If ABC gave into her demands the cast cost per episode would've went up five times to $1,000,000 per episode without adding up guest stars, writers & the remaining wardrobe & crew paychecks.
22 episodes would've been well over $33 million a season when you added up everything including the print ads & commercials for publicity.

Hamel was responsible for her astronomical salary demands on TC. She fired her manager Jay Bernstein, who also represented Farrah, and went with her husband. NEVER a good idea to have a spouse or relative represent you. Without Hamel, she probably would’ve given in and stayed for the modest raise they offered her. R234 if you can track down the TC E True Hollywood Story online somewhere it’s really good and gives you the lowdown. It all started when Suzanne started not showing up or calling in for episode rehearsals and tapings in late 1980. And she was filming a movie which overlapped with the start of the season. Plus she was trying to do this negotiation right at the beginning of a season, not while they were on hiatus, which is totally unprofessional and affects EVERYONE involved with the show. Suzanne claims she was fighting not only for herself, but Joyce and John ie she gets a raise they get a raise. Joyce claims she lied, and didn’t care about her and John, only herself. Plus it wasn’t discussed in the E True Hollywood Story, but I think everyone, especially John and Joyce, wondered how it would affect the stability of the show with Suzanne pulling these antics. You probably already know they relegated Suzanne to a brief tag at the end of some of the episodes which finished her contract in 1981. She found out very few are indispensable to a show, like Farrah did when she left CA. Both shows carried on and were still hits with replacements.

by Anonymous | reply 259 | October 16, 2023 8:46 PM |
R259 I’m aware. I only meant in terms of Farrah’s ego. As in I’m a huge part of CA (and she was probably surprised as hell when people were just as happy with Ladd). She was bigger than Suzanne, and then left a hit show. Lee Majors didn’t want her doing the show, but she wanted a movie career too. Ironically Suzanne discussed this in the ETHS. I want to be as big or even bigger than Farrah. And they shared the same manager for a time.

Plus R257 She went to the press & blamed the cast for not supporting her more which ticked them off behind the scenes. I'd have to see if her Donahue appearance is still on YT but I watched it (about a decade ago) & she was asked how her cast mates felt about her actions by him.
Somers wanted them to respect her wishes but she didn't respect theirs to continue the show with their contracts that they signed.
It's never been said publicly but I'd guess Ritter would 've had to sign off on ripping up the old contracts (or some of the clauses in them to make her happy) & he probably liked being the top dog on the show. John probably thought she'd take any future big checks away from him & put them in hers.
It's telling that she wasn't asked back for the TC final in any capacity (no brief scene for Janet's wedded bliss & phone tag LOL). Ritter & Somers didn't speak for ages & I'd guess it was over the $ more than her blaming him for not defending her positions.

[quote]R234 In retrospect, what did Joyce really have to be so pissed about? Somers was fighting for her to get a raise just as much as herself.

I don't think it was unreasonable for her to want a bigger paycheck. Like her or not, she was a huge reason people were tuning in every week. The network and producers were making a fortune off the show so why shouldn't she be compensated accordingly? Her mistake was letting her husband be her manager and do the negotiating.

Suzanne was the breakout star from 3C. She was like Farrah or Jimmy Walker. Charlie's Angels continued for several seasons, post-Farrah. 3C continued for several season, post SS.
I think she could have negotiated more pay. Just not as much as she and her husband were asking for. Hamel reminds me of Joan Rivers' husband, Edgar. People just got turned off, trying to negotiate with a spouse. It's UNPROFESSIONAL.
IIRC, SS was also comparing her salary to Alan Alda on MASH.
Yes, I do think sexism played a role in the pay disparity.
In the end, she made more money on her books, inventions (Thigh Master), etc., than she would have if she had stuck to acting.

