I'm getting ready for this auction. The subject matter is perfect for Andy.
I can only imagine getting a cocktail invitation to come over and see a friend’s new Warhol portrait of PIA ZADORA.
Caftan and earrings engagement for sure!

Pia must really be hard up for money, especially since the estimates are relatively low.

Hmm. I guess Andy didn't know a talentless tart when he saw one.

R2 Pia Zadora does not own that painting, hun.

R4 Warhol painted almost anyone who paid. Any celebrity willing to pay could certainly get one.

Who names their kid Pia Zadora?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 13, 2023 8:00 AM |
R7 Mr and Mrs. Zadora?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 13, 2023 12:06 PM |
R7 Her real name is much more wop-o-licious: PIA ALFREDA SCHIPANI.

R4 He didn't care about talent, only fame.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 13, 2023 12:18 PM |
Clearly, r10

Warhol may have cared about a lot of things, but the absurdity of fame always shone through for him in his art.

I think it was Warhol who said that in t he future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes, thus coining the phrase.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 13, 2023 12:50 PM |
Wow, Warhol said that? That's very clever! I'm surprised his witty remark isn't more attached to his legacy.

R5, then who owns it, hun?
Pia still does cabaret on the weekends in Vegas.

R15 you can read such info right on auction sites. Someone bought it from a London Gallery in 2002. Owner is private. Pia sold it, so Pia is not but buyer. Someone else.

R14 Warhol used that phrase in one of his Swedish exhibits in the late '60s.
Afterward, long after he was dead and the quote had become popular, two other people came forward to lay claim to the quote -- the director of the Swedish museum and one of Warhol's photographers.

My parents took the kids to see Sinatra. Pia was the opening act. Sang standards & jazzy things. I remember her voice was only ok. I think like a miss america - in tune but surface. I had only known her for The Lonely Lady & the garden hose scene.

I’ve wanted to kick her in the cuntbone ever since she demolished Nazimova’s notorious The Garden of Allah for her own McMansion.