R297 I think they all deserved more money, down to Norman and Audra, but the producers and ABC were never going to pay her the amount she wanted. Not only did she want an astronomical sum for not being the star of the show, the Hamels wanted a piece of ownership of the show. There in fact was no negotiation, or a meeting in the middle so to speak. Alan and Suzanne were fixated on the 150,000 per episode salary. This, plus the tactics they used with Suzanne not showing up to the set, didn’t exactly endear ABC and the producers to their side of things. Years later Alan and Suzanne stated they would’ve done it differently. Joyce has a right to be bitter. The entire show was affected by these antics. When you’re negotiating for more money, you do it on hiatus, where it’s not affecting cast and crew. I honestly don’t know what was going through Suzanne’s mind trying to do this early in the season.

And didn't she get an HSN host fired or removed from her shows for not fawning enough over her or her products?

In memoriam: The classic "I fingered Suzanne Somers in the Bellagio Fountain" post:
[quote]I fingered Suzanne Somers in the waterfall of the Bellagio. Her husband liked my dress and dared me to go in. It was a pretty orange silk and I had only a thong underneath. I held up my heels and went in and Suzanne came laughing right in after. With no more prompting she started kissing me, her tongue was all over my lips and neck and a bit forcefully in my mouth. I was excited by her hunger and even more by her husband and the security men watching. Alan had his phone out and I held out my hand to say no. By then I was fingering up inside her wrap dress. (we had met earlier that evening after her show - we played baccarat) Suzanne was free with me, she is quite wrinkled but had beautiful breasts for a 75 year old? Not sure - this was 4 years ago. She was wet and warm, her nipples were hard, I was wet from the fountain with warmer juice starting to flow. Anyway it lead back to their room - I got a bit freaked out though they were a lot of fun and we only drank champagne. Alan has a very large cock and a tiny tan line. Soft he must be 8 inches. He only penetrated his wife that night, but I could have had more. So, later Alan flew me to Palm Springs and I guess they had a more prepared plan. We had a beautiful 3 days and nights. Alan did join in but Suzanne and I spent a lot of time alone together. She is a brilliant woman. Very pretty without makeup and so sensual. She sang a song with my name in it to me. Her body is not wonderful for 55 but she was so tanned, smooth and responsive. They did ask me to sign a non disclosure, but they was not forceful. I can't say more. Suzanne is a beautiful woman and loves the gays. A lot of them work for her. There is more to the story, but I must leave you in suspense.

One of you theatre queens help me out with this, but in the late 1980s, I swear our Broadway touring house had ads for a production of Annie Get Your Gun starring Suzanne in the newspaper as part of their season. The production never happened, but it at least got as far as being advertised. It would have been around the time Debbie Reynolds was touring Molly Brown, Chita was touring Can-Can, John Davidson was touring Oklahoma, and Goulet was touring South Pacific for the first time.
This is not the Bernadette version of the late 1990s, this was well before that.

The character of Janet really changed in the later part of the series. In the earlier episodes she's very grounded and down to earth. Sensible.

I wouldn’t say “really pretty.” I remember always being kind of disoriented and repulsed by her as a child. Not that there aren’t buffoonish, unconventional looking people who are talented and charming - but they’re not usually sold as sex symbols.
Her face was just so *big*… with a big, ungraceful nose, etc. There are certainly a couple of pics early on where she looks good, though.

What many of you don't seem to understand is that straight men don't give a rat's ass about "taste" or "ungraceful" facial features. The bottom line is, Suzanne was pulling in as many-- or more-- viewers as John was, and she and other TV actresses were getting royally screwed. No, she didn't "win", but she (along with Penny and Cindy) got the conversation started, and things were never the same after that.
They deserved to be paid as much as the men, period.

R419, that's such bullshit. John was the star. Period. Suzanne always overstated her own importance and Q scores. John always had higher Q scores than she did. She was really expecting to be paid like Carroll O'Connor or Alan Alda? Farrah Fawcett was only paid 5K an episode, half of what Kate Jackson got. That 30K an episode on TC looks pretty good next to that.

I don’t think anyone’s argued otherwise.
[quote]she and other TV actresses were getting royally screwed. They deserved to be paid as much as the men, period.
Equal pay for equal work and star power. I think Ritter was a limited, goofy ham but when the show started he was an established nepo baby and had much more acting experience than either Somers or DeWitt. His role was more central than the two girls’. You can imagine an episode without either of them, but an episode would be much more off kilter without him. The show went into more detail about his dates, his jobs, his friend Larry (did Janet or Chrissy have any friends?)
It’s really such a stupid show to even be discussing. Uggh. And yes, actresses were/are always paid (and treated) worse in Hollywood than actors… but that doesn’t mean Somers made the same contribution to the show as its male lead.
by Anonymous | reply 427 | October 21, 2023 6:26 AM |
You never know who is going to be the breakout star or the dud. She could've been a dud, but would she like it if they lowered her pay because of that? No. Ritter was the more established star when the show was cast.
Yes, I think she contributed greatly to the popularity of the show, but she and her husband just went scorched earth in the negotiations.

"Established star" is going a bit overboard. His most visible credit before "Three's Company" was a recurring role as a young preacher on "The Waltons."
by Anonymous | reply 434 | October 21, 2023 9:22 AM |
John was not an established star. Almost all of us were there, and remember that viewers didn't even know the guy's name before THREE'S COMPANY. He got more money than Suzanne and Joyce because that was simply how things were done back then; the male got more money. Whether Suzanne was being "selfish" or not is irrelevant. She and her equally obnoxious husband changed the game. But as I said in a previous post, this was at the same time as Penny and Cindy were negotiating, and their role in this was very important, too. It's not like I'm arguing that Suzanne single-handedly liberated the female sex from thousand of years of oppression.
by Anonymous | reply 435 | October 21, 2023 4:41 PM |
R430 More experience yes but Ritter was not an 'established star' before Three's Company. He had a lot of guest appearances on V series and an uncredited bit in 1975a The Prisoner of Second Avenue. Arguably Somers small part as the girl in the white T-bird garnered more attention that Ritter ever did.

R436, that's so ridiculous. I doubt anyone even knew who the girl in the white T-Bird was when she appeared on TC.
by Anonymous | reply 437 | October 21, 2023 5:30 PM |
The big problem with the debacle of her wanting a raise for 3’s Company is that she fired her VERY BIG agent Jay B. and had her husband go in to negotiate for her. He was an IDIOT and had NO IDEA how to negotiate. But they were both VERY GREEDY and so she did not want to pay her big agent anymore - wanted to keep the money in the family with her husband who no longer had a career. Even in the interviews with him after her death he was pushing their products saying her last words were about keeping their company going and people buying their crap. When he went in to negotiate a raise for her he said what they wanted and then walked out when they said it was too much - next, she pretended to be sick and did not show up for the first day of the new season. So they basically fired her for sending in her nitwit husband instead of a real agent who knew how to play the game. This happened over and over with them. She was on every shopping channel in existence but at some point they’d all stop working with her. She went from place to place her whole career when she and hubby were a pain in the ass. But, she made TONS of money, so it did work out for them financially in a big way.

by Anonymous | reply 443 | October 21, 2023 6:22 PM |
Story is that Carson saw her in the commissary and invited her to be on the show without even knowing she was in American Graffiti.
Getting back to her contract, losing Jay Bernstein was the biggest failure because he understood the value of her being on TV. All the contracts were renegotiated in the middle of the season because the producers tore up their originals and gave them big increases after they saw the ratings. Joyce also had the same problem and there's an episode where she doesn't appear because she was not under contract. It was resolved by her management team.
The funniest thing about it was that when the call came out to cast Jack Tripper's new wife, Suzanne and Alan tried to get her an audition.

They acted like none of that even went down. I doubt either Donna nor Jethro even campaigned for her in any way or spoke of her character when Buddy slandered her in public. Donna said that she was a close friend of Buddy for over 30 years & that he was a "wonderful man".
Still it's been said that Nancy & Ebsen made up before she passed away so it's possible he couldn't make it to her bedside before she passed. He was about 83 himself when she passed away at age 69..

Donna just wanted Nancy to repent her sinful gay lifestyle and accept the Lord before it was too late.
